Underwater sci-fi is one of the most criminally under-used genres of fiction ever, and I hope LEGO brings another Aquazone/Aqua Raiders/Atlantis-esque line back someday
yeah cause its hard as hell to film. It would have been much more popular in modern fiction if it was easier to use in live action franchises. I think it was quite a bit more popular in books, back in the day. But totally agree, its a shame, so much potential!
@@RoachDoggJr2112 Christ on a cracker, you're not wrong -_- I highkey hate the fact that I live in a world where, for example, no pirate movie is allowed to exist outside of PotC, no dinosaur movie is allowed to exist outside of Jurassic Park, etc. EVERYTHING nowadays must be part of this or that licensed IP. On of my favorite themes. It's not official, but I consider this an honorary space theme. We could just say it's set in Europa's oceans or some other world
I’m definitely in the camp that sees this as at least a space-adjacent theme, if not full-blown space. Love the idea of it taking place on some distant world. Also, I’m a big fan of LEGO rewind. You’re one of the people that got me back into nostalgic LEGO, so thank you! 🙏
Early Aquazone was my first (and still favourite) series, I was 6 when my dad got me the Crystal explorer sub (and helped me build it), I got a few other smaller aquanauts sets and most of the aquasharks and later raiders and stringrays. I love the chrome harpoons, kinves, and crystals, the claws and magnet boxes. And the just designs of the subs themselves were fantastic, they were really unique at the time (and still today). It wasn't an external IP, or homage to popular media (like the Adventurers). Most of all, I think I love Aquazone the most because of the memories of building the sets with my dad, I miss him.
Love your videos and production values. Super quality stuff. It's always a blast to revisit 90s Lego, and Aquazone was one of my favorites. Keep up the great work!
Lego underwater themes have always appealed to me. Just yesterday I received the set 6555: Sea Hunter. It's a Town: Divers set, not Aquanauts, but the aesthetics of the entire mid-late 90s Underwater catalog cannot be matched.
I bought that set with my own money in 1995. I will always remember the weight of the the box in my arms. As I was walking to the registers, the box was wider than me in my extended arms and my chin on top of it. I still have this set. Nothing could have made me get rid of it.
Thank you for this video❤ At 41years old i stil have the aquanauts badge, compass and red antennas. As a child i had the neptune discovery lab. To this day, if i use the antennas for a build, i always think of the great times i had with the aquanauts❤
One of the metrics I rate my old sets by is how much my niece likes to play with them. The Neptune Discovery Lab and the Aero Tube Hangar are her favourites. The Neptune Lab has such good play features! And such nice colour scheme too.
After the Adventurer's Egypt theme Aquazone is my all time favorite. I have a few Stingrays and Hydronauts, but no Aquanauts or Aquasharks. I really hope someday Lego rerelease something from this theme. I would love to see a CMF of any of Aquazone subtheme like they did with the Space themes this year.
Sadly, I don’t know if Aquazone ever reached the iconic status of LEGO space, but I would LOVE to see some form of revival for this great, underrated theme.
What a pleasant surprise of a video, im so excited! I always love underwear LEGO themes Aquazone always lurked below my depths. I've only ever owned a handful from each faction, and I hope one day to have more experience in hand, especially on the Aquanauts, Hydronauts and Stingrays
The weekly release on Sunday morning was a happy accident that just kinda settled that way. Glad it’s a lift on the weekend! Just so you know, this coming week will like be a mid-week release, since there are some exciting new releases I want to take a look at. 👍
Great video! The Crystal Explorer Sub is an all-time great Lego set. The Crystal Crawler also had a variant that came with a large “crystal” blue rocky baseplate. It wasn’t super practical in terms of the Lego system but it was fun to roll the crawler across. Nostalgia is funny, I did not remember how few minifgs were in this theme, nor how few shiny crystals were available!
Thank you! I did briefly note the playscape that came with the Crystal Crawler variant, but was a bit bummed I didn't have one to show. I love those weird little inclusions they bundled with some sets in the 90s.
Good job there buddy! I personally never had any sets from the original aquazone theme, but I had plenty from its direct successor, Aquaraiders from 2007. This is probably due to the fact that I was built in 1995, so thus these old themes were often a wee bit before my Lego Building Days! Anyways, good job, and may the bricks be with you! Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
I really hope you get to talking about the Aqua Sharks at some point. NGL, I wasn’t even born yet when they discontinued the auquanauts theme. But I remember going to the Mall of America LEGO store in the early 2000s (before they remodeled it) and I just remember this giant Aqua Sharks sub near the entrance near Camp Snoopy (what’s now the Nickelodeon park). I always thought that sub was the coolest thing ever and I still remember when I finally got one off eBay when I was 14… it’s funny though, how aquanauts kinda was and wasn’t a part of my childhood. Also, in all honesty I absolutely love the fact that this UA-cam channel exists!
One of my favorite themes, the very first underwater one, own all Aquanauts and Auasharks sets and slowly aiming to get some Stingrays, wish Lego made some remake or at least some anniversary set for adults like they did with Castle, Space or Pirates
Oh man, your Neptune Discovery Lab footage is so good. I was wondering whether you'd be able to capture it, since the promotional materials really don't do this one justice.
3:00 i never thought of the headband having a letter c on the top of it, but rather thought it was a latch to hold the headband in place similar to a belt buckle, but softer.
I was one of those lucky kids that had the Aquanauts base 😉 Tragically one day either my sister or myself hit it with a ball and I never fully rebuilt it since, I'm not sure if there were some pieces missing (unlikely, where would they have gone?) or I just never felt like it. I did use the base plates and the watch tower however together with some street base plates as a massive (albeit absolutely empty) underwater base for my Gungan sub and the OG Luke's landspeeder (which was a sub as well in that scenario lol)
I still keep so many of those pieces all together in a large box, although at this point you won't build a full set. :{ I am so fond of those baseplates, still.
I heard from another commenter that Aquanaut 1 was referred to as “Jock Clouseau” in some LEGO publications of the day. However the current cataloging doesn’t give any of the crew names.
The Paravane / underwater scooter you have has one 3x1 slopes. It has one 3x2 slope in the original set (at least the boxed one I have ) Great ranks though
..i stole number 3 from The Warehouse shop 1998 in New Zealand 🇳🇿 think i gave it to the neighbors kid ..i stole about 25 beast wars transformers also 😂
90s lego was something else.. i've spent literally hours looking at these sets in catalogs as a kid..
From this LEGO fan’s perspective, it’s the best decade LEGO history.

