This totally reminded me of perhaps my favorite coffee table book that I had when I was a kid in the early 80’s - my great aunt gave it to me for some reason, and I treasured it. I don’t know what ever happened to it, but I haven’t seen it since about 1992 or so. It was a collection of classic covers (aaahh, alliteration, how I love thee!) from the sci-fi pulps from the 30’s to their end, I suppose. It had reprints of the covers of Amazing Stories, Weird Tales, and several others- many showing the first appearance of stories by Lovecraft, Derleth, Bloch, etc, and a page of text opposite the cover explaining the artist, the story that the cover represented, the date of publication, and other information. It had maybe 100 or so entries, and while I didn’t really care about the info at first (I was only a little kid), I loved the weird sci-fi art. As I got a little older, I read all of the info which I had finally become interested in, and would frequently just flip through it to get inspiration for drawing, etc. It was published by Del Rey, as far as I remember, and I would seriously cut off a toe or a pinky finger just to have it again! If anyone else remembers that book, let me know! On another note, I recently watched a video on another UA-cam channel that featured that “David’s Drawings” book- I had forgotten about it until seeing this, so thanks! I’m definitely going to see if I can get a copy of that one- it’s beautiful, and the art is fantastic. Thanks again, and Happy New Year to all!
It is. His art is very evocative of a world so similar to ours, with just a small twist. If you're in to that kind of thing, you should check out "Tales from the Loop", a Tabletop RPG based on his art.
Unfortunately no, if i recall they just said it was a straightforward build. Just a lot of standard pipe fittings and wood. I presume you'd have to sketch out what kind of layout you want and make sure to take measurements so you do the correct spacing for your stuff :)
Fantastic collection. Two of my favourites are the "Art of Infinity War" and the "Art of Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse". Both beautiful books, filled with gorgeous images and insightful stories.
Definitely get onto Simon Stalenhag. Disturbingly dark narrative. Just enough in each painting so you can make your own story. Get Tales from the Loop and Things From The Flood RPGs :)
I just ordered The Electric State, the theme of robots in the world and the art style both look really good. I'd never seen it before so thinks for the video that led me to it.
Just like last year (Art of Mondo/Atari) I couldnt wait for those 2018 coffee table books - Type of SciFi and The Electric State have just been ordered. Thank you Norm
‘Tales from the Loop’ is fantastic as well. There’s an art book and a table top roleplay book based on it (the RPG is great, but unless you’re a gamer, go for the art book)
Quite a good selection of books. Also would like to see some more books that you bought. As a book lover I know how many books one can buy over the course of one year
The world still needs a coffee table book about coffee tables, which turns into a small coffee table. One a side note, these all look awesome, but I already own way too many books...can I swing by for coffee and look through yours?
Great video Norm! It's been a pleasure to see your presenting skills grow and grow over the years.

God damn it norm , I literally want all of these now ..
David’s Drawings looks interesting.
The production and design details of Alien Covenant were much better than the resulting story and film.
The Electric State looks like an interesting one.

Always wanted to get my hands on David‘s drawings after you did the video on set, so stoked that I‘m now able to!
