I can definitely see ways this mod could have been improved for difficulty, but it doesn't seem too bad. Omitting the Titan Dweevil feels like a complete miss though.
It'd probably be really hard to work it into any of the pre-existing areas without some heavy modification due to pathing behaviour and such, which I imagine is the case for most of the cave bosses. With custom maps, It'd probably be more doable.
I think segmented crawbster would have been pretty good, though the falling rocks wouldn't make sense as a mechanic (unrealistic, plus falling rocks aren't introduced beforehand)
@@YEs69th420the titan dweevil is just a nightmare to work with in general, its functionality is tied to the final boss music which cannot play at all in the overworld afaik, hell trying to spawn the titan dweevil in most caves at all will typically cause crashes because of that maybe someone more knowledgeable about the game’s code like pikhacker could get the titan dweevil to work on the overworld, however you can spawn the titan dweevil in the overworld only on day 1 for some reason pikmin 2 is strange like that
@@lamegamertime the segmented crawbster sounds good on paper, until you realize that the crawbster alone takes up a THIRD of all available memory for an overworld area i’ve tried spawning it in and i had to remove all but one plant in the wistful wild and remove some enemies just to load the area and not crash the game if you’re curious the crawbster gives 30 pikmin for bringing it to the onion
i feel like some of the problems of omitting bosses could be fixed by making the game technically have caves, but it's just a single sublevel boss room and nothing else.
Really goes to show how much the caves add to Pikmin 2. This felt like there was just less of the game, barely being longer than Pikmin 1. Also, I think an interesting twist would have been if the boss didn't accompany you after Louie leaves, but that you have to do the rest of the game solo. That might have added a bit more difficulty.

You can't go much further than the Valley of Repose in a caveless vanilla run. You need to enter a cave to get access to the other areas to get enough treasures to pay off the debt, since there's only one treasure you can initially obtain. Even if you had access to the rest of the area with only red pikmin there's only a total of 980 Pokos worth of treasures on the surface.
I think a way to balance purple pikmin in the mod could be that their onion needs 10 "units" to spawn one pikmin. Their respective pellets would still spawn the same number of pikmins as the pellet number, but scale the weight to the units value ( "1" Purple Pellet - 10 weight). Also make them more uncommon than other pellets so you couldn't stack a lot of PP that easily, so when taking back corpses you'd have to choose between increasing 10 pikmins of any other type or just 1 PP (An invest-reward kinda mechanic) This would make the PP more Transport/Dandori oriented, leaving the attacking role to reds

A piece of me can't help but wonder how this could play out if the caves were landing areas stitched together, like how the Forest Navel is a "cave", you'd explore the Shower Room, Snagret Garden, and Glutton's Kitchen as single overworld areas. I don't think that adding new areas would even be possible though, might not even be fun considering how Caves are designed without open exploration in mind.

Purple Pikmin are my favorite Pikmin, but even so, I can understand their overpoweredness and a mod wanting to remove them. I think they should've had a choice to nerf them a bit in the options though.

Pikmin 2 is actually the FIRST game in the series. Pikmin 2 released before Pikmin 1. Fans of Pikmin RAIDED Nintendo's office and took over the inside just to remove caves from Pikmin 1. Pikmin 1 is CAVELESS because the anti-cave fans REMOVED them!!!! This is a cautionary tale, don't make pikmin fans angry else they'll storm an office and remove you from the sequel.
Honestly wonder if it would've been better to scale up the world maps to about Pikmin 2 size, Include an area that is just caves but the "subfloor" you go to depends on which hole you jump in so it kind of simulates exploring the overworld in a sense, and of course increasing the health of enemies. Part of what makes Pikmin 2's overworlds feel so...weak is the fact that the stages are really small compared to Pikmin 1 and thus you're never really under a "time crunch". Plus the larger, imposing enemies reinforced how dangerous the world felt when a bulborb was bigger than a 100 size pikmin army and Snagrets could only be reached wtih yellows when fully emerged (at least easily). Not sure, but I think that would make it "feel" more like Pikmin 1, and adding a "cave level" to resemble Forest Navel (AND give room for all the treasures as the larger level geometry would mean more space to put things). And then on top of that, you wouldn't need to "remove Purples" cause their ability to carry 10x the weight but slower would actually be more necessary for beating it quickly. Still it's a nice step in the right direction.
The caves aren’t bad in concept, but I think there were just a bit too many in pikmin two. I like most of the things they introduce even more polarizing stuff like the falling bombs, but I also enjoy the gameplay of being outside if they’re able to strike it better balance I feel like pikmin two would be less divisive
Imagine if they somehow made a special final boss area with the titan dweevil work for this mod. That would be awesome Probably impossible but it would be awesome
