I remembered ios 12 being the last version where 3D Touch actually work like how 3D touch should be, form ios 13-later they mixed it out with “haptic” touch and literally cut down 3D Touch features on supported models!
At least iOS 13-18 kept 3D Touch functionality partially, but they removed Force Touch on WatchOS 7, forcing my Series 3 to switch to Haptic Touch as well.
The volume icon - remember those days we tried to screenshot but only hit the volume button and had to wait the animation ends so that we can retry screenshot? I hate those days.
Another feature that apple removed which I miss a lot is the Game Center app. Up until iOS 9, Game Center used to be a standalone application and it was really easy to send friend requests to other Game Center users. On iOS 10, Apple removed the Game Center app and instead, integrated Game Center to the settings app which also made sending friend requests much harder.
if you connect a controller and press the HOME/PS/Xbox button it pulls up game centre in a neat card-style interface designed for controllers. I only play games on my apple devices with controllers, so this works as an effective replacement for me.
What I really miss is the coverflow.. When you swipe through the albums, it physically feels like you’re scrolling through your library of the albums you’ve purchased from iTunes/Converted songs. I have an iPod Touch 3rd Generation and an iPhone 13 Mini but the music app in iPhone 13 Mini feels bland. Yes it has some useful features, but the coverflow made it cooler because it really feels like you can touch your music.
1:30 Apple does have their reasons for not doing this. iOS will automatically put unused apps to sleep, and those sleeping apps will use very little power. Opening an app from scratch however takes a comparatively large amount of power. So, in most scenarios, it's actually better to let an app stay asleep, since it sleeping is less power than it being freshly opened. That's why they won't let you close all apps, because in their mind, you shouldn't really need to close apps. However, compared to all sorts of other power sucking features like GPS, 5G, and Bluetooth, opening and closing apps won't be the biggest battery drain on your iPhone.
I feel like if this is the case, they could do a funny lil thing and just make you think the app was closed but actually keep it in ram sleeping until the ram is needed. Basically give the user the satisfaction of closing their apps but not actually doing so. Idk, might be a terrible idea. Maybe add a long press to force close in case you DO actually need the app to restart.
I've heard of this but if that's true what's the point of giving us the option to close apps by swiping up or even having the entire swipe ui to begin with?
I had a friend who works at Apple, he doesn't work in R&D or anything so take it at face value, but we had a conversation about 3D Touch and he said that the reason why Apple got rid of it was because as the screens got better, it was becoming more expensive to keep 3D Touch and it didn't offer enough benefit to keep it in and passing the cost over to the consumer. People weren't using it when they did have it, and people weren't buying iPhones for the 3D Touch features, so I can see why they removed it.
I don't know why I watch these. I am an Android user, who uses a Linux laptop. I have never daily driven an Apple product ever, barring some AirPods years ago that I hated. These videos are just really well made and slow-paced. Thank you, iClassic.
I don’t know if this also counts but you forgot to include iOS 8 which was the only software to have a recents contacts section when you double click to multitask and by clicking on a contact, you could either call or FaceTime a person pretty quick.
You can actually close multiple apps all at once you can slide the apps you want to close with 3 fingers at once and it will slide 3 apps you chose to close
Well if you had an iPhone 6, 6s, 7, or 8 model, it basically worked the same way it does now. Only the iPhone X had the different method of closing apps in iOS 11.
Still mad at Apple that they removed the 3D Touch functionality even from 3D Touch capable devices, also live wallpapers felt so premium with 3D Touch and how the wallpaper reacted to different pressures
I think you should do an entire series on this. Plenty people I know are annoyed with every major software update Apple pushes. They typically just take things away nobody asked them to just for the sake of it.

Imo the iPhone X and Xs have the best design of all time. Not updating to iOS 18 because I don't want to slow it down any more
Idk about you but the volume in the middle on the screen was insanely annoying to me, I don't miss that. That application switcher is weird, it is literally a transition of the ancient app switcher with the current WebOS cards. I still use 3D touch on my X as the X is stull my most modern iPhone, Lol, apps still support it since it is the touch and hold on new iPhones, still works the old way on the X. You can just hold your finger there but pressing down brings that context menu instantly. Also the flashlight on the X still appears to require pressure. You know what I miss most? The old music application, I like the one in iOS 6 way more than the current one. Coverflow alone is worth it, rn if you listen to music landscape the music app doesn't do anything. Although I feel like it is because I am probably one of the very few who have never used a music streaming service at all. I still curate my own MP3s offline and have them reside on the phone itself. I know I'm in the minority there, Heh.

It's interesting to see how apple figured out those small inconveniences that you would never really think of and made slight tweaks which make such a difference!
Another feature that Apple removed after iOS 9 is the ability to jailbreak without needing to rejailbreak your iPhone after each reboot. It would save a lot of time and headache trying to rejailbreak your phone after each restart.

Removing parallax effect for wallpaper but still working in UI elements on the home screen just not consistent. Why don’t they just remove all of them?
