Just rewatched this video from years ago after watching your latest video on the new FSR. Thanks for your hard work in getting info out to people who may not have ever been outdoorsy. My wife and I watched a documentary tonight "social dilemma" about the downfalls of social media and you are the opposite. The positive part that drives people to get out. I grew up in the country and lived for being outdoors and your video of this tent is what started my plan to build my off-road trailer and purchase my CVT. Thanks Casey
Very nice review of a fantastic looking setup. That system is a perfect way to camp without having to tow a heavy and cumbersome trailer. Since it is such a compact system, only a very small area is required in order to get set up. If you have room to park your vehicle, you pretty much also have room to camp. Thanks for sharing this video.
+campfire52 Thank you. You're spot on. As long as I have a decently level place to park I'm good to go. It's very easy to set up and tear down as well. For me I just enjoy camping so much more if I can minimize the amount of equipment I'm using, and minimize the amount of time I have tied up in set up and tear down.
I've watched a lot of your videos. Thanks! I've seen a few of the anex videos but yours has convinced me that I would want it. I think that's the extra ground level space that my wife would need to have a little control of her own comfort.

I only use my annex during cold weather camping, but the added space to change clothes while standing, and to put a Buddy heater down below to heat up the attic is very comfortable.

I know what you mean. I live in the high deserts of Central Oregon and the weather can change on a dime. I just got home from another 3 days out staying in it. The temperature ranged from about 30 degrees to 4 degrees and several waves of snowstorms hit me. I have stayed in it in some pretty serious weather and so far it's worked just fine. I'l keep you guys posted though and report if I have any issues.
+Canadian Prepper It would be perfect on your Jeep. Most of the time I just use the upper portion of the roof top tent. But in bad weather, having that extra room in the annex is a game changer. Good to hear from you!

There's a few differences between the two. Mine is Orange so not very tactical. Heavier made material and frame so they say. I have only stayed in mine for about 6 days total. What a great nights rest.

It would sleep two comfortably. There would even be a little bit of room for some gear with two people sleeping in it. Not a lot, but room for a duffle bag or two for sure.
Awesome. Roof top tents are the way to go for truck camping in my opinion! And the winter camping is a lot of fun as well. Takes a bit to get it dialed in and comfortable but I love being out there in the winter. The nice thing about winter camping is you can go to some places that normally have a lot of people in them in the summer, and have them all to your self in the winter. Cheers!
I love the roof top concept.I came real close to puling the trigger on on for my truck.In the end I changed my mind because of the wet environment I live and play in.Did not feel leaving it roof top during the winter was going to work out.How do dry it after a wet trip? I get jealous every time I see one though.
It's pretty dry where I live and there is rarely a time that it goes more than two weeks without getting used. I've folded it up wet several times and just left it that way until my next trip. Now keep in mind I live in a really dry climate. I don't know how well that would work if was packed away longer, or in a wetter climate. When I broke camp this morning it still had a bit of snow on it when I collapsed it. But I will be using it again next weekend so it will be fine.
I ran it for about two years and then switched to the Freespirit tents. I just like their designs a little better. They ride lower on the vehicle when they are stowed and they are easier to set up and take down. The first Freespirit tent I ran was the M49 adventure series which I ran for about 6 months, then switched to the M55 Adventure series which is the same tent as the M49, just about 8 inches wider. I’ve never had any issues with either of them but I like the larger size better. Just give me a bit more room for gear and to run a heater in the winter. You can check them out at www.gofsr.com. Love the tent. I would drive a long way to tent and worried about the canvas holding up to the vehicle wind. I have had luggage bags rip up. Also it would be nice if you had a sunroof access to the car. Could be a 3rd room. especially if you had a van or a lg SUV. Even get to the Midwest? Would love to camp with you and the boys...
I've had it on top of my rig for almost two years now, and I've slept in it something like 60 nights. So far I haven't had any issues with it. It seems to handle the wind just fine. I'll let you know if I start having any issues with it.
Is there a bottom "bath tub" portion that Zips on the annex to completely seal it from the elements? I have seen that in some videos and was wondering if the Shasta's included annex has it!
Yes it does. You can kind of see it in this video. I didn't zip it in, I just folded it in half and laid it in the ground to make a half size floor. But it is set up to completely zip in and make a full bathtub floor.
+Rickhemeon Hemeon I think it would work great. I've seen a few of them on pretty small cars. I think as long as the rack is decently sturdy it would be fine. But shoot Bobby a message on Instagram or send him an email. He's the owner of the company and I know he's installed them on almost every imaginable vehicle. Cool guy. CVT Tents or Cascadia Vehicle Tents. If you end up getting one the only issue will be if you ever have to go back to a ground tent ;-). I'm ruined for life now. Every time I car camp with a friend and we go in their vehicle I feel like I'm in the slums sleeping in my ground tent...lol.

