It wouldn’t matter if my hand was on the gun already or not, Mike would outdraw me every day of the week and twice on Sunday! That’s an amazing amount of speed MiKe is displaying and accurate speed at that.
This guys ability to slow it down tenths of a second and call it before he does it and reliably hits that mark and the shot is dealing amazing! This is why I have subbed and listen to this guy! Amazing and god bless
Love this channel! Old Jarhead here and I have been a huge supporter of "point shooting" for the past 27 years, in certain close quarter situations. I heard all the non sense of picking up the front sight...blah blah. Too slow when the threat is on top of you. You my friend have it right. It is about getting into proper alignment with the threat, with quick presentation of the weapon and trigger squeeze, all coming from muscle memory (for lack of a better term) and serious amounts of practice repetitions. I do a similar drill at about 10 yards and less, from a relaxed position, quickly getting that all important consistent grip, draw, presentation into my line of sight and squeeze for a double tap. Great video!
@@smithdw440 Yep. I developed a technique (least I've never heard of it before or since) when I was a Firearms Instructor (years back) to allow for very accurate shooting in the dark when you can't see your sights. It always worked..oh well..hopefully, it'll stay on the range.
I love your content. Straight to the point and no bs. This is literally a 4 minute video describing how to shoot faster, and I got most, if not all of what I need to train to become better. I really appreciate your videos. I get a lot out of them, and I can see myself becoming more educated on the survival aspect, and becoming better at a certain skill. I would probably be a different person if I didn’t find your videos. I used to be so uninterested in the real world, and how to go against the bad parts about it, but now I’m getting better. You were the first channel that I watched when I got my first gun last year. Really helped a lot. In the beginning, I was so uneducated about firearms, that I thought that you needed to pour gun powder through the barrel on every gun. Now I own a variety of different guns, and I learned a lot on how to use them, and how each of them works differently.
Outstanding. Way to break it down for the viewers mike. I think it’s a testament to your abilities how you can tell us what your time will be before the actual shot. Not many shooters can do that. Me included

I don't have an outdoor range to use, but have an indoor range nearby. Would starting with gun in hand at low ready & off hand across chest then present weapon to target be ok? How many shots should be taken? Start with 1, then 2, then 3? I guess I could practice draw at home with full magazine & snap-cap in chamber. Thanks.
---------MIKE i have question for you brother. 1st off i wanna say I've learned a hell of a lot watching your content and its helped a lot!! I wanna that im really glad that u talk about instinctive shooting cuz i agree that u have to learn it. Ive started practicing and I've gotten down to 1 second. My goal by end if oct is .75....i noticed you said something along the lines of you close to your limit at .5 or cuff I think you may have said. .5 is fast as shit!!! Do you think thats your limit? I was wondering if u could cut 2 tenths off by doing the same exact thing but from the hip? Ive seen Taran Butler shoot like that and he's really good! Basically im asking if you ever shoot from the hip at say 5 yards cuz thinking u can u can do .35 at least.
It's nice to see that SafariLand's ALS holster has a reliable retention release (plus the release is in a smart and natural place). I'm coming over to the ALS from the ol' Serpa, and I'm happy to see it won't be slowing me down on my (stressed) draw. For the record, the Serpa hasn't ever broken my trust or scared me, but I'm always (and have always been) meticulous about finger indexing on the draw - especially fast draws...that's where I've seen evidence of danger. Anyway, thanks for the video.
Also practice firing as soon as your gun clears the holster, and continuing as you raise and level barrel up. A lot of encounters start at arms length, by pushing and shoving and pulling, so if your aware, you can push off your attacker with your weak arm as you step back and draw with gun hand, at that close of a range if you practice this your first shot should be trunk height with next 2 or 3 shots climbing up to chest and stopping, you need to be back pedaling to gain distance and to stay out of perps arm reach. If they are this close a one handed shot might be all the time you have to get gun out before bad guy can close and grab you. A bullet to the groin, or the surprise of the explosion might buy the time needed to create distance so you can get into a 2 handed stance. So if you are far enough away, by all means thrust gun out amd find front sight as your sending rounds at the perp. But also practice drawing and firing at someone within arms reach of you, and a round to the nuts will buy you a needed second or two to get into a proper grip and stance to end the threat hopefully. If not exucute plan b, run like forest and don't stop or look back...
In close qtr combat you should never be thinking of survival. You should only be thinking of attack. Also, as soon as you pull the trigger you should lower your gun to chest height & do an eye sweep for other targets. This is extremely important. Every instructor is ignoring it. I spent over 30 yrs fighting counter intel people. I am still alive. I have had to take on 3 to 4 assailants at a time. Besides the video for begginers, make a video for people who need advance training. People need to practise for multiple shooters.
Love the videos and the podcast guys. Not sure if I'm asking the wrong kind of question for this type of training situation, but shouldn't this be done from a conceal holster as it would be in a real life situation?
For demonstrations it can be done from a myriad of positions. Something often not discussed is each position is relevant, how many people practice drawing from there night stand, or their vehicle, its all relevant. In this case for demonstrations its from overt carry.
Take that as a warning... today 'law enforcement' considers Americans the enemy . The oath means nothing . Govern yourself accordingly , better to be judged by twelve than carried by six . They don't show mercy or compassion , women , children , pets , in the back , no matter .
I’ve recently started trying similar drills, but rather than using an open carry and starting with my hand on the gun, I use my IWB rig, concealed, and start with my arms crossed or at my sides. I’m just getting under 1.5 seconds. But if I skip the sights and point shoot I can get my first shot in center mass in about 1 second or so. From 25 feet. Not yards lol!
Mike, a question for you - do you sacrifice grip pressure for your speed? I’m a USPSA shooter, and I have been trying to get my draw time lower, but I have a hard time landing my best grip, applying full grip strength, and still getting a sub second draw. Should I land my grip first, present the firearm, and then vice down? Or do you apply full grip strength before extension? Is this something I just need to keep practicing to get the feel of? Thank you. Keep fighting the good fight.
