At 2.21 of the video: "It's not about learning more, but learning less and training more."...excellent quote and one that everyone serious about training this stuff should take on board.
I’ve been waiting for your thoughts on knife hand strikes, great stuff as always! Btw, I like a mix of palms, chops, elbows and clothesline/forearm strikes. Always a great education with Mr. Drossos.
@@anonymousgentleman1124 Absolutely. Do think the myths came from nowhere? Look at an anatomical diagram of the human nervous system. Most of the nerves going to the brain are there in the neck area. A good karate chop there will disrupt the brain's connection to the body and will likely result in *instantaneous* unconsciousness.
Believe it or not I agree with the karate aspect that the karate aspect is wrong. Cause it is to telegraphical. And im in karate I should know. I was say do it the the way they reach u in karate to get an idea of how to use your power and then change it up to non telegraphical. Step in high cross block lean on your right leg to parry then come in with knifehand tech/karate chop. Its step in. Cross block. Parry. Karate chop. Dont forget to step in to get an effective strike to the neck.
thats why it is rarely shown anymore in hollywood films, so people do not imitate. With this blow a total beginner without big strenghth or fighting skill can knock out or kill a strong man instantly.
As you demonstrate in this video, your fingers are open. How if we using closed fists? I mean instead of chop, we do hammer fist. Instead palm strike with finger straight up, we close the fingers like fist but still striking using palm. Is it still give same destructive result like open fingers?
John Wick (A Fiction of course) seemed like the best application I’ve seen in awhile. He wasn’t leading with these strikes. He was using them after using grappling to get in close or when someone’s arms were out of range to strike him/their soft tissue spots were vulnerable. You won’t break your hand if they can’t get out of the way (if you have their back)(if you have them against a wall/floor where they can’t really roll out of the position) (they’re off balance)
Thanks for the video as always man and they definitely work. I’ve always had people tell karate chops are bullshit but sorry, a strike to that side of the neck will kill.
John Ashiru the problem I've always had with chops is I have to change the way I hold my hands. Its a finishing move really. I try to keep my strikes simple and brutal. No fancy karate or kung fu stuff. But if you fight openhanded...
Nah I’m the same way in a fight. I like to keep things direct simply and brutal. I don’t really believe in fancy movements like throwing a tornado or a spin kick early. Open hand strikes however I totally agree with. Quick palm strikes with the lead and rear hand or slipping a punch and going for the nose, that kind of stuff.
1: As a trainer you should also tell your students about the possible injurys and long lasting damiges that could cause. Its also good to know when to use it. You titeled it as "first strike" witch is dangerous as in many countrys this would turn you into the attacker or even guilty of Manslaugther. In Germany, selfdefense is only allowed if the threat of harm (for you of another person) can not be avoided. In such a case there are multiple forms of Selfdefense: inappropriate and appropriate. inappropriate Selfdefense being one where the attack/force used is grater then the threat or injurys that could be done by the attacker. In this case a Karate Chop is depending on the situation and the injurys caused by it. As its a unarmed attack, its can be used in all situations. Witch might give you a fine up to 1000+ euro. (depending if the attacker had a weapon and how bad the injury is) Seeing as the attack causes the attacker to go Unconscious. It can cause long lasting neural damage or even death. Should the attacker die. (again depending on if he had a weapon) the best that can happen for you is fine. The worst that could happen is "Fahrlässiger Mord" Negligent Manslaughter witch while not nessecarly causing you to go to jail. Certenly comes with a heavy fine and is put on your Police Racord. (Witch can be requested by your Employer if you work in Hospitals, elderly care, in schools and with children)
Take off your shirt and block the knife with it. Wearing it won't protect you, but rolling it around your hand will. OR Use any longer-range tool like a belt. A belt has metal part, aim for the nose, it hurts. OR if you're good with both hands, you could pull out your wallet, open it and grab the knife with it. But I only saw this one work in a fictional story, haha. I tried it and the knife slipped away.
Hey Nick, your videos are awesome and it helped me sometimes. But how do I defend myself against someone who'd already in position to fight. Because maybe I won't be me to strike first. Would love to see a video or hear your tips about it. A little bit about my martial arts background: I used to practice Judo for 2 years and it taught me some great basics. I also practice jiu Jitsu. So as it gets to wrestling I'll probably win. But I'm quite tall so nobody gets the balls to wrestle. So how can I come in on a guy with a good block?
Grab their hair and pulk it to one side then chop to the neck.I usually paw for the eyes to judge distance and disguise my overhand left but if i can grab some hair or an ear...
Karate Chops definitely works in a street fight. A single chop to the throat is fatal. Not everything in Karate is useless. Approximately 38% of what you learned in Karate is useful. The other 62% is BULL 💩
Christian Thomsen I happen to have earned a 3rd degree black belt in TANG SOO DO and a black belt in BRAZILIAN JIUJITSU. Prior to my 8 professional fights, I won first place 🥇 in a lot of local tournaments so yeah I had a terrible instructor.

When I used to train, that neck chop would put someone down with substantially less force, just a quick Pop would put a guy down
I feel like he was taking his anger out at the same tim-
Are you Lds?
use only in a really dangerous situation where several persons attack you and you cannot escape
it's all about repetition.... true, so true
I knocked someone out with strike's before,
I knocked someone out with a top of the head slap

The fact is this is the easiest/dangerous/dirtiest way to knock someone out. Please use it only in extreme sitaution and never do it as a joke.

How is this dirty? Unless you are in a ring nothing is dirty when you are fighting to protect yourself or others.
I liked your job man

after one hard chop the fight is over and you run from the police because the guy will be severely injured or dead if the chop was really hard
or stunned for 5 minutes
..... stop teaching people bullshit.
This technique it's used a lot in Ninjutsu
That's right lesson 10 jumping from a tree , then chop your enemy down. 😉
Hell your opponent is slow 😂😂
Would you not rather punch? If you miss or they duck would you not break the side of your hand more easily when you don’t have a fist

John Ashiru Im thinking about opening up my lead hand and leaving the power hand closed.
Dug That worked for me. Kept the lead hand open and in his face... obstructing his view.. followed up by shots with the closed rear fist

I don’t see why not!
I can do 7 set's of 100000 karate chops,
My sister is not moving, help me!
Of course it works, Karate was build for fight and tested, its not a video thing
apparently thats an extremely dangerous thing to do.
That is true, my Sabumnim was very forceful conveying the message it could be deadly.
Bro I hurt my fingers like all my knuckles pushed against each other inside my hand. I knew I should've just stuck to hammer fists
Greatness 💯
Hey Nick,
Can you do a video on how 2 people can disarm a man with a knife?
Impossible. Even a 16 year old boy with a long sharp knife cannot be disarmed. Run! ....unless you have a loaded gun and are prepared to use it.
Take off your shirt and block the knife with it. Wearing it won't protect you, but rolling it around your hand will.
