The Air 2S flies miles at the salt flats until it’s out of battery. There’s no interference at the salt flats. The battery is the limit on every drone there.
Signal strength is amazing..Impressive drone. Can't wait to fly this bird lol.. Nice range test Billy the most safe and effective range test i've EVER watched.
Super cool you were able to do this test in a place like that, but also glad I’m not the only person who spent the entire video wondering why you ran it at top speed, which dramatically decreases battery life. DJI’s figures are based on mid-speed around 19mph. All forms of motion require exponentially more energy as you increase speeds.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but complete signal loss at the very end was likely due to the curvature of the earth. Once you descended to a certain altitude, there was a planet between you and the drone. I hate when that happens! Great video! Perfect location to run this test! While the battery life isn’t enough for the range, it opens up the possibility of hop-scotching the drone. If there’s a pilot at the end of the first leg (predetermined landing point), they can change battery, takeover using another paired controller, and: A. Fly the drone back to you. B. Fly the drone to a farther waypoint, with a 3rd pilot/battery on-site. Rinse and repeat. Theoretically, one could circumnavigate the globe so long as there are “refueling” stations, and a new pilot to launch for the next leg. Sounds like something DJI and Red Bull would sponsor. Boats on the water would be required at some waypoints. I’m in!
I cant get enough of Drone Range tests!! This one in particular Billy is very entertaining! Usually its hard to get your viewers completely focus on the entire content however you did a great jog here! DJI- No Drone in the market comes close to the flight tech, & features! Best of the best despite some small limitations (battery life) Billy- please do more range tests like these (as you stated in the video) you keep finding these breathtaking amazing locations great job!
The drone is flying at 109 ft. The earth curvature at 58000 ft is around 92ft. I know it's not that far from 109 but still you have 17ft which is about 5ft plus the height of the drone guy, let's say 3 feet, so 20 ft - that's like a two-storey building. That's enough for the drone to have the signal unless the terrain is not that flat (not talking about the curvature), like it goes up and down, then you'd be right.
@IdleWorker Why wouldn't you just continue to use your controllers on the drones you purchased the fucking things for? There's zero gain using an O4 controller on an O3 done.
Minimal incremental updates. They've gone full Apple. I like DJI, but they're stagnant compared to 2018. SKydio and Autel are catching up and I can't wait for this competition. It'll get dji's head out from its ass.
Range test on a salt flats is OK to promote a feature that doesn't exist in the real world. I recently flew a Matrice 300 where we lost RC signal at 1.2 km. We left it on the launch platform and drove a vehicle away. Once we were beyond BVLOS we lost signal. Shortest LOS was 550m, furthest was 1.2km
awesome job love how you guys did the test! I just received mine yesterday had a chance to test it out and it is just so amazing how this thing fly's i was in 20mph winds and had no issues! Taking it out again tonight to try the low light capabilities cant wait!
Next time you do this I’d recommend increasing the altitude quite a bit more as the curve of the earth could slope up. It probably isn’t enough to make a difference but when you hit that hard disconnect on the way down I’m assuming that’s what it was.
Absolutely bang on with that comment, at 12 miles the drone needs to be approximately 97ft up to achieve clear line of sight with the controller and the link seems to cut out at about 95ft!
Please compare the Noise levels of Air 3, Mini 3 Pro, Air 2S and Mavic 3 Cine. That should be interesting for someone who gets annoyed by the noise of these drones and the attention they receive whenever they go up in the air 😉😎
Daaaaaaaamn. This is as usual coming from you Billy, very informative, great seeing where OcuSync has came in term of its performance from one to now. Now you know flying in an urban environment will be this much better 🙏🏾
Great video and amazing scenery! A few observations: - This is a great location for a repeatable range test but important to mention: the flats, with little-to-no radio interference certainly represents a "best case" range test - perhaps somewhat mitigated by the altitude. It certainly goes a long way to demonstrate battery is going to limit range in most cases. - When the right turn is executed at about 10mi the the antennas are directed in a less ideal bearing to the pilot which probably explains the corresponding signal degradation. In the end the battery was the limiting factor so this is a minor point.
Great test Billy. You could have even squeezed out a little more range by flying a little slower like at maybe 25 mph and a little higher as you said. But great test, epic drone
Hi Billy, I think that the curvature of the earth may have been coming into play. Would be interesting to see what the responce would be at 400 ft AGL. Best Regards, John
Do the same test in Normal mode and 300ft height. You will get further then that. Dont use recording or gimbal up and down, just in a straight line.. you will get 14 miles.
Wondered about the direction of your controllers antennas. You changed the drones direction slightly before you started losing the signal. I looked at the bottom of your screen to see if the radar was showing the direction of your flight compared to the direction of the controller. The radar was not turned on. If you were pointed slightly to the side the signal might have been reduced slightly. If it was and you turned to point directly at the drone I wondered if you might have reached a longer distance (if the battery held up).
Do that test again, but have your buddy in the Tesla take along a second battery. Try starting again with the fresh battery. If you can connect and get it in the air, fly out the last two miles to hit the 12-mile mark and see if you can keep a connection. You may have to take it up a couple hundred feet. See if you can make it back to the van on that second battery.
If you were flying in Normal mode you would have gotten at least a minimum of 20 000 feet more out from the battery. Dustin Dunnill did a 81 000 feet round trip with the Air 3. Sport mode really drains the battery much much faster. At 55% battery he was at 40 000 feet and at 55% battery you were at 26 000 feet..... you just don't do range tests in sport mode...
