    A tip: you should include as well renaming of the sever's name in order to fit the new version as ws2k19dc instead of ws2k16dc

      I think you are not selecting the desktop experience, Please choose that and you will be able to select the keep files option. Other reason could be that the ISO file which you downloaded is in different language which is currently installed. Please download the correct language ISO file and try again.

    Hi could we do in place upgrade 2016 dc running on azure as an IaaS vm to 2022 domain controller?

    How can we know that, for which windows server os version has supported which schema object version? Or as part of best practice should we need to prepare the forest and domain wide information?

    if we have to update second domain controller , do we need to log in to that domain controller or can we upgrade that DC remotely , from the same Domain controller from which we did upgrade.

      We can start the upgrade remotely but I wouldn't do that. Because during the upgrade process, I want to see the progress. I also want to monitor the process if any errors come up.

    Hello, in which case It is better to perform an in place upgrade vs migration please ?

    • @MSFTWebCast
      @MSFTWebCast  9 місяців тому

      Generally recommended way is to go for the side by side migration. Most of time we have the newer hardware and new Server OS. But nowadays our old server hardware is also capable enough to run the newer version of Server OS. Also we are running our servers in Virtual machines, it also eliminates the hardware dependencies. So that is the reason why Microsoft suggest that we can go for in place upgrade in that type of condition. So for AD or server migration with VM's, go for in-place upgrade.

    How about for those normal windows server like file or application server? The step is the same? Because it's not a domain controller server

      Yes, Steps are same, but you need to make sure those applications running on these servers are compatible with Windows Server 2022, otherwise you will start facing issue.
