The GG1 was my Dad's all time favorite locomotive! The PRR was his favorite road name. He started me on a life long love affair with trains. At two years old, I remember his HO layout. Later on, when I was around 4 or 5 he would take me down to Otto Road in Glendale, NY to look for Alcos. Long story short, I'm retired from a 25 year career with CSX and Metro North RR. Now, at 64, I'm enjoying my mostly post war Lionel layout and collection. Thanks Dad, I miss you and our railroad adventures.
my favorite loco in real life and model. this was not in scale but beautiful. Back in my high school days I sat in an active one....this loco is so cool I have a Rapido in N scale
I’m jealous you got to sit in an operating one!! That had to be so cool. We got to see a couple at the museum in PA while on a trip. Very impressive engines! I’d love to do a small N scale coffee table like layout one day. Happy holidays!
Great motivational video I am fortunate to have my original 1949 green and a1975 red w/Congressional cars. Trying to fire up my layout again and shoot some video.
GG1's are awesome engines. The real ones did over 50 yrs. of service with PRR and then the NJC. I have post-war replica and a scale is MTH. I also have a scale congressional train to go with the scale model.
Just a note!! It made me smile, There's a Congressional set on eBay.....$599. plus $89. shipping!! Take care...SAFE and WELL, Happy Sunday! It's very cloudy and 50 in OHIO
@@CountryBunkersTrains Yep, I've definitely found that the front and rear trucks like to swim around above the track, even on my big oval layout. Still a great engine. Happy new year as well!
As an idea to include with your GG1's Lionel has a Pennsylvania Walking Brakeman Car available if your local hobby shop does not have it then check Amazon or Lionel Online Store.
Great and informative video, allow me to share my story. Not a postwar fan and will own no others, only after becoming mildly aware of these units I came across one in a store I frequent- a brand new Tuscan Red Commemorative Set completely unappreciated by the store’s regular clientele. I’ve not regretted it since!😄
I remember the first time I saw a GG1 in a Lionel catalog. I thought "what the heck is this ugly thing?" I was a little kid who grew up in California and we did not have anything like them out here. I have grown to appreciate them since. They are really quite unusual. I love your presentation, trains, and layout.
Thank Lance! I felt the same way about them when I first saw them as well. I had to get one though. It really grew on me after getting one. We went to the Strasbourg railroad museum last year. They have 2 of the real ones on the property. I was in awe looking them over! They are massive! Must have been one impressive sight seeing them back in the hay day running the rails!
Question.... on the top track is that a Up1995 SD60? I have the same one. I believe mines the cheaper Williams I got 10 years ago from train world. It’s a simple runner and very little maintenance. It has a horn two motor and a bell.
The one on top is a Lionel Legacy sd70ace from around 2011 or so. She’s a good looker, but not a great runner. Have had quite a few problems with it. Still need to send it out to the repair shop. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Williams stuff! Need to pick me up a Williams and K line engine to check out! Happy railroading!
Love the video. I’m sporting an original green with great stripes and 3 maroon Madison cars. I love the gg1. She’s a beast and very heavy. Like lance Boil said and I agree when I first looked to at them they did seem ugly but I also grew to like them. Very pretty train to display and to run. Love the red gg1 you have too!!!
@@CountryBunkersTrains have you thought about adding more wires from the track to the transformer? I have a century club GG-1 and I noticed that the more wires you connect from you track to the transformer, the better your GG-1 will run and you don’t have to use that much power on your transformer. My GG-1 runs slow to a crawl
@@railchief74 A few of the tracks I have run several track “feeder wires” to a terminal block powered by the transformer. They do run better for sure! These loops being a little smaller haven’t needed them though. These GG1 I can run slow, but I wouldn’t say crawl.
Older vid of yours popped up. Fun to see how the layouts have changes and progressed. I too love the GG-1. Original 2332 and cars with boxes. Paid dearly. You are doing very good with your layout and your videos. Rock on.

Beautiful.......Great paint
Thanks Tim!
Interesting and enjoyable video. Thanks. Picked up a K-Line version last Christmas, but due to a layout rebuild I haven't been able to run it yet.
Thanks Steven. Congrats on the K line engine! Hopefully you are able to get the trains back up and running soon! Happy New Year!

Amazing restorations!
Beautiful GG1s
Thanks!
To think I was in high school when these were new. Great memories. I ha an MTH GG1 in my stable. Thanks for the memories.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!

I love GG-1s. My personal favorite engine of all time.
I have an original.
@@tonyromano6220 I have my dads 2332 , it runs even smoother than those
Man, I just watch these videos to hear this guy laugh😂😂😂😂
The GG1 is one of the few engines that was powerful enough to pull freight and fast enough to pull passengers.
I love em Zach. I want to buy a post war GG1 sometime myself.
Thanks Jerome! They are a fun engine. Hope you are able to get one soon!

Another great show, Zack! I appreciate your philosophy about the trains too.
The engines are beautiful.
Thanks!
Oh, they're restorations...even so, they are awesome! Your collection is really extensive. Keep the videos coming, they're very informative.

I went and looked! PWC set? Looks nice!! It was nice yesterday here, but raining today! Gotta love it... Stay safe and well to you as well!
Yours stay on the track better than my dad's postwar GG1.
I did have to do some tweaking to the front and rear trucks to get em to stay on track correctly. Took a while! Happy new year!

Fantastic video! I have an all original Lionel Congressional set with the box and you bet I still run it! 🖒 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
Thanks Eric!! Super envious of your congressional set!!
@@CountryBunkersTrains You're welcome! I'll have to post a video of it running sometime.
I can say that I think post war lionel is cheaper, easier to maintain, and just as good if not better looking than a vast majority of newer items.
Fantastic Engines... Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.. 👍

Great to hear Dale! Hope you are enjoying your recent squires!
With way electronics can be on newer stuff, sometimes old postwar stuff is nice to go back to.
For sure! Always good to go back to the basics once in a while. Makes you appreciate the new stuff as well in ways.
Its a shame, people put these old trains on shelves, I rather run them.
