Any games you'd like to see in the future? Just leave a comment and I'll see if I get around to it.
I write these bad boys from memory, either directly after playing, or while playing. But sometimes it takes a while to get around to recording, so I forget how to pronounce some names and junk, so mb
To be honest I never expected there would be a fanbase of this game, I hope this game reaches everywhere, the beautiful soundtracks, weird ass story plotlines we don't know where and why characters don't really have full story behind and at the same time satisfying end of the game.
The Nintendo Direct with Octopia was where I first heard of it. It also helped that there was a Game Trials week that followed that Direct, for the base game.
Some of the best pixel music out there
I use the ost to sleep to. It works wonders
That's a good attempt at trying to explain the story. I really wanted to love the game but I ended up giving up at Solomon's funeral. If only they had figured out a coherent story, it would've been an all time great. At least I know I didn't miss out on too much.
Yeah it got super confusing once the monkey train happened. It was really good until then. I think it wrapped up nicely and still liked it overall, but definitely hope their next game is more coherent
Gave Up, I Destroyed This Entire Game In Less Then A Month 🤣
I was juuust about to drop the game at that point too, but turns out that last part of the game is the best, I really enjoyed it, but the first half of the game didn't caught me tbh.
My favorite parts were when you laughed in the middle of explaining the more ridiculous things haha. I like this video! :3
the timing of this upload and the direct is insane
Wait did they announce something??
@@HandsomeMain yea, eastward octopia for winter 2023! There’s a trailer
@ppek0770 oh dope I forgot about direct gunna go check it out
@@ppek0770 Yo that actually looks really dope, wish it was a separate game but still wanna check it out
I played it... It was great
Awesome video dude. Never rlly seen an explained video for eastward and this one is nice and concise
TBF its a tough one to explain
Great video! Never really understood Sam’s origins. Makes sense now. The new DC is coming out soon and I’m super looking my forward to it! I absolutely loved this game. Thinking about playing it again.
One of my favorite pixel games for sure. Not really a fan of the second half but definitely going to replay the game when I check out the dlc. Still kinda wish it was it's own thing
@@HandsomeMain Definitely with ya there, but it kinda adds to the indie charm in my opinion!
I really really wanted to love this game. I’m a huge fan of the Mother series. The story just fell to pieces once you hit Monkhollywood. It started so strong, though. The artwork, music, and story is all there in the first half. Enjoyed that part, but it’s hard to recommend when the ending is so jumbled. The atmosphere is just decimated at times by sudden tone shifts. It badly needs polish in that department.
Ya I'm sure most of my like for the game comes from the aesthetic. Still looking forward to what the team does next tho, as long as they can take longer in the plot department
I just finised it and felt like i didn't trully understand it so came here to watch hahaha still don't understand some things, and I feel like others are not given the importance it needs in the game in order to make it make sense. also the end feels lacking :( still I really liked it, especially all the pixel art, it's amazing. thanks for the vid!
Ya I really liked the game but once they leave new dam city it became pretty strange. Overall premise was cool tho so I hope they make another ip in the future (also wish we could've skipped the dam cooking animation after the tenth time)
Always found it weird how the game just breezed past John finding Sam, and how the Mayor knew about Charon and Miasma - yet we were led to believe neither existed right after. And then… they were real? The plotline is such a headache I can’t lie
Yeah I think a lot of key plot moments were in the devs heads but they forgot to put it in the game. A lot to love behind a whole lot more confusion
The pacing of this game was pretty off, I’m pretty sure we the audience knew that Charon and miasma was real pretty soon after finding out the mayor was calling a normal train Charon in order to maintain political power
Hope this game will have new episodes or more DLCs
I don't think it will beyond the farming sim it did, i'd honestly rather the team do another game tbh
Just finished Eastward. Really enjoyed it, but the story was a little confusing. I didn't get the whole train with monkeys making movies part lol. Weird.
Ya I think everyone can agree that it falls apart once you get there, but the ending was still dope
I couldn’t stop chuckling with you when you were explaining how the time loop was destroyed 🤣
I played this game on and off over a year, and didnt think the story was that bad cause id forget bits each time i took a break. Putting it all together, oof the story really does go off the rails and loses direction. I still like it though, its a beautiful game. Its the characters and environments really sell it for me. Next game they make hopefully the story is a bit more structurally sound 😅
Ya I haven't taken the time to really look into them but I can only assume after the first half of the game they went into rush mode.
That was the most coherent interpretation of the ending ever.
low bar
If the DLC / standalone title picks up from the ending of the main quest, then they go farming.
I wonder what the continuation will do for the story, it can't be just farming right, there has to be world-ending stakes again. Any loose ends the main plot hasn't tied up? It seems they're all resolved (except for the origins of the suspicious new Sam/Mother clone...)
I've only seen it the one time, but it looked like a farming Sim taking place before the second half, which is why I wished it was just a separate game, but maybe I'm wrong
@@HandsomeMain despite calling it “DLC” the Direct gave me the impression it was a standalone expansion but I could be wrong.
Story wise, would be disappointed if Octopia turned out to be an “interquel” (though upon rewatching the trailer, John doesn’t look like in the ending so I am set up for disappointment). I’d rather it to be after the ending and I would like to see how John and “New Sam” get to know each other and stuff…
the official website discribes it has a paralel universe, where there is no miasma so Sam and John settle and make a life.
@@Emi_Alvarez kinda disappointed it ain't a story expansion... but it is what it is.
crack theory...
Writers: we need more time to cook
Devs/Artists: go on vacation
Wrriters: I know, let's do a barely canon filler arc while we figure this shiz out
Devs/Artists: back from vacation
@@malcovich_games yeah i figured the same, a dlc to buy time till a proper sequel or new tittle comes out.
By the way the dlc octopia released tomorrow, would like to hear your thoughts later on, from what ive heard its different type of gameplay where basically its farming and i think im buying it!
Ya im still confused on what this'll be but I'm definitely going to check it out
This Game Was Absolutely Amazing 🤩
This game should be a big hit
Thanks. I really liked the art, music, writing, story… but damn the gameplay and combat became tedious quickly. I sadquit instead of ragequit. But this video helped me to detach 😭 I think the depressing ending might have made me even sadder than sad-quitting tho
I really liked the art and music. The biggest turnoffs for me were when you'd have to sit through the song animation every time you cook as john, and them showing that John was actually talking and they just didn't show the dialogue. Seemed like they could've made him actually mute or had him be a bigger character. Either way, looking forward to what the team does next
@@HandsomeMain Yeah! I know they were sort of rushed with this game, and almost didn't make it at all--I bet they learned a ton. I'm definitely looking forward to their next game.
Thank you for the story.
For all its promise, I just couldn't get into Eastward, badly paced story, dialogue and very basic gameplay. Glad to just understand the story
one of the best indie games
the problem is there are kinda lots of cut scene to read lel
I actually really like having a lot of dialogue in games, my problem was that it all stopped being coherant for a big chunk after the second city lol
Thanks for the explanation, and i honestly agree this game is really confusing and really is a slog, i hate the game because of how sloggy it is but i still like it desite the hate lol weird, just like the story 😂
Ya I dont remember much of the second half but I really liked the first and I also still like John and Sam despite the lack of growth the pair actually had lmao
This game was really good tho
Ya I liked the game and hope they make another. Just found the story got really confusing after the first half
I thought sam was a boy
ouch
