    Your videos are too short, lol. I love the way you chat with us! Friendly, professionally and to the point. We are in North Carolina, south of Raleigh, but less than 1 hr 45 min to our closest beaches. I took 2/ seasons, 3 months each of landscaping courses at wake tech years ago. They called it Landscaping 1 & 2. I did not take 3 or 4. I wasn’t interested in huge ponds or swimming pools and then the other class was about using huge stones and clearing away large trees and landscaping in desert areas to do on my own or with my then first husband. We don’t live in a desert. I love stones of all kinds and I have an eye for where to put them, unfortunately at this home, I don’t have any large size ones. Too expensive and heavy to move here. My hubby and I are in our very early 60’s. It’s costs a lot here to hire someone to bring us rocks that size! 😂 we just can’t do it. We add stones in other ways, smaller manageable stones. Anyway, I do my own landscaping designs. I don’t own a business or work for anyone in this business. It was always for a hobby of mine to try and stay fit and enjoy the fruits of my labor. I still enjoy it although I cannot dig large, deep holes or lift heavy objects anymore. That’s why I have a hubby! Haha WE are just about finished with our small garden, it’s a very rustic fenced area for our veggie and herb garden. Hope we get some things to eat and share! This is my first vegie garden, but I’ve grown herbs before in gardens and in pots.

    It’s important to also understand how much patience can save you. A 6’ arborvitae will give you some day one impact, but will cost you 5-6x what a 3G will. So if you’re willing to wait and nurture your landscape, you can save thousands. And your plants will be stronger for it.

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 роки тому +2

    I think one of the big problems people have with their projects is a lack of patience. Many of the montage pic homes took years to design and build, so for me... the key is recognizing how much you can afford, which things should really come first, and do the thing in a methodical, deliberate manner instead of trying to knock it all out in two weeks. Like I have before! lol

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 роки тому +1

      @Marty Culleton. So true. Many people want it NOW but aren't willing to pay for it. It cost a decent chunk of change to get established landscaping/plants. With a well thought out plan/design and patience ANYONE can have the images in this video. Thank you for commenting!!!

    The Hosta and sedum will both grow here in the PNW. The sedum may need to be covered or protected for part of the winter (too wet). The Leech Botanic Gardens in Portland used to grow high mountain/dwarf conifers and desert specimens by putting them in a raised bed that had a removable roof to prevent the constant winter rains from getting them. The maroon color frilly leaves on the near side of the Arborvitae were heuchera?? Or were they Coleus?

      @@BobbyKDesigns Yes, I appreciate your videos! They really help to get an understanding of colors and arrangements. Are you disliking the fact that there's a large number of plants, or how they have them arranged? I'm focusing more on sustainable design than conventional. Hi, from Toronto, Canada! One thing I find tedious to maintain is dark mulch installed around bright green or yellow hedges. It is a pain to keep the beds clean because the leaves are such a contrast. A brown mulch instead of the popular black is so much easier to maintain. Also , black mulch tends to stain light stone or concrete.

    Terrific! I have always wondered about landscaping - the cost to do like you described. It would be cool though if you then showed...what NOT to do and how money is wasted. (maybe you do on your channel)
    Question about the gravel path...very cost effective...but would the gravel get kicked off the path with general use?

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  3 роки тому +4

      I’ll definitely start doing some videos on what not to do. I do something similar called “Bad landscaping” and “things that drive me nuts”. Check those out. Got some good tips in there. The gravel is contained by metal edging along the sides. Can it move...yes... but it stays in the pathway. Thank you for the comment!👍🏼

But for this year, we are concentrating all our energy on the front and sides as they are visible from the street. Love your landscaping ideas and I am subscribing in hopes of getting some ideas from your videos. Much thanks and many Blessings

    Hi Bobby, I hope you're well? Watching from Bunclody, Ireland 🇮🇪 My problem is I see all these great ideas about how to design a landscape but what are the essential concepts that every yard should have? A reflection area, entertainment area, a green expanse for roaming? Thank you

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 роки тому +2

      @Colm Carton. I think this is a great question! My answer is...it depends on what's important TO YOU! Every yard is different for a reason...everyone likes different things and has different interest. What I would do is ask yourself, "What do you like?" and "What do you like to do?" With those 2 questions answered you will be able to answer the question of what should be in YOUR YARD. :). Take care and thank you for the comment! Keep watching my friend! :)

    I’m with you! I love the lighting and think it makes all the difference! I know how to do it, but my stupid contractor threw out my lighting that I brought from my contractor. I did have the electrical put in, and I think I can get a wire under a walkway (I think!). I love to DIY, but I’m puny. I’m single, 4’9”, and run out of energy easily because I was sick.
    I wish you’d come and tell me what to do with two aggregate patios I have in my backyard. I have fence posts left where I pulled down a fence surrounding a hot tub I gave away.
    Shade sail? Staining the posts? Yuck! Professionally landscaped with stacked slate in the borders, but overgrown in my opinion. I want it perfect, but I don’t have time nor money nor a man to help me. Long story, but I’m helping my grown son and ex out because they have mold, so my beaus won’t come over!
    Isn’t this the weirdest thing?

    I see you tend to lean towards a clean edge. I like that but I am currently using rocks and the weeds are incredibly hard. To keep under control. I may need to scrap the rocks. 🤔
    What’s your thoughts on landscaping weed material? I’m getting ready to put down some smaller pebbles around our house (all our mulch blew away) so want to know how to do it right.
    Thanks and love your advice!

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  Рік тому +1

      I think landscape fabric is good to hinder weed growth, and it makes it easy to pull the weeds out. I would say the rocks along the edge are eventually going to get grass and other things to creep in there and will become maintenance. I would go with a clean edge.

    I'm from just outside Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and our growing season is very short 3 - 4 months. I own 2 properties: a regular bungalow facing south, with a beautiful lawn. 2 - a lakefront cottage, also facing south. The second last photo in this video is especially interesting to me as I have round stones running beside the cottage; however, the path is under huge spruce trees that lift and twist the stones because of the roots. I'm thinking that I could replace them with a gravel-type path (lined of course with edging). I have a garden right in front of my home that, years ago, my husband built up with 2-tiered wood ties which are rotting and full of ants. I am hoping to use interlocking stones to replace them. Do these sound like difficult jobs,as my husband passed away, as did my son. Would these jobs be difficult to do with male help? Your videos give me so much inspiration....I just love watching! Thanks so much. Barb 😊👷‍♀️💪👍

      @David Cattin. That's a good one. It definitely should be taken into consideration that the wires should be buried a few inches. Otherwise they are going to show over time in the mulch. We need something easy to clean for the kitchen so what about metal? I have seen some nice white glass with ripples used for cabinets. But who is making something with copper, stainless, etc for modern looking cabinets? I love some of the glass tile backsplashes which apparently are not the thing anymore. Some of these include metal. I want something modern but is there anyone with original ideas out there? I can see why some kitchen designs are just saying hide the kitchen when it isn't in use.
