I see a lot of comments about artist getting “real jobs” and how art school is stupid. I find it funny that you never hear people refer to sports in the same way. Sports are effectively “useless” to society and the overwhelming majority of people who take part in sports never go on to play professionally. Yet we encourage every level of sports because we understand in order to reach the excellence of professional sports, there needs to be an entire infrastructure of high school, college and community athletics. It’s the same things with art. If you enjoy art at any level, music, movies, graphic design, that is a direct product of art schools and art infrastructure.

UArts student here. Upsetting to see all these comments with little to no empathy telling us to "get real jobs" when this situation is literally not about that. We lost our education out of the blue and the school has left us with so much uncertainty of where we're going to go and the fear of if we can still get an education and graduate like everyone else. The school's lack of communication with all of the students and staff has been so unprofessional and upsetting.
Considering graphic design, UX, and web development roles are projected to grow (even with Ai), we need creatives more than ever. People who think art majors are all weaving baskets don’t know anything about the field -Sincerely a successful designer and web developer

It isn’t just art schools that are closing. It’s a tough time for colleges, and one reason is they made it cost too much. Also, China is sending fewer and fewer students (who pay full tuition) since they now have world class universities of their own.
In my early 20's I had a co worker/room mate who attended UofA as a theatre major and a few other classical guitar major friends as well. They will be sad to hear this news.

Hello. I'm an illustration student who attended Uarts this past year. My degree is not worthless nor will it ever be. in my single year at this school alone I've learned so much about marketing, business, etc. every website you visit is built by artists. every billboard, every poster, every animation and animated movie, every logo. please think before you say such heartless things in the comments about an educational institution being closed so suddenly. this is heartbreaking news to me as a student among many others who worked very hard to get where we are today. art is everywhere, it is not useless, it is a part of life.

They are closed for good , Also M.I.T Columbia. Harvard,etc are in the same situation. Due to left wing indoctrination and supporting Hamas Terrorists. Due to this Students who protested are now on a Blacklist. Also 316 very large corporations have decided to Boycott all University Hirings . Our Companies are now Hiring directly from High Schools and Comprehensive Schools in the Uk and USA. Training them in house like an internship but paid . There were MANY signs that the school was gonna end up closing. The problem is they saw this coming, and chose to stuff their pockets and run rather then do their jobs

It’s clear to me that the school board must’ve gotten into some deep gambling debts and figured “shutting down this school will help us pay our debts” or something cause this is just messed up. My heart goes out to all the students who now have to find a new school. And to the other students who just got accepted to that school, were planning to fly there to start their first semester, and now have to find another school. And that one student at 0:17, I like her attitude. Hope she does alright.
Imagine booking air travel, a hotel, transportation, and other expenses to visit the campus in May as a freshman student starting in the fall, and the school knew but didn't tell you that there was going be no fall semester. Imagine spending that time and money when you could have been visiting other campuses and imagine writing other campuses turning down their offer of admission or asking to be withdrawn from consideration because you thought you would be attending this school.
