    As a 54 years old woman (3 years into post menopause) I’ve cried a few times during this interview. I’ve never felt so represented in someone’s words. My life was miserable for 4 years in perimenopause and then 2 years in post menopause. I was dismissed so many times by people around me, by family doctors and even by Obgyns. Until I said enough is enough. I looked for a new obgyn, I educated myself and I advocated for my health. I’ve been on HRT for one year now and I’m a new person, all symptoms went away and I feel like my old self again. My recommendation: fight for yourself and don’t anyone dismiss your symptoms and your feelings

    Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not.
    Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down..
    Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults.
    Play with your children on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor.
    The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.

    • @gillianm9367
      @gillianm9367 Місяць тому +8

      Couldn't agree more. Even at my fittest I struggled to get off floor however this year (age 55) I was shocked to discover how much this had worsened in last 4 years. I'm now doing a few extra stretches and balances each day and also working on losing the 2 stone I've gained in last 4 years.
      My wake up call was trying to get up from a yoga mat in a relaxation class earlier this year 😮

    • @mousebr549

      I can bend over and touch the floor with my fingers. However, arthritis does not allow me to get down on the floor. I used to love gardening. I exercise, I do low impact. If I want to do anything like mop a floor or clean base boards, I have to wrap my knees like a body builder. Just to avoid the pain. And it only makes the pain almost bearable.

I ran all type of blood test, even HIV I thought I had caught a very bad disease, cancer, something. My headaches disabled me, I m taking about having this neuralgia type of pain for 20 days. Dr Mary Claire has been amazing in getting the word out about this subject, but Dr. Felice Gersh is next level. A big thank you to these women. Unfortunately, trying to get a doctor who is knowledgeable about HRT is a huge obstacle. The medical system should make a mandatory class to educate existing doctors. This can be done now. We are half of the population. It is appalling women have been so neglected in this area.

    Currently in Perimenopause at 48. I have a wonderful OBGYN who also delivered both of my kids and is a wonderful surgeon. I am an obsessive learner regarding health and this is my new topic! Many varying symptoms spurned me to begin taking Progesterone and testosterone. Judging by my remaining symptoms...id say my estrogen is low lows and high highs and ever changing (your ovaries alternate- remember that).
    Being a lifelong workout queen, it has been humbling. A work in progress 💪 now. Keep trying, never give up, and remember you are worth it and deserve to be healthy and strong! If a doctor tells you no, often it's because he or she is out of their depth.

      I'm glad you brought up the Misogyny aspect. I had a hysterectomy and was slow to heal. My doctor was acting kinda weird that I wasn't healing as quickly as he hoped. I said "Well, my body is going to heal in its own time. Whether it takes 3 months or 10, what does it matter as long as I'm healing" and he was like stuttering and looking concerned "Well..Im concerned about..you know..your husband" and I looked at him confused and I said "My husband? Why are you concerned about my husband?" and the doctor was like "Well, you know..he's going to want to get back to having sex as soon as possible" I'm thinking "Wtf is wrong with you? I'm not a toy" hahaha.

So I was given antidepressants which helped some but I went from 226 lbs to 336 lbs. No matter what I ate or did, the weight keeps piling on. I worked at a very physically job and walking over 14 kms a day plus walking my dogs after work. I also was diagnosed with crohns, worsening osteoarthritis and I had to retire early and I gained even more weight from meds and can barely walk a km. My doctor says that there is no range to gauge my hormone levels. I miss how I use to be. I feel so old. My body aches everywhere like as if I had a fever and joint pain.

    My world was spinning out of control and I could not figure out what is going on, apart from not having my periods and getting hot flushes. I have been dismissed by male and female doctors with "You are just getting old and start exercising and you will feel better about life" every single time. This is amazing information that gives hope for future generations of women. I am afraid, by the time it trickles down to every doctor and insurance company, I would be gone as a woman and as a human being.

      Kaiser said I was too young for menopause at 43. I shouldn't be having hot flashes since I'm on birth control. (I've taken it consecutively for 12 years as well so haven't had a period on 12 years; no way to judge by that) My lack of libido is mental. Bloating and swelling? *shrug*. Weight gain? Well, that's just what happens as we get older. I finally went to an online clinic that specializes in hormones, they ordered VERY thorough, detailed labs (fasted, which Kaiser never requested), and it turns out that not only do I have hypothyroidism, I'm IN menopause. I started HRT a week and a half ago, and already starting to feel better. The NP was like, yeah, you need ALL the things! So now I'm on thyroid medication, DHEA, testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone. But I had to go out of pocket.
