  • Welcome back to another day on the farm as we dive into the behind-the-scenes action of day 13 of our potato harvest! It’s a full and busy day as we keep the operation running smoothly from dawn till dusk. We start by giving our harvester a much-needed service to ensure it’s ready for the long hours ahead. A well-maintained machine is the backbone of a successful harvest, and today is no exception!
    Next, we take a moment for something special: replacing our old flag with a brand-new one on a fresh flagpole. It’s a bit of a tradition, and this marks the last time we’ll do it this season. A simple, yet meaningful way to honor the hard work that’s gone into this year’s harvest.
    With the harvester ready and the flag flying high, we head out into the field to chop the vines. This crucial step clears the way for the harvester to come through and dig the potatoes. As always, timing is key in making sure everything lines up perfectly, so we stay focused to get the vines chopped just right.
    Once that’s done, we jump into the harvester and get to work, pulling potatoes from the earth, row after row. The rhythm of the harvest is intense, but satisfying, as each pass of the machine means more potatoes heading toward the cellar.
    Speaking of cellars, next up we head over to move our equipment, moving potatoes between different cellars to keep everything organized and ready for storage. Moving millions of pounds of potatoes is no small task, but it’s part of the job!
    After the cellar work is done, it’s back to the fields for more harvesting as the day continues. It’s non-stop action, with every moment bringing us closer to finishing this massive harvest. From fieldwork to equipment maintenance, and everything in between, this is what it takes to get potatoes from the ground to the cellar.
    Join me for a full day of farming as we give you a close-up look at the hard work and dedication that goes into a successful potato harvest. Make sure to hit that like button, share your thoughts in the comments, and subscribe to Rocky Mountain Farmer for more real-life farming content straight from the fields!

    You must have Variable Frequency Druves on that piler, that's why they always run in the proper direction while the hyd pump always needs to be rephased

    As you said like a flash pole on a jeep. How about at the truck store like you would attach to a back rack on a pickup.

    With only a week left of harvest, do you celebrate with family and workers with a BBQ. If you do, it would make a good video.

      We grow the russet Ranger and yes, we have always oiled with the PTO on. Makes it way easier as long as you’re careful it’s just fine

    You mentioned that the potatoes are perfect for making french fries. I can well imagine... Though it also makes me wonder who/which ones are your biggest customers i.e. what are your potatoes used for/by? A plant making french fries? Who/what else?

    I've got to ask what size of sack of taters do you gauge your crop by 10lb sacks 50lb sacks ton sacks here we measure potatoes by the barrel per acre is only way I can gauge crop but we have had many old generations in last couple hundred years use different names then you guys out west hasn't been 50lb jute bags loaded on rail cars and sent to England in last 80 years from this farm and don't think they have dug with two row digger and picked in baskets and barreled them dumped them in potato houses then bagged them put them in rail cars in last 60 years but we still use barrels in our measurements lol keep up the good work letting world know where their food comes from

      That’s interesting. I guess everybody has their own way of measuring. Ours is 100 pound sack.

    If your harvest went on into cold weather how cold does it have to get before it damages the potatoes in the ground?

    You would think a wood flag pole would withstand a little breeze. Add to it you used duct tape! How could the wood break?

    I think a spray nozzle would work better than a stream nozzle for the chain lubrication.

    • @alfredomarotta6604
      @alfredomarotta6604 2 години тому +3

      With the stream he has the reach, and stops from waisting from getting all over. My 2 cents 😊