I had thought they approved binoculars & not electronic VO assistance. I might have missed a lesson update from my CBO. I agree it looks safe but 5:50 is where your crew meets why I had thought it was only the binocular change. Binoculars can see if you elevate them to clear the horizon so the test would be extra legal if you has a bino-guy/or-gal.
This was the best range test I have seen yet because it wasn't out and back. It was straight up range. What did you do to prevent RTH? Also, what is the maximum range that you can launch your drone at a distance. It would have been interesting to see your spotters put a new battery in and see if it would launch back up from that distance and fly back. Also, how far did the chaser drone get? Cheers!
Great video. Great test. Thanks so much. I just got the Air 3 with the RC-N2 controller - It is amazing. I use my 12.9 inch iPad Pro as the screen :). I also have the Mini 3 Pro and I started on the Mini 2. The Air 3 is definitely worth upgrading to.
imagine a video receiver hub for 4 O4 cameras, one on a drone, and three on helmets during an airsoft game. All cameras would be synchronized with the receiving hub. This Hub would have 4 Gigabit Ethernet outputs, allowing IP Cam in real time. for an operator to be on his computer and broadcast by changing the layout of the 4 cameras and a map with their positions... that would have been crazy. even with a range of 1 km with obstacles.
Well, 3000ft is actually not beyong visual line of sight. That'd be fine with me too. As for a range test I'd say the signal loss started at 50.000ft and got critical approaching 60k ft. Not enough for one charge of the battery if returing the drone back home safely. As a result it's only half that range.
If you check out Dustin Dunnills Air 3 range test you will see he made it out 7.75 miles and returned with 6% battery. So he got 15.5 miles total while you only got 11 miles total. But he was going out at 26mph while you were going 37mph. I think that may be the difference.
Thanx for the video and the effort. It was amazing to see the improvements in the area. One advise, though. Switch to the metric system already, so you won't have to make those illogical stupid conversions between feet and miles. You know1km=1000 meters. Now, won't that make life easier?
40 plus minute flights and incredible range.. 42 hopurs of flight time on 3 bats and no degradation.. The battery charger feature another huge feature!
Wow, very cool, Billy! Now the salt flats would be an excellent location for a range test. You did an excellent job in producing this range test legally! Nicely Done!
Great location for the test. I recommend you perform this test again, but fly in Normal mode at around 26-28 mph. The test will take longer, but you will achieve better overall battery range & a more realistic sense of how far the battery can go at the more reasonable speed. Flying maxed out in sport mode is like driving your car with your foot pegged to the floor.
Nice test, you could easily have pushed this further by 1) going to 400ft altitude, and by 2) starting the flight (taking off) maybe 3-4 miles downrange. Then the battery shouldn't have been limiting you, only signal. Of course, in no way would that represent any typical real life use either, but I think you already crossed that line in this test 😂 Good job!
Awesome video and analysis. I know it's hard to produce all of this material, but you know, next time have a spare battery so the people in the car can switch battery and see if you can fly further away. And also a secondary cammera :D . I really enjoyed your video, the entire video. It has been a long time since I wasn't so amazed looking a drone analysis, you made it funny !😃
Don’t think it’ll make much of a difference. They’re already past the point where the signal at 100+ft up was breaking up, so replacing the battery at ground level, would it even be able to reconnect? I’d say this is pretty conclusive🙂
I had this thought the other day after seeing this video. When the drone was brought down due to battery depletion, you were at 124' in height at 57,995' out. I wonder if you 're-fueled' with a new battery at like 30,000' out(if you could still take off) and headed out again. This time at 400' in height. I think you'd get to 70,000' easy.
Greetings Kyle First of all wants to ask about your math skill 🤣🤣. This presentation is actually awesome to show of the distance that this drone cover, but I really like to see in a real work environment with all those antenna and frequencies around it. This is a must is you can show to us. Thanks. Your videos are grate ever
Hello Billy, DJI claims that the Air 3 battery lasts for about 46 minutes. Is this claim true, while its battery capacity is not much higher than that of the Air 2S? How many minutes does the battery last in video record mode in 4K 60 fps mode? Please do a battery test in different video recording modes and make a clip. thanks for wonderful videos
I would love to see a more realistic test comparing OcuSync 0.4 vs 0.3+ in the city or suburbs. How much better is 0.4 where most of us fly our drones? Also, will DJI push OcuSync 0.4 update to the RC Pro or are they going to drop a new RC Pro 2 controller?🤔
Great test Billy. Please what location is this? And I want to point out that you should have conducted the test in normal mode, that way the battery consumption would be efficient giving you a longer flight time and would also enable you to fly further
Hi Billy. Would it be possible to have raw footage of pictures and video between the air 3 and mavic 3 classic of the same location. I need a better drone than my mini 3 pro and I can’t make my mind between those 2. Cheers
I'm still flying thr mini 2 and still loving it. I mainly fly betaflight quads. But I'm starting to get into photography a bit more. And although the mini 2 is more than adequate for my abilities I'd really like a lossless zoom for wildlife photography
Hey Billy. You should have done this test in some areas with more interference than that place. There's no buildings, no phone calls, it´s a flat salted place. Are you going to try that test in some other areas?
The Air 2S flies miles at the salt flats until it’s out of battery. There’s no interference at the salt flats. The battery is the limit on every drone there.
Air 2s can fly out the same distance as the Air 3?
@@InvincibleStormFilmshardly…🤣
@@Al-Kwadrone maybe it can.
@@InvincibleStormFilmsIt can't, less battery and slower speed so that math just does not add up!
@@InvincibleStormFilms Nope, it can't. I was in the city and it had MUCH better penetration than the Air 2s. It was even better than the Mavic 3.

