@1010bree Possibly, or just other names. Freyr is also called Yngve Freyr which means "Lord" (Freyr) of the Sanctuary (ve) of Ing (not sure what that means)". As to Rosmerta it is actually not rose/muerta but "ro" (great) and "smerta" (provider)

Fascinating. I am a poet, not a scholar,so I will express my admiration by pretentiously quoting myself "Ravens on my shoulders, wolves at my wrists,I wander the world with one eye that sees All"Have you ever read "Watch the North wind Rise"by Robert Graves? I conceive of Odin as a man who underwent the Shamanic Ordeal,9 days,9 nights on the windy tree.Similar to Sitting Bull, who fell from the bone hooks of the Sun Dance.1/2 past human, mortal but achieving Power and Sight. The labrys was a Goddess symbol and the Sun Dance was circular and ended in a fall to Vision...

@MrVicaxe Yes, in the final stages of proofreading now. But then comes the publishing bit, which may also take a while. I am thinking of publishing it as an e-book to begin with, I heard many people find that medium acceptable. The title will be "The Odin Mysteries".

Odin and his two brothers are the supreme universal being as trinity mind body and soul. The universe is fractal as above so below. You see this repeated at every level. Aesir - spirit , Vanir - mind, juotens - body. The Giants are portrayed negatively because in the esoteric teachings the body is the material world and its the negative world to overcome . Then again on the level of men Elves, man , dwarves Spirit Mind Body.

I appreciate your work. This motif of two tribes of divine origin fighting and also interbreeding is common to all indo european derived pagan spiritualities. So I'm kind of torn on this topic.

Thank you for a very interesting talk.
I think you are right about the sun being central in the cult and mythology of the norse. It's an interesting thought that brisingamen, Frejas necklace, could represent the visible sun disc. In that sense Freja would them represent the light, heat and growing power of the sun and it would also make sense to see her sibling Brother, Frej, as the fertility of the land and the happiness it produces, as this comes from the sun.
Your talk made me think of the names of the week days, which are deeply pagan.
To my knowledge great effort was made to get rid of them after christianity was introduced. It think they succeded in Iceland, but not in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and England, so the resistance against these efforts must have been significant.
Anyway, we have the work days after the 4/5 gods, Tyr, Odin, Thor and Frej/Freja followed by "washing day", the suns' day and the moon's say. In Sweden the still call the weekend "the holy period" - helg - and we did so as well in Denmark until 50 years or so. I don't know about you in Norway but I suppose you have the same word as well.
To me it underlines the idea of the sun as being the central focus of worship in norse heathendom, with the gods as a kind of priests, lovers or protectors.
I have always thought of saturday "the washing day" as a pragmatic reminder of the need to clean up the mess and wash at least once a week, but your talk made me think of me experiences some years ago in the Amazon with a shamanistic ayahuasca ritual. The process was that when we had made an agreement with the shaman we were to faste and wash for a day before going to the shaman in the evening where we would drink the ayahuasca and and begin the ritual. Next morning we would go see the sun rise and relax the following day. There might be a possible parallel here to the norse way.
By the way, the same division of the week days seem to be present in the French language as well, where you have lundi (moon's day), mardi (the day of mars - the war god = tyr), mercredi (mercury's day god of coomunication, travel and trade), jeudi (jupiter's day - god of thunder and lightning = Thor), vendredi (venus day - godess of love and beauty = Freja), samedi (sabbat day - similar to a washing day) and dimanche (day of the lord - the sun if the above is correct).
So two questions spring to my mind:
    1) What is the importance and role of the moon in the norse mythology and
    2) is the order and names of the week days and the mythology connected to a norse astronomy - after all they had the ability to see some of the planets as well. In this sence I find it interesting that the planet Mercury, symbolising the god Mercury/Odin is the closest to the sun and we could even ask the question if the then knew that the planets circle the sun...

    Troy=Capital of old Thracia.
Thracians are described as being excelent sea fearers in Iliad and Odyssey.
In today Bulgaria and Turkey where Thracia was, there is no tradition about seafaring.Which shows a massive migration of thracians from here.
Also the thracians are described as being red haired and with blue eyes. From what I know, the vikings also were red haired and blue eyes,a lot of them.
David Faux made a study which propose that R1a1 norse matches more asian R1a1 than R1a1 european.

@AtheistDefender I am not jumping to conclusions about these matters myself (axe-hammer, spear-odin)- I am, as I clearly state in the video, referring to conclusions made by H.S Davidson and P. Gelling, one a renowned historian on the subject and the other a renowned archaeologist, and I think their conclusions are interesting and deserve to be mentioned. Then I move on to more certain knowledge such as the Wodan-Rosmerta complex. So I did not make that connection myself, but I do refer to it.

@MrVicaxe Not knowing you and all the circumstances, I can only reply generally. I think that rites in themselves are not as important as the deeper meaning and quest. Maybe there is something hidden away in your private underworld - what we today would call subconscious - that is working within and causing problems. I dont think you should worry about language although modern languages are pretty empty compared to the old ways of speaking and it is good to learn for your own sake.

What is the connections of the Illyrians and the vikings?

    • @wolfgang4043
      @wolfgang4043 4 роки тому +1

      Greetings!
As a decendant of the "Illyrian" tribes, who didn't call themselves that - they were mostly known under that name because of the Romans who simplified everything and were lousy historians - I can only say that there is no written evidence for the contact of the two because those, listed under the name "Illyrians" came earlier in the history books.
      But.
Considering the fact that the trade during the Bronze Age and before in Europe was really flourishing, I believe they had rich trading contacts. Most of those, now listed under the name "Venetians", "Raetii", "Illyrians", "Liburnians", "Taurisci", "Iapodes", "Histrians", "Carni" "Norici", etc. were actually of Venetic origin. They were spread throughout Europe (look up the Venetic theory). The genetic research shows they were in the British Islands, Ireland, France, Balcany, Germany, Southern Scandinavia... Well... Everywhere.
Any place or name, containing a "Vin", "Win", Vend", "Wind", "Windish", "Wendish" etc. is of Venetic origin.
We know about the Venetic vikings.
East Goths were Venetic and West Goths were Germanic.
So. There was the common ancestry. And, probably a lot of trade. The Venetic nations are the oldest, besides Basks. That is a thing everybody forgets. The war god of the Venets was called "Vodin". It means "Leader" ( from the verb "voditi", to lead.) The similarities between a Venetic language, such as Slovene (NOT Slovak) and Old Norse are astonishing. Slovene, as Old Norse, also has dual. And many other similar trades.
Also, the Venetic writing is a form of runic writing. And it can be translated by Slovene language.
      Yes, we were connected.
      We still are.

@AtheistDefender No that is ok, obviously I would not have taken the time to mention these theories in a talk of this kind if I did not think them likely to hold some truth. I understand you are perhaps wanting something more like an academic dispute with in-depth discussions about the theories whereas I am applying a more popularly accessible genre to my talks which may easily come off as less critical. My intention is not to glorify though, but to point out possible scenarios.

god and godesses have been described only in the ricent 500 years. there were no such consepts before.
    Aesir and Venir symbolyse ages
    Venir were free roaming age
    Aesir is the slavery age
All of it is ver subjective.
In reality none of it means anything but a reflection of what makes up the dialectic construct of modern civilization
Its like when the Age of Aesir came about then the teachings took place
Venir age had nothing todo with teaching.
Its like Venir age never recorded itself
