I was born and raised in Guatemala, but I left the country when I was 13. I always go back for Christmas since most of my family still lives there. I was in Guatemala for about a month last year , and I only took $400 with me and I had no issues in running out of money. Overall it's worth going over there. Beautiful country and not costly at all. :)
The black cat is next to my house, in fact at the end of the video you passed in from of it hehehe, BTW beer is cheaper, you bought it in a convinience store that is more expensive. In a regular tienda you can find Gallo at 1 USD aprox.
Guatemala is such a beautiful tiny country. I hope you get to travel to tikal one day. amazing to see the how the Mayan civilization up there was. glad you had fun there!
Tanner Wilson it's not the most dangerous country there. That honor belongs to Honduras and probably followed by El Salvador. Guatemala can be dangerous if you allow yourself to get into a tough situation but you can stay safe if you remain aware of your surroundings.
No doubt Guatemala one of the top 10 most beautiful countries in the world. Too bad their best president in history Jacobo Arbenz was overthrown by the CIA and USA government in a terrorist invasion in 1954 that followed a civil war hat caused the life of more than 200,000 people. God bless
Thanks for visiting my country hope guatemala was good to you like the fact that we are a country that has alot of tourist from all over and some decide to stay.
I'm going to Xela in 6 weeks for language school for my and I'm so happy my mom found your channel! It's great you make these videos documenting your traveling. thank you so much. I'm definitely going to check out these places! the food looks so good. I'm going to be living with a family so I will be with them a lot. I'm actually going to be there for new years this year! I'm so excited thanks Gabriel
You're doing really good with this videos my friend..! I'm originally from Guatemala and you've been to places I didn't even knew they existed.. Keep it Up.!
+Mike Monzon that is what i was thinking too that this guy knows more nice places that i don't know and now it encourage me more to visit those nice places specially xela. i know only panajachel, just kidding :)
That restaurant was awesome I love that fountain area. I really need to go to Gabriel Travelers Anonymous because I'll be poor after visiting all the cool places you have made me want to see.
My first impressions.... earthy raw..real .... blew me away.. definitely a place for anyone who still have love for simple.life ... it might be fancy.. but I feel this place has something very beautiful..thanks for this vlog.. keep the camera rolling my friend.
I'm a new sub. Binged watched your latin america videos. Am going to watch the rest one by one. I love your filming style...showing the real streets...real people...real expenses...your videos feel authentic!
Awesome, thanks. Have you found my playlists page already? That makes it easier to watch all the videos from one place in a row, in their correct order without having to skip around: ua-cam.com/users/gabejedmoplaylists
I was raised in Guatemala Toticopan!!!! When I turn 4 years old I moved places. At first i was living in utah for a while then I moved to California....
@minute 6:25. Sounds like it's the Holy Week. Nice vid you're very open to other cultures that make your videos better then others. You're not afraid to try new things
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Your Knowledgw sweet voice , your angel and natural Charisma made this videos really entertaining , and helpful , i love the way you portrait all scenes in this BEAUTYFUL Country GUATEMALA,
Desayuno Tipico-Typical Breakfast -in Xela. You can even get cheaper than that in the Maya Ristorante near the Dispensa Familiar Supermarket 1 block from Parque Central or the main Plaza/Park in Sela.
just saw the video. tks for take the time to share this beautiful video from my country Guatemala. Quezaltenago is the second city after the capital, is beautiful place to relax and learn something about Maya culture. didn't have much time to enjoy and travel xela. but i remember the some great places..currently i live in Austin Texas for almost 15 years exactly the same time that i have not been back in my country. again tks for the video
+jose ramos ITS ALSO THE CITY WITH THE LEAST CRIME IN GUATEMALS AMD MOST STUDENTS . ALSO ONE OF THE COOLEST WEATHER WISE . I SPENT A MONTH THERE YEARS AGO . LOVED I WANT TO GO BACK SOME DAY .
nice video man! im so jealous of you right now, but its ok i will be back to my Guatemala soon and i will enjoy myself just as much! keep up the videos they are cool!!
this encourages me to actually try a hostel some time and stop being a prissy princess with all inclusive resorts with amenities that I dont even use. I like the rustic, authentic feel of hostel use. Do you usually travel alone? Just curious. I'm new here so yeah.
KaiserFailed Seriously, hostels are the best. They're a great way to meet interesting people from all around the world and an excellent way to save money. And depending on the hostel they can provide some pretty upscale lodging. Not staying in hostels is missing out on half the travel experience.
KaiserFailed yah dude try a hostel... i was exactly the same before i went to europe and was "forced" into hostels out of financial necessity... and after my experiences, i would stay in hostels even if i had the money to stay at nice hotels. You will make friends for life, get to know some locals and get more authentic advice on places to see and eat
Hello Gabriel!! You are awesome! Question for you. From all those beautiful places where you have been... Could you mention at least five of your favorite places? I really want to know wich places a should go before I die!
man, I love your videos. Hoping to spend a month or so studying Spanish in Xela at some point. Curious if you have a favorite country/countries in Latin America
I had a bad experience in Guatemala :( So now i only go thru without stopping but yeah this country offfers alot with little money. The last meal i had there cost me 25 quetzalez. Beautiful country and people.
Hoz Holla Yep for sure, if you're in the mood for street food. I had tacos there a few nights before. But sometimes it's worth the extra expense, especially for dinner to have a nice place to sit down at. Fortunately I've avoided the "Mayan revenge", I assume that's the same as "Delhi belly"?
forever zeta It would make it tougher! But not impossible. I'm just now uploading a video explaining 6 different ways to book hotel rooms...By the way just so you know, I'm heading tomorrow back into Mexico. I think I'm going to Zipolite, check it out if you haven't heard of it, looks pretty sweet! Not sure how long I'll be there, but it looks like the sort of place where you could hang out for a while and find plenty to do, so I could end up there for a week or two.
I would think so - especially if you're OK with rustic accommodation. I'd love to get away from wifi when I sleep. To me that would be pure luxury. Who wants to get cooked by EMF 24/7?
Great videos!! $5 dollars is a lot to pay for a breakfast in Guatemala. Shouldn't cost more than $3 for a similar breakfast. Eating in restaurants will kill your budget. Eat at markets and small stall sized eateries. The food is better and half the cost or less.
I've eaten out all over Central America. The only places that gave me a bad stomach were "clean" restaurants. Outward cleanliness doesn't mean the food is cooked and handled properly. The video is about budget travel not food safety and aesthetics.
Wanting to take my mom with me to Guatemala for our first travel experience! Can anyone recommend the best way to travel once inside Guatemala (bus, train, etc) and how much money should you carry with you? It doesn’t seem like it would be safe to leave it back in the hostel? Thanks in advance for any info! Super excited!

