Oboist here- searching “oboe stock photos” shows a guy with a clarinet on the first page. 🤦🏼♀️ 😢
Keeper of the Domus I’m learning the oboe! Any tips? I literally started 2 weeks ago
Posture is super important! Make sure to keep both feet on the ground and sit up straight so you can use the air from your diaphragm.
Lmao
i found a clarinet stock photo showing an oboe
If u type Clarinet stock images like the 4th or 5th image is an Oboe so it’s the same the other way round too💀
I don’t even play the violin. I play the clarinet, but you two are so freaking entertaining. Subscribed.
Same
Hello fellow clarinetist(s)
Anyone notice waltz no. 2 in the background??? Hi clarinets!
I play the flute, but same principle :)
I just went and looked at clarinet stock photos, and I think they're even worse than the violin ones. For comparison, it'd be like if the violinist held the bow in their teeth. The most common and egregious errors were: no ligature or reed, mouthpiece is upside-down, fingers aren't even over the holes, embouchure so bad it would be impossible to make a sound. There were also a few people with oboes that popped up.
Oof, as an artist who uses random pic from google as pose refs I find this very informative, thank you :'D
Ha, I'm an artist and I do that too! But I'm cautious! I'd never draw from a stock image if it's a skill being portrayed. If it's not something I'm already Extremely familiar with, I always check the source & info on the image, because if I type in something like "Sahara desert," chances are that a bunch of the photos will be of the Sonoran, and if I weren't cautious I might end up putting saguaro cacti in my African scene. Or if I type in "Edwardian men's clothing" there are bound to be a whole bunch of other eras lurking amongst the actual pieces. Or if I say "Zulu," the search results will be interlarded with any African tribe, or fake stock images with someone of vaguely African descent dressed in a costume ordered from China, and probably wearing it wrong!
I learned so much from this. I've drawn violin being played before (big mistake. I need to find it and see how bad it was now)
(Ok update. Pose was alright but I couldnt draw fingers then so I can't make out wth is going on the violin. Bow was fine thank the lords)
i use myself for references
i do that too😂 but, i'm a violinist (the noob one :v) so, i'm a bit picky to those picture😂😂

*To everyone asking about left-handed violinists*
Yes, there are people who play with the violin in their right hand and the bow in their left hand, but it's very rare, for several reasons :
1. Traditionally, the violin has been played on the left side for centuries. No need to explain the importance of tradition when it comes to classical music...
2. The instrument itself isn't symmetrical. In order to play it "left-handedly", it isn't enough to just switch the strings or put the chin rest on the other side. You basically have to build an entire new violin for it to be playable by a left-handed person.
(And you can clearly see in the pictures, because of the position of the chin rest and the strings, that these are not left-handed violins, but right-handed violins which these people held on the wrong side.)
3. It is much harder, not only to find a left-handed violin, but to also find a teacher who is able and willing to teach you the violin on the "wrong" side.
4. In an orchestra, it's absolutely necessary for all the string players to play on the same side. Otherwise, all the musicians would spend their time stabbing each other with their bows ! Plus, one of the beauty of watching an orchestra playing is seeing all the bows moving together in the same direction at the same time.
For all these reasons, the huge majority of left-handed people play violin the same way than right-handed people : violin in the left hand, bow in the right hand.
Life is unfair for left handed people 😓
I read somewhere that left-handed people have an advantage playing a typical "right-handed" violin because the tricky work (fingering) is done with the dominant hand.
As a left-handed one, I'm actually fine with it being in a original side. I play the guitar with the frets in the left side 'coz I just borrowed guitars to learn. It's a bit challenging but it's actually fun
thank you for the thorough explanation!
I love the thorough explanation. As a lefty, I'm pretty accustomed to this. I've recently started learning violin and it works for me since I have more dexterity in my left hand.

EasySmartBoosh yes but they still synchronized it a bit strange sometimes, like one time she was practicing and there were just scales on her notes and sometimes they bow doesn‘t match the sound
One of my friends plays LEFT HANDED VIOLIN! I was so surprised when I first saw that. AND, she isn’t even left handed
But I bet she flips the chin rest! All of these images show someone who's taken a right-handed violin and just switched it to the other hand.
Violinists poke each others eyeballs out if they mix up the left/ right idea. Thats why they always learn with the violin body left and bow hold in the right.... Otherwise too many blind violinists.... Think about how close they all have to sit to each other in an orchestral pit. So although playing on the opposite side is a very unique skills, in terms of playing with others its a bit useless to be honest.
I'm scrolling to look for left-handed violins/violinists. Okay, they exist thankfully, but aww, it seems a bit difficult for them :(
I’m left handed and I play the violin like a normal person
Jacquelyn Tranchell I would say you would play the violin better if you were left handed. You have the right hand controlling the bow, and the left hand is dominant, so it has more dexterity.

+TwoSetViolin can you review some pieces from the anime "Your Lie in April'? I always wondered how well they animated the main girl who plays violin.
I saw your comment, and as a violinist myself, I am going to watch it right now and answer back(Since I don't think that Twoset will see this)
Okay so I watched the first 2 episodes, and the violin playing is not that bad, it's just that the when the 1,2, and 3 participants played, the pictures didn't move at all while the piece was playing, the posture and strokes were pretty good, but like none of them had a shoulder rest, the girl sweated a lot!!! The end was a bit informal because when you bow, you are supposed to take a really deep one, not just a slight tilt, and the way she was holding her bow while bowing was a but weird, the only out of place thing that stood out to me the most is that when she was walking off the stage, she started waving which is VERYYYYY untraditional for a classical competition or a concert, you are only supposed to bow and smile, hope this helped you!
I always wondered that too
