Excellent video. Thanks. My original thought was to use my MIG welder to weld a bolt onto the top of the pin and use a slide hammer to remove it. I drilled a hole on the other side of the pin and am attempting to drive the pin out from the bottom. But, I should have seen your video first. I hope the small hole I drilled won't be an issue. Well, update! The little hole worked! I drove the pin out from the back hole I drilled into the hinge. I used a socket as above for the 2 other pins.
Great video. Had replaced hinge on 1966 Mustang project because I couldn't figure out how to get that pin out. The OER replacement was typical Chinese fit and quality. Luckily I had saved the old hinge. Rebuilt it to good as new. Chinese hinge is going in the scrap barrel. Thanks much!
I agree with getting a good Vice. I’ve been through a few. People ask why I have such a big Vice. I tell them, that I didn’t just buy a big vice, I ended up with one.
I had a friend I worked with at Borg-Warner automotive, and he had to buy only the best of everything in tools. He bought a Starrett Vice that cost him over $400!! More money then brains? lol However, we made a ton of money working 7 days a week and unlimited overtime in the 90's.
@@AutoRestoMod , all okay. It was fairly wallowed out from what looked like 300K miles, and the fix would not have met your standards. :( It's been great learning from your crew and other folks, so I can make a DIFFERENT set of mistakes. LOL
I've never had any luck with those bronze bushings lasting for any length of time. I've haven't seen any of those on OE hinges on cars I've owned. Usually, I just change out the hinge with a good used one or a new OE replacement. If you were going to repair it, you could weld the hole and re-drill it. It would be way stronger than the bronze. The doors, especially 2 door car doors, are just too heavy for the soft bronze to last. An old timer told me a long time ago the hinges get worn from unbalanced tires beating them besides normal use. I had a car that I just worked on that was the worst I ever owned. You would have thought it was a NYC taxicab.
I really appreciate your videos . I am rebuilding my doors on my falcon Ranchero 1964 are there anyone that sells door skins ? I am working on rebuilding the trail gate What a mess...... Im going to if I have to pull the skins off my exisiting doors and then do what I need to on the inside of the door and then put it back together. The undercoating gunk really sucks.
Hi, at the very beginning of the video it shows you taking off the three bolts that attaches the hinge to the body were is that access point, I have a 65 ranchero I need to do the same. Thank you and keep the videos coming
I've looked at it. And laughed at what it does to my southern sentences. Hopefully it has improved. I'll do that on the next video and let me know if it is usable.
@@AutoRestoMod thanks. If it doesn’t work for you that’s ok. I’ll hand the wife some earplugs or shut the office door and turn it way up. The problem is on my end. Too many years of guns and motorcycles without ear protection. If I’d only known.
Sorry if I missed it on the video. Did you take both hinges off and make the repair or keep one hinge on, repair the lower one, reinstall lower one, and then fix top one?
A CLAWHAMMER ????? Really, where is the brass hammer you were using on the other video? What Daniel L. said, you do good work Cuz ( sept for the clawhammer).
I dunno where my brass hammer is. I tried to find it and gave up, using the claw to get out some frustration. I'll probably find it with some toys in the back yard. LOL
Great channel! Finally great info on how to do a repair not a before and after video.
Glad it helped
I like the way you pulled the broken pin out. Nice one!

You are welcome!
Another tidbit of useful knowledge - thanks!

great video.....especially with the Starliner generation...57-61 cars with a metric ton of chrome on the doors
Love this channel. Videos are short sweet and right to the point.
Glad you like them!
Thank you, mine just snapped on the drivers side upper. Ordering parts now.
Ouch. Sorry to hear that.
Hi there. Good fortune
Hello 👋
Another great video Jeff !
I should have watched this 30 years ago, when I had to repair the door hinge on my Ranchero.
I got here as quick as I could.

Great video. Have a good vise, need a drill press!
i'm just about to rebuild mine.. thanks for the how to
I guess that’s the easiest way to reinstall that spring. They can be a real pain! Baby steps

Simply weld a nut on the broken shaft then pry it out with 2 pry bars. Easy peasy. I quit doing it the way you did about 20 years ago
OK!

Good stuff!
Great video as always! When are you guys dropping a T5 in the Falcon?
We're waiting on some tibits from RRS and we will be full court press on the hardtop.

Inside the car in the kick panels.
@@AutoRestoMod Thank you for showing work on the Ranchero, so little on the net, it all Mustang.
Looking good. Good drill press next
Love the channel! Is there a chance of getting the closed captioning turned on? Thanks

So a nice vice would be your advice?
As it turns out...yes.
Do you have video on door puller nut repair
No sir.
Sorry if I missed it on the video. Did you take both hinges off and make the repair or keep one hinge on, repair the lower one, reinstall lower one, and then fix top one?
Did you paint it after? And if so with what?
Yes. Generally a good self etching primer then follow up with the final color at paint time.
Uhm...is there an easy way to put the spring in with the hinge mounted on the car? Asking for a friend.
The procedure is the same. BUT if the pin is there you may need a pry bar for the catch arm.
I believe mac's auto sells a tool that compresses those little springs so you may install them.

not looking forward to having to do this :/
It's not so bad after the first 30 or 40...😆😆😆