Most of the people I've talked to that have purchased one that don't live in the area just had it shipped to them. I have another one though that puts out a lower volume of heat that I can leave on for a longer period of time. It's called a Little Buddy heater and it's perfect for a tent about that size. It’s not bad if you have the right sleeping bag that’s rated cold enough. The sleeping is really comfortable even out in the subzero. It’s the getting into the sleeping bag at night and getting out of it in the morning that are the cold parts ;-) But I sometimes use my little Optimus Crux butane backpacking stove to heat the tent up a bit. I never fall asleep with it on, just turn it on for a little bit when I’m getting settled into my bag for the night. And then I’ll turn it on in the morning when I’m getting out of my sleeping bag and getting dressed sometimes. It’s not too bad out there even in the winter. With the right gear and clothing I stay pretty comfortable most of the time. Cheers my friend!
+Jensen “JC” Caldwell The chest rig I use is made by Hill People Gear. Basically I carry essentials in it that I want quick access to, and a few survival Items that I want to always have on me. It's probably time I do an updated video on what I keep in it. But it's things like a compass, fire steel, bandana, energy bar, caffeine/energy gel pack, flashlight, tourniquet, spoon, extra folding knife, etc. Cheers Casey
Wonder why they don't have a door on the car side so you could access a vehicle door like some other "annex" models. Having that option comes in real handy when you have a fridge or your power system in the rear seat area.
It does have a door on the car side. I just wasn't using it in this video. I have before and depending on what I"m doing it can be a great way to set it up.

+Allan Byrne I have tents too. But I rarely ever use them anymore when I'm car camping. The CVT Roof Top Tent is just so much simpler and quicker to set up and tear down. For me it's all about minimizing the amount of work/time that goes into setting up and taking down camp. My whole set up is up and down in about 20 minutes each for what I consider the basics. I can do more from that point if I want more luxuries. But usually I don't stop for the night until almost dark, throw my camp up, eat, sleep, and then tear down and get back exploring early the next morning. Cheers. Thanks for the comment. I have tents too and they don't take that long to erect, one actually takes seconds and as I have said you can use the vehicle. I have also owned a rooftop tent and they are really overrated, a lot of messing around fitting them to the vehicle and then you have to climb a ladder. Down again if you fancy a pee, a nightmare in the dark, modern tents are so much easier, cheaper, lighter, etc. How is this a "luxury"? Crazy! I now have a small campervan, stop anywhere I want, secure, with inbuilt cooking facilities, toilet..now that's luxury...and you can drive away in seconds.
I agree with you about the wildlife, but floods, just learn about pitching and as your girlfriend who likes being on top... yes I have heard of that, mine, well she prefers having her back on the ground? ..............I thought mountain lions could climb, thought a fire would be better, but we don't have many of them down here in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch?

That's a great idea. I could easily put together a camo net and pole kit packed in a duffle bag that just stayed in the vehicle.

It would sleep two comfortably. There would even be a little bit of room for some gear with two people sleeping in it. Not a lot, but room for a duffle bag or two for sure.

I would really like to get a rooftop tent for my Element. It's use makes a lit of sense.

I now have a small campervan, stop anywhere I want, secure, with inbuilt cooking facilities, toilet..now that's luxury...and you can drive away in seconds.
