深圳河分隔深港兩地，來自全國各地偷渡者匯集深圳，逃港方式分走路、游泳和坐船三種，路線有東線、中線和西線。東線從大鵬灣游水過去，灣裡鯊魚多，不少偷渡者被咬死。
今天不小香港成功人士和富豪，是當年游水偷渡者。
在長達近30年的大逃港浪潮，近百萬逃港者中絕不乏本港名人富豪，當中包括著名作家倪匡、壹傳媒創辦人黎智英，劉夢熊等。
1979年-1980香港 大陸第三波偷渡潮，政府取消《抵壘政策》一律《即捕即解》
1974年11月開始，香港實施「抵壘政策」，中國大陸偷渡客如果成功到達市區(界限街以南) 即可得到香港居民的身分。很多人從大陸冒死游水偷渡到香港，當中有不少死在海中，亦有於邊境被邊防人員「即捕即解」的。
1979年，中國大陸居民偷渡到香港情況越來越嚴重。1980年10月23日，香港政府宣佈取消抵壘政策，對所有偷渡者一律「即捕即解」 - 所有非法入境者一經發現，即被遣返中國大陸。

One of my uncles swam across from China and was picked up by the Hong Kong police. My father had fled China just before the border had closed and had contacts in the HK police so when my uncle was picked up, they immediately informed my father that they had picked up his brother.

Interesting story. May I ask what happened after to your uncle? Was it allowed to stay? Sorry, I'm from Italy and curious about these stories.

@@lfarru yes, he was allowed to stay and later moved to the uk. The HK police was very sympathetic to people who fled China in those early days.

I spent many hours in Sha Tou Kok and other parts of the New Territories in the early 70’s. It was a fascinating place.

He did! He retired as Senior Assistant Commissioner in 2005

Today, if you swim to HK, you wouldn't find freedom anymore, you have to escape from HK to UK or other western countries to enjoy true freedom. Hongkongers themselves are fleeing nowadays.
