1:07 Love Simon's work, but if this is gonna be another show, they need a MUCH better Production Team. Writing to Acting, that last one was dopey (Jonathan Pryce excepted, of course).
Yeah, the Tales from the Loop series wasn't firing on all cylinders. I don't know if it was a matter of budget or a conscious choice (though I'm thinking budget), but there wasn't nearly enough of the sci-fi elements to it. Everything seemed so ... subdued, like they didn't want to really lean into the potential of the book. Maybe they thought they'd have another season or two to get into those things (and a bigger budget to implement them) but it ended up being pretty meh.
@@kennewquist2218 It didn't look terrible, so I don't think it was the budget, really. I'm blaming an inexperienced Showrunner, obviously in way over his head. "Nathaniel Halpern is the creator, executive producer, showrunner, and sole writer for the series." Jeez. He had only really written on "Legion" before this, then he promoted himself to Super-Auteur, so how could this NOT be his fault, almost entirely? :\
@FonceFalooda2 Ah. I didn't realize the background. I can see that makes sense. When I was thinking budget, I was thinking of some of the bigger scifi-ish elements, like the huge mag-level freighters, which would have helped reinforce the setting as being the 80s that never was. Or more chance encounters (dinosaurs anyone?) with things that escaped from the Loop. Those seem like things that would be harder to pull off on a series budget, and easy to cut if you were looking to save $$$. But I'm basing this on zero actual knowledge of the budget and/or production; it'd be sadder if there was budget, but it was eliminated for aesthetic reasons. So ... we'll see how The Electric State goes. I doubt budget will be a problem for the Russos.
Nice review
Thanks! Looking forward to digging into it more fully.

@@kennewquist2218 Wait, the Russos are doing it?!! The "Infinity War" Russos or the "Citadel" Russos? ;)
