The tragedy for South Africa is that he focused too much on Africa's problems which took him out of the country for long periods. This allowed Zuma to slip in behind his back. Which is the major cause of South Africa's problems today. Mbeki had an ideal opportunity to continue with Mandela's vision of bringing the country together, which he missed.

the African Union is no longer relevant and will actually slow down African countries abilities to address their common issues at the global stage. I am in favor of a new organization that will work in parallel with the African Union but that will not take any mandate from it, that organization will be in charge to elect the country who should represent Africa as permanent member of the UNSC with veto power (for a period of 4 years-renewable** as an incentive of performance**). Its the BEST SOLUTION THAT COULD BE ACHIEVED TODAY WITH A MAXIMUM CHANCE OF APPROVAL BY A MAJORITY OF AFRICAN STATES.