I've heard it's the most dangerous country in Central America! For me, it's Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras are the nations to avoid!

@@GabrielTravelerVideos I did...and must say they're all awesome!
Excellent.
I love that Ricardo Arjona's music in the backround of the restaurant.
Awesome !!! I love when people share videos like this. Be careful
nachos cost the same as a room?
+supe12man1991 well, a super cheap room yeah.
Not a room. A bed in a dorm. But yeah seems expensive.
Well 1 dollar is 8 quetzalas over there.
I was raised in Guatemala Toticopan!!!! When I turn 4 years old I moved places. At first i was living in utah for a while then I moved to California....

Beautiful city I was there last year and it was great, the whether is nice.
I bought your guide to budget travel by the way! No doubt it will be a good read, hopefully it can help pay towards a hostel for a night or something

Have you tried Huehuetenango ? It's about 6 or 7 hours from Guatemala City and it really cheap too and more beautiful places like Antigua Guatemala .
many gangs have move into that territory. Better know where you are going and what you are doing there or you could wind up DEAD.
Proud of be a Guatemalan person :)

After that breakfast I don't think I would have eaten again that day.Another great video.
Wow, this place was so quaint and relaxed. Whatever you do, stay out of Puerto Quetzal. That was one of the most dangerous places I have been.
Those are some expensive nanchos

Great informative video. Noticed the Lonely Planet guide, I just bought that edition off E Bay has it come in handy?
Karl Mckernan Yes definitely, I've mostly just used it to read about different places, some of the history and made use of the maps.
Gabriel, it looks like you really lived it up in Guatemala.
nice video .. thanks for posting
Amazing videos dude !!
Cool, thanks.
Much cheaper to eat off the street vendors. Have you had any problems with "Mayan Revenge" or Tourista?

Like that shirt!
5 bucks for breakfast, 6 bucks for a twin mattress... seems expensive considering you can only make 8 bucks a day.

+Mike Honcho okay, I'm from Guatemala that why I know the difference between both but if you say so
It's a "gringo tax" they're charging him. If he was a Latino he'd get charged a lot less
DG IG hahahaaa a gringo tax that sounds a little weird!!! cant wait for vacation in antigua and that is cheap!
6:25 is called (alfombra de aserrín) they carry a giant statue of god or La Virgen