Dustin Dunnill did a range test in N-mode and got 40000ft and back on 5% battery left!
Yeah I saw that....great vid too...

Great range test, this drone went where no drone has gone before. I loved the location, very impressive results. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing Range Test, Billy. The best ever. Awesome location too. Wow you all did a great job. Kudos to you all. Well done!!!

I think you may have lost signal at the end because you lost line-of-sight with the drone due to the earth's curvature.

PERFECT place for THIS test Billy. Well done!..
Can you pair 2 controllers (master and slave) like it was possible on first Ocusync?
VO is not a replacement for the RPIC maintaining VLOS
Normal or medium mode at max is the most efficient speed, and is what rth uses
Been watching a lot of vids but after seeing this can't wait to get mine in the air if it ever stops raining.
Do the same test in Normal mode and 300ft height. You will get further then that.
Dont use recording or gimbal up and down, just in a straight line.. you will get 14 miles.
Great job Billy!…the proper way to to a range test with visual observers!
… not really.
Given the curvature of the earth, isn’t it possible to lose line of sight signal? 12 miles is quite a ways.
You are correct, we want to see the screen recording, but you keep it minimized
When you produce the video you can maxim it
When you're going longer distances to get better signal u can lower your antenna pointing at the drone rather than straight up.

Awesome I can't wait to watch this video even though I do not have a DJI product.
I still fly my

Hi Billy. Would it be possible to have raw footage of pictures and video between the air 3 and mavic 3 classic of the same location. I need a better drone than my mini 3 pro and I can’t make my mind between those 2. Cheers
Hi, Billy. What's the battery life on the new DJI RC-2? I haven't heard anything about that yet. Thanks you for the video!
Hey, I got the Air 3 but can't find any information about how to activate the cruise control. Can you give me a hint?
Excellent Billy.
I'm still flying thr mini 2 and still loving it. I mainly fly betaflight quads. But I'm starting to get into photography a bit more. And although the mini 2 is more than adequate for my abilities I'd really like a lossless zoom for wildlife photography
Nice of Charley Kirk for doing the voice over🤙
Hey Billy. You should have done this test in some areas with more interference than that place. There's no buildings, no phone calls, it´s a flat salted place. Are you going to try that test in some other areas?
