I think this would be a great beginner game for an experienced DM to bring to a table of mixed experience players. You're absolutely right, it does take a strong GM to make this work but the potential to tell a truly great story about humans in a post-humanity world is great!
As a 100% solo player, I love that Free League is so focused on catering to this audience. I think a lot of people sleep on solo RPGing. It provides an experience that you cannot get as a player or GM in a group game.
Another trustworthy review Jeff, and another beautiful, mechanically interesting adaptation of Stålenhag from Free League. Maia Wilson recorded an excellent podcast of playing _The Electric State_ called "The Electric State: The Path To Dawn".
I love Stalenhag's work, but it certainly isn't for everyone. It's always possible to adapt the setting to other rulesets, but I like the fact that there are different games for different players...
Definitely want to check this one out. Love Stålenhag's art. And I loved Tales from the Loop. I just hope this isn't sent out to die like Things from the Flood. As much as I hated living through the 90s, I still find this interesting.
I love dude's art, I just find it a bit of a letdown when there's a narrative attached if that makes sense. Exploring the mood in an RPG makes a bit more sense if everything isn't nailed down and has to be a certain way... Like can I imagine just pulling out one of those artbooks and having a generic modern setting be informed by random pages, just like you might do with encounters in a traditional fantasy setting.

Thank you Jeff! Great review as always. I'm a walking-nostalgic kind of guy and the 90's were my "Stranger Things" so, I'm picking it up.
Thanks, Jeff - looks cool. Love the artwork!

I honestly don't know what kind of support we'll see for this in the future. ~ Jeff

Lighter than Tales from the Loop? 😮
