MDF Kerf Bending L-Ported Subwoofer Box + Paint and Carpet

- Опубліковано 21 чер 2021
- Here's the conclusion from the last video where it shows the Thiele-small parameter data and dimensions of the Lightning Lab 2XL dual 2 Ohm 1000w RMS subwoofer. This time, we will design and build a box that is able to output its maximum on full tilt without compromising the resonance tuning and overall enclosure bandwidth range of sub frequencies. To achieve all that, we need to crunch the numbers on the drawing table, the Bass Box 6 Pro.
I put a little effort by showing the computation and design calculation on the software a little longer than the usual. You will see I inputted a box frequency of 40Hz in a preferred enclosure dimension and you might think that this is a little bit high for a 12" beefy subwoofer. It is because Bass Box Pro 6 actual system tuning is always less than -4 to -6Hz. You will also see the wonders of BB6P on its many features such us vent sizing, port air velocity, system impedance chart, cone displacement graph, power to output graph and many other cool things in designing and building car subwoofer boxes using the awesome software!
Once again you will see how we used the carpet seam notch technique. The technique used to hide and glue carpet seams seamlessly clean and sharp. And as the usual we used high quality high tensile machine Allen head bolts in securing the sub on the double MDF baffle. Pretty solid!
And as the usual, we use our trusty little Dayton Audio DATS v3 in verifying actual system impedance and tuning. Turns out, the subwoofer box is tuned at 34Hz full tilt.
For those who are interested in copying the enclosure dimensions, here's the link to the TinkerCad schematics - www.tinkercad.com/things/73XN...
We would like to acknowledge our fellow UA-camr "E Dud" / @edud8452 - for pointing out very similar subwoofer products to this Lightning Lab 2XL against different known expensive brands like the following:
- DD Audio 9912b (ESP) "The Beast"
- SoundQubed HDS3.2 Series Subwoofer
- American Bass Hawk 12
- Category 7 CSW12-1K XMAX
- Rock Series RKS-12
So I think that is all for now and let us everyone know what you think about our latest episode today by commenting. Catch up in the next few days for I will upload the BASS test video! So be sure to subscribe and be excellent, be cool, be awesome
Nicely done, sir. I liked all the little details you added.
Thank you kindly!
Truly a work of art! Beautiful box homie.
Thanks a many, Grizz
Hi there, I built a 10" Kerf after watching your video, works better than expected, but now all my house vibrates when watching movies. I installed a 1000 watts Hivi subwoofer.

ang ganda sir 😮
Great work
Thanks AAH
I've seen many box building videos, and let me tell you that It's a good thing that you know what you're doing, not everyone does that. Instead of building a "nice looking box" 'cause it'll look pretty, you are building a nice looking box that SOUNDS as it is supposed to sound. On the other hand, I know tha the "best" union is just with glue and clamps, but if you were aiming at covering it up with fabric, maybe some screws wouldn't do any harm. I'm not a fan of nails.... The waves inside de box are very aggressive at the power you showed on the video.
Tremendo genio, saludos desde argentina 🇦🇷🇦🇷
Thanks Valen
U always make beauty with beast. Thank u sir.

Ang sarap siguro sa pakiramdam kapag natapos mo na yung ganyang project mo at narinig mo na yung tunog nya

Bend the MDF "OUT" so its like sliced fruit when applying glue. It allows more to enter the slots creating a stronger curve
Try it, and you will become popular in your area.

Hi Charcoal, really cute francie, anyway I've noticed you never install any crossover or low pass filter, what do you recommend?? Great job you rocks!
Thanks Andrea, amplifiers already has built-in crossovers.
Awesome build!! Would this work for a Sundown Audio X12 V2? If so is there any way i could get a build sheet??? Thank you!

Can you tell me which computer program was used?
What program do you recommend to build a custom middle console ?
BassBox Pro 6
At 2:51 u got a yellow template for doing circles. Can u tell me the model or from where to get it? Thx and nice work 💪💪
Hello Dario, you can search for "jasper router circle jig". They also make generics but with the same quality as the originals. Available virtually anywhere online marketplaces.
Boss tag pila ang 2xl 12” imong napalot karun?????
Exelente
Wow almost the same tag sukat s boxx boss. Ang kaso naka aero port lng ko.. pla ka hz ang boz boss? D nako ma apasan ang editing. Anyway ang akoa 38hz …
You directly screw tapping screws while installing sub? No pre drilling? What's that app what's technology in that? How it find resonance frequency without even playing sub?
Self tapping screws? You need to watch the video because I used Allen head machine bolts into T nuts.
Speaker enclosure design software need not to hear the speaker since theile-small parameter data are measured and provided.
@@chrclmnky...T nuts have been around for decades. Practical for many applications.

Wood is up 3 times the cost after Biden here in America. I hope I don't need lumber for anything any time soon. Great build. Beautiful!
What about MDF, costs skyrocketed too?
Each sheet cost about $27 here in the Philippines.
The wood prices were going up before Biden became President. Im not a fan of Biden nor Trump.....The National Association of Home Builders shows that since mid-April of 2020, lumber prices have risen by 130%,
@@letsgonow5641 oh that's too high.
@@chrclmnky Yea its been like that for over the last 18 mos. Before you could get a sheet here for like $20

@@chrclmnky also love the box i just had someone make one for me cuz i no longer have space to run a saw or store them for that matter(apt livin sux👎) but i miss the process of creating something from ur mind to a physical object ....its amazing
Very nice. What kind of carpet did you use for this one?
Thanks. Just a common charcoal black speaker carpet.
@@chrclmnky I stole your design style for own box :P White with black paint dots.
Looks nice with 2 JL TW1 12's.
@@RSx94 nice. Good job
do you have any videos that actually explain the box design process or even the modeling? I have been boulding enclosures for awhile and want to get into kerf but it’s hard to find solid info. I have term pro but wish I would have bought bassboxpro instead as it looks more useful once you know how to use it. i have tried to use sketch up but I feel like the program you use is better. sorry so many questions but I’m interested in learning some of these methods
Sorry josh no videos that has explaining because english is not my very best language. Any software will do, once you get the proper volume and calculations to what you desire for your box, you're all good.
Carpentry is just cutting and building the box you've designed.
@@chrclmnky I get that and do pretty well for what I know. My main curiosity would be the kerf cuts and how you figure out how many cuts you need along that length of kerf. I understand you can choose the radius and make anything work but I’d like to know what your rule of thumb is. thanks for the reply. Love your videos and enclosures 👍
@@joshuastewart4734 i usually cut 12 kerfs using 10mm apart. 6th or 7th kerf is the middle for the corner should be.
When building box with kerfed port, i cut the kerfed baffle first so if there is a few milimeter off, i just have to taken account on the other board to not waste what has been cut so far.
@@chrclmnky last question…what kind of wood do you used?
Perfect👍💯👏
