Just bought a 2021 RAV4 Limited Hybrid in Houston after Thanksgiving and am LOVING IT! Got mine in blizzard pearl with the ash grey interior and the advanced tech and weather packages. Your videos helped me a ton with deciding between the RAV4, Venza, and Highlander. Thanks, Jeff!
I just purchased a Blizzard Pearl 2021 Rav4 XLE Premium this past week. I love it! Sharp looking and great size for me.. I wanted all the safety features for when I have grand children with me. Watching your videos helped guide me to the Rav and knowing what features I really wanted. Thank you!
The Rav4 Won Me. I would buy this Rav4 in a heartbeat. I absolutely love the Rav4. The exterior color and the interior color is perfect for me. The only thing that I would change is: Add LED Fog Lights to the Rav4.
The wife and I got a blizzard pearl 2021 Highlander XLE AWD in November and we both love it! There are so many cool features in the car that we are still discovering 2 months into owning it. The 2.5+ safety sense is one of our favorite features. We are looking forward to enjoying driving our new family car in the years to come! Btw, nice vid! Entertaining and informative!
I'm leaning more towards highlander though they both are really good choices, just love the size especially for a big family. I really needed this video, torn between the two
I just bought the Highlander Platinum; Ruby Flare and Harvest Beige. I love the gadgets and wanted the 5K towing. I have enjoyed watching all of your videos and have learned a lot. You reinforced my decision while I was waiting for my car to show up from the Port (doggone COVID). The car is everything you describe and I am eager to do a few road trips to see how the mileage goes and play more with cruise and lane keep. So far, I love it.
You can't really go wrong with either. I went back and forth and test drove both but ended up buying the 2021 Highlander in Midnight black because I have 3 kids and 2 dogs and like the room. I also like the 3.5 V6 over the 4 cyl for the torque. The Highlander just felt so much more powerful. It was worth the extra money.
Highlander is nice; but I'm not sure the extra cost is worth it unless you plan on hauling a lot of stuff or people. I just purchased the Hybrid Rav4. I traded a 2019 Forester for it. It feels smaller than the Forester; but has a number of advantages over the Forester. I think I'd still take the Rav over the Highlander.
If you are planning to buy a new car, negotiate, negotiate, negotiate the OTD price. Also remember the dealers have quotas they need to meet each month so buy late in the month, quarter or year.
The “wings” on the front logo of the Highlander kills the look for me. Looks like a Chrysler product. Having said that, I’d overall prefer the Highlander.
I own the Highlander 2021, Limited. It is the ultimate experience in comfort and driving. It is very quiet and fast responsive in handling. There is plenty of room for comfort and cargo.
If you have a big family and a big budget, the Highlander makes sense. Otherwise, I don't see paying that much for a car. We did looked at both and bought a 2021 RAV4 XLE.
Love the 2021 Highlander. I got my hybrid recently and very happy with it. Thank you very much for the video. It's confirmed that I made the right decision :)
If I could have a Highlander, but instead of a 3rd row, have a trunk-type storage area under the cargo floor or lower the floor on the cargo area, that would be ideal.
That would Be really nice. I say screw the 3rd row option! Give us more cabin, storage space. Like it’d be neat if the second row had recliners like the sienna does
Thank you Jeff for posting the video. Very helpful . We don't own either of these vehicles. Your videos are fun to watch. "I said sweep the leg do you hear me? " Yes Sensi
Hey! You swept my leg and kicked me in the face! Stop that! This is a GREAT video and exactly what I was looking for. I was excited about the Highlander while having an eye on the RAV4. Although the Highlander seems to exceed the RAV in all 'round coolness, I just don't need a third row of seats and that is deciding it for me. I don't want to have something as significant as that that I'm never going to use. The RAV seems to be a perfectly good car and that's the way I'm tipping, thanks to you! So stop kicking me in the face! Ow!
Great comparison for families who are on a budget and want to decide to go for 5 to 7 seater or not with other features with a good comparison. Thank you.
Thanks Ryan, these 2 cars are really nice but definitely Rav4 is great for a few people though the bigger brother comes in handy when more room or towing is needed... I thought I was out of line to think of having both of em, not alone in this after all 😅😅😅 thanks.
Just looking at these two vehicles @1:27, the Rav4 looks like an economy-box next to the Highlander. Look at the tire size diff, and the door size diff. It’s pretty obvious which one will give a better ride, and which one I'd want to be in if unfortunate to be involved in a major collision. The Rav4 looks like a fun drive for short trips around town, but I'd say if you’re a good sized adult who commutes at least 1/2 daily to work over highways constantly under construction, a few extra bucks for gas is worth it.
