- Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the West of the risk of nuclear war if it sends troops to fight in Ukraine. During an annual parliamentary address, he said Moscow had weapons that could hit Western targets.

He’s literally just stating that things could escalate to the point of a nuclear war- he’s not stating that Russia would be the ones to first threaten the use of nukes but that they are prepared for things to escalate to that level between countries.

The us can not easily wage a conventional war against russia and if you talking about conventional missile strikes well guess what? Russia is not a casualty adverse culture where as western countries are. Russia and the US can absorb such damage but no side is invading the other. Such an undertaking especially so far from home means supplies and equipment must be deployed. How long did it take the US to eject iraq from kuwait? It was months lf prep... nearly a year actually and such an undertaking cannot be hidden.

Seems as if Russia and Putin are taking the same approach towards Western powers, as those Western powers did to the Russians and/or the USSR in the days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which took place under the President John F Kennedy, the 35th President of The United States of America.
John F Kennedy warned USSR to turn their ships around, and they did. That relieved a lot of tension between the Kennedy Administration and the Russian Officlals and/or Kremlin.
The approach Kennedy took, regarding his speech and/or rhetoric, was the same as it is here. Putin has always been unpredictable. That is not a compliment. It is the truth. If Western countries accept to pursue a war of attrition combined with harsh sanctions against Russia, it is hoped that by 2030 Russia's economy, finance, and military will decline sharply. This left Russia without enough resources to defend its vast territory, leading to Russia's autonomous regions forming new states. A smaller Russia with a smaller population than today would ensure lasting peace for Europe.
France would be hard pressed to get NATO troops in Ukraine when their citizens fled their homeland when the war began.