I quite agree! Strange how this hasn’t seen a significant revival yet.

Unless Star Wars or some other Disney property decides to do something like that, don't count on it.

This was the first theme I completed my collection for as an adult. Always dreamed about the base as a kid!
There’s something to be said for themes with a modest set count. Makes them easy and satisfying to collect!
those magnetized containers with crystals will always have a special place in my heart!

Aqua sharks is one of my favorite themes of Lego and I can't wait for you to do that
That’ll be showing up in October!
@@keltondavisLEGO let’s go
My favorite Lego theme in childhood 💛
I've got all Aquazone sets with boxes (and all Aquasharks)
Ooh! Quite the collection!
I owned the Discovery Lab as a child. Absoluteley loved the set and the theme itself.
I knew of the set as a kid, but never had it. I’m not sure the marketing really got across how big and awesome that set was.

I cannot wait to see your ranking of Aquasharks :)
Coming in the next few weeks!
Quality video! Didn’t have many of these when they were on the shelves - but I do love the yellow color scheme!
The yellow against the blue backdrops was always very visually appealing to me. Love it!
I jad the sea sprint 9 as a kid! Perhaps a small sub, but lots of fun, especially with that articulated arm
It’s one of those perfect sweet spot sets. Small, but fun.
AWESOME!
Thanks! M-Tron was among the sets I borrowed from Alex, so it’s on its way!

That certainly does seem overdue! If the enthusiastic comments on this video are any indication, there’s a market for it.
Oh man, your Neptune Discovery Lab footage is so good. I was wondering whether you'd be able to capture it, since the promotional materials really don't do this one justice.
Seeing how we both fawned over it after you finished building, I knew it needed to have its due on camera 😂
Your channel is going to end up being very expensive for me. 😆
By the way, the swimming animation also looks great.
What a great channel, I recently got into Lego Castle and would love to hear you talk about any era of it really!
Thank you! I’m definitely going to cover Castle. Just trying to pick which part of the massive elephant I want to eat first.
that octopus is iconic
Right up there with the classic shark!
3:00 i never thought of the headband having a letter c on the top of it, but rather thought it was a latch to hold the headband in place similar to a belt buckle, but softer.
Interesting! So cool how we can all interpret things differently. I always imagined his name must’ve started with a C 😂

That’s the wonder of Lego. It can always become something else!
The mini with the C headband is named Jock Clouseau! I think his name was only mentioned in Lego Magazine and possibly catalog descriptions
Awesome tidbit! That’s half the reason I mentioned it. I was hoping someone like you could enlighten us. Thank you! 🙏
wow great job. almost like lego rock raiders
There are definitely similarities! Just no rock monsters 😂
i don't actually have any Aquanauts but may have to change that after this video! I'm also thinking grabbing incomplete sets may be fun for space MOCs
There are some that even consider Aquazone to be a space theme, since the technology is remarkably similar.