I like how sporty the RAV4 is, wish it had better rims tbh and more seats. I can make do without the 3rd row, but I want something that has plenty of room for trips, especially camping and to lug my large dog around. I’m still leaning more towards the highlander hybrid. Really informational video, thanks! 🙏🏻
Thank you so so so sooooooooooooooo much! The headroom comparison really helped me since I have a large dog, and I was going to go with the larger car for that reason. I think I am going to go with Rav4!
I love both vehicles a lot. I would love to have a highlander but I think the 2020 Rav4 XSE that I have now is much better for me. Yeah the highlanders are really nice and love the new re design on them. Price wise the highlander is way to expensive for me and if I got one I would want a higher up model with more stuff on it but then the price really goes up. Also with the highlander it does not get as good gas mileage and would want a hybrid if I got one. The extra power it has I don't really need and I don't tow stuff. Having that third row bench seat is nice but I don't have kids so no real need for that extra seating. It would be a lot of extra money I would be spending on stuff I don't need which I all ready get in my Rav4. If money was not a issue I would probably go up to a highlander but for now the price of a Rav4 is much more in my price range even though they seem to be going up more in price. For the size, power, and gas mileage I get in my XSE hybrid Rav4 it is perfect for me. The 219hp that I get is more than enough power for me and I get plenty of cargo space that I need. I don't have kids or haul a lot of stuff so don't really need a lot of extra space. I do wish it had just a little bigger body size to it and that is one thing I like a little more so with the Venza. I do think they seems to be fairly similar vehicles in the way of gas mileage and some other stuff but just have that little bigger body to them. I feel like I get a little more of that sporty/edgy feel to a rav4 and more luxury feel to a highlander. I feel the Rav4 is gear towards any kind of person and the highlander for me a certain type of person.
I’ve had both. The rav is actually a nice driver, cheaper. Highlander feels like a minivan in a way. And gas mileage isn’t what it’s projected. Both are nice vehicles though. If you plan on taking lots of vacation trips or traveling, Highlander. If just back and forth to work, soccer practice. Rav4 will do fine
Toyota should give buyers the option of purchasing a Highlander Platinum with a bench. The existing Highlander Platinum is simply an expensive 4 seater!!
Hi Jeff! Can you tell me the measurements of the RAV4 from the ground to the cargo area opening when I have to lift something into the hatch/cargo area?
10:01 - Looks like a comparison between a hatchback (or specifically a fastback) and a station wagon/estate car. Being a station wagon kid (VW Quantum), I'm predisposed towards the Highlander, all else equal.
We went to look at a rav4 today and i have to say I was rather disappointed. Our stroller couldn't fit in the back of this nearly 40cuft cargo space but it fits in our 06 suzuki grand vitaras 24cuft cargo space. Why? Because we can stand it upright in our vitara where in the new rav4s they have very little vertical space in the back. I was ready to buy one but now we have to look at other options.
My dad’s friend got a Highlander and she LOVES it. I think its the similar to the one in the video. So seeing this I’m thinking on showing her this so she can see the difference since she also used to have a Rav4. Also how was your Christmas? And how has the Venza been treating ya?
I test drove both in hybrid versions and purchased Highlander hybrid because it is more comfortable. I am averaging 43 MPG mostly city driving for the first 5000 miles. Great SUV 👍
To me different AWD system on each trim of RAV4 & Highlander is a big deal. I have many friends who have no idea that different trims have very different AWD systems.
i was looking at the rav4! i love it, however i didn’t know if there was a way to modify the passenger height in the rav or if it could be customed? my family is pretty tall and the passenger seat is the only downside:(

Technically the rav 4 is not a true S UV because it does not have a 3rd row of seats. Also you could get a older 2019 Highlander and itll be about the same price as a new Rav4
So according to your definition Range Rover is not a SUV? A sport utility vehicle or SUV is a car classification that combines elements of road-going passenger cars with features from off-road vehicles, such as raised ground clearance and four-wheel drive.
I don’t know me personally I love the style and everything about the RAV4 over the Highlander if I was going to get a third row SUV it would have to be the Lexus RX the big version are the Acura MDX. But for the compact small SUV it’s the RAV4 all the way for me the XSE or limited trim I like but I also like the TRD off-road but the RAV4 is nowhere near capable of Offroad for what I want to do so I’m just gonna build a cheap SUV and make it fully capable for off-road in probably a jeep definitely not a forerunner because they are expensive that would be a dream
Time for your picks: would you rather have a RAV4 or Highlander? Do you own one and tell us about how it's going so far? Thanks everyone! Jeff
