Remember, your resume is ultimately your ‘passport’ to your next dream job. Take your time with it, make sure it’s professional and it gives the best view of who you are and what you bring to the table. You've got this! I wish you every success! 😊
I've been asked to provide a complete professional history on my resume, to prove over 25 years of experience in order to be considered a Senior level candidate. I recommend that people keep a complete resume updated along with a short version.
I was recommended to your channel by a friend. I have been struggling when applying for jobs and take far too long crafting a resume as I over think things. My biggest challenge is tailoring my resume to the job description. Sometimes I take a who day to craft a resume. Thanks for your tips, I am guilty of writing too much and obsessed in getting every bullet point grammatically correct.
I love that you're addressing the mistakes teachers often make when transitioning to different careers. It's essential to approach the job search with a fresh mindset and avoid falling into these traps. Thank you for the helpful advice!
AMEN! Thank you, Brigette! I'm taking the time to re-brand myself as suitable to be a supervisor/manager. I've spent far too many years feeling underpaid at jobs that were easy for me to achieve. I'm taking a stand to strive for better and challenge my capabilities. I'm pretty excited!
Certainly opened my eyes on the pointers you just mentioned! All are found in my resume, it makes my current one like an amateur's write up. Fixing it asap - thank you very much for the pointers!
Well-done Ms Hyacinth! A résumé is a _sales brochure_ created solely for the purpose of obtaining an interview. When I was tasked with running job clubs for the unemployed I used a sample résumé created by the successful applicant for the job of co-ordinating the election campaign for a US senator. It was one side of an American Letter page, so slightly shorter than A4! The résumé listed the achievements of the applicant in such things as planning, co-ordination, budgeting etc, quantified wherever possible. One's immediate reaction to the document was a strong desire to meet her. Nowhere was it mentioned that her formidable skills were acquired by being a highly successful housewife! Having had to assess job applications while managing a business, one is looking for ways to _reject_ applications! You want to reduce the applications to the 3 or 4 most likely hires as quickly as possible. Fortunately most applicants' résumés make this easy, although tedious when there are more than a hundred to scrutinise! Successful résumés make the employer's task easier.
You are the best I have seen so far. I was just severance due to outsourcing overseas. Well, the people the customers complained about now have all the work. I wish the company the best. They will need it.
I understand your point about headshots but the UNFORTUNATE thing is that with the prevalent use of LinkedIn, we are exposed to the same bias you mentioned about headshots. No one seems to talk about this!! LinkedIn is being promoted as a great resource and it is recommended that one includes a photo. The photo is how some potential employers or recruiters judge you before even reading about what you have to offer.
Such great pointers that you would think most folks would know as common standards. This is where her content fills in the blanks for the people whom it doesn't come naturally. Thank you @Brigette
Amen! Been a Recruiter for 6 years now and still I learn new things from this content realizing that I have several mistakes with how my resume is being presented specially highlighting accomplishment instead of task/responsibilities.
I honestly don't have a choice. I think tasks and responsibilities highlight your competencies and skills you're able to do when you don't exactly have quantified "accomplishments". Not every job out there is even applicable to that. That's like corporate and office work.
is the "avoiding of overuse theme for me", something to correct by me.thank you Brigette. I would appreciate you make videos as regards to applying for entry level jobs especially for fresh graduates, how to go about the interviews, how to make up your CV for specifically that and so on...
THANK YOU! LOVE THAT YOU CALL OUT THAT PRONOUNS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH WOOOOORRRRK EXPERIENCE! I feel SO sorry for those of you who have to read resumes that may focus on that aspect.
I had the opposite experience regarding resume length... For a very long time I had a single page resume, and never received too many interview calls. Soon after I made a lengthy and detailed resume, I started to get many interview calls, and I cleared one. Same experience my wife too had... her 10 page CV helped her clear 4 interviews, thus had 4 offers to choose from.
Amen! Thank you for these amazing tips! I have a long career history and really struggled with getting that 2-3 pages -these tips will for sure get that for me! It is has been a long time for me, having to be on the job search and there have been many changes over the years. Thank you again!❤️
Extremely helpful! just finished a bootcamp and setup everything except my resume! will use these points to make sure I try my best to score a job! thank you!
Excellent brief @BrigetteHyacinth ! This was the most informative résumé brief I've seen! Using examples of what to change to was the perfect educational tool. And because of your closing: *"With God, all things are possible."* I subscribed!
Thank you for these tips, Bridgette! You helped me change my resume for the better! I am hoping for a career change for a better more fulfilling life. Again, thank you!
... Just started this video, and legit the first thing you brought up I had already done, not out of some knowledge but shear laziness just wanting to make a "Good enough" resume...
Hi Bridgette, my first time seeing your content. I do employability support in the disability sector in Scotland. I've been teaching exactly everything you've advised on this video with significant pushback from 'industry professionals '. With one minor exception, which may be a cultural difference, about making sure the personal statement is first person, although I do utterly agree with removing it for the rest. Otherwise you hit every single point exactly! Thanks for the reassurance 😀
Practical tips for preparing better resume... Thank you so much Brigette for such a precise & accurate resume preparation tips. I will surely follow these tips while updating my resume. 😊👍
Thank you so much. Love you for being kind. This is what most people charge a lot of money to teach others, here you are giving it out for free. God bless you and grant you your heart desires in Jesus name❤❤
Thanks for these invaluable tips, whoops, action verbs, let me express my profound gratitude for these invaluable pearls of wisdom for a professional resume.
These are great tips. The only caveat I'd have for removing experience is unless it's for the U.S. civil service. All of your relevant experience has a direct affect on your ability to get the job and whether you can negotiate your salary.
Thank you. Extremely useful and allowed me to introspect.. I must admit this spoke directly and succinctly to me. Making changes to my resume ASAP. Blessings
You taught me a lot. I also wished I had seen your video about salary negotiations before starting my new job. I made some of the very mistakes you mentioned, thus causing them to low ball me😢. I Thanks to you I will be better equipped for my next job.
Lastly, be patient and persistent during your career transition. It may take time to find the perfect opportunity, but stay positive and keep refining your resume and job search strategies. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and you'll find a rewarding new career path!
AMEN 👏👏👏 The question is, why is HR/ hiring managers so poor at reading between the lines and analyzing what people have written about their work history? (If an adult interviewed a child, the adult would be expected to read between the lines to understand the child. The gap between an adult understanding another adult in a similar industry of work should NOT be as big as an adult understanding a child....) It's as if the people hiring are incapable of critically analyzing someone's work (aka reading comprehension), given a few sentences (aka resume), when it's their JOB to analyze people's work at a company ALL THE TIME. 👀 Sounds a lot like incompetent people not understanding competent people looking for work...
Thank you so much for sharing the real and workable in formation for professionals at any level. Some i already knew but you gave the updated version too.
As a hiring manager I can tell you this guide should be only for people without too much experience. I'm someone who spend 20 years in IT, and grow many times in career. You absolutely cannot fit my CV in two pages avoid long text 😂 Even if you do my CV will became absolutely irrelevant.
Remember, your resume is ultimately your ‘passport’ to your next dream job. Take your time with it, make sure it’s professional and it gives the best view of who you are and what you bring to the table. You've got this! I wish you every success! 😊
