    Nice little railway reminds me of the little 7 mile line I work on. Though we have one of the last remnants of a 200 mile interurban network that dates back to 1908. our line is all electric streetcars and interurban no diesel or steam, but we have a nice attraction for our selfs.

    A few miles away from fox field is the apedale valley light railway, although it is a short run we have the largest collection of industrial narrow gauge locos in the uk. If you were interested in visiting our gala is in May with the season opener in April.

      Been there each time for the Tracks to the Trenches event, nice little railway. I assume your working to get a carriage shed built next to your station building?

    Excellent video of what appears to be a lovely rural railway Will. If you're ever up in the Lake District, I thoroughly recommend the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. It's slightly longer at 3.2 miles with some stunning Lakeland scenery. Cameron

    That funnel on that steam engine at the 15:01 mark is exactly like the Giesel Ejector funnel that Peter Sam was given by the Fat Controller back in Season 4 of Thomas the Tank Engine. I also recall hearing about Bulleid 'Battle of Britain' Pacific No. 36064 'Fighter Command' being fitted with a Giesel Ejector.

    This is a really nice video. Even 3 years later i still love it! Also the locomotive you rode behind is called Florence no.2 just so you know.

    Did you see that the 0-6-0 has blind drivers? I never knew they did that on the prototype. I always assumed it was only for getting around sharp curves on a model train layout. How about that!

  • @Madnessofmusic
    @Madnessofmusic 9 років тому

    A few pointers;
    The reason why have no tender engines is because of the sharp bends on our line, thus, the wheel bases on the locomotives we can use is very restricted.
    The gradient is 1:18 the steepest working gradient in the U.K.
    The engine you were reading behind is called Florence no2, an 0-6-0 Bagnall engine built in the 50's.
    The "Hornby coach" is our recently completed North Staffordshire 1880 coach, we have a few more on the way to restoration.
    The crane is the only working steam crane in the world, affectionately known as Dubs, built in 1901.
    Bellerophon is one of the oldest steam engines in the world, built in 1874 by Haydock.
    Wimbulbury and Whiston are both 0-6-0 austerity engines.

    I think you might enjoy taking your self on a visit to the Bo'ness and kinneil railway in bo'ness Scotland I've been on it a countless number of times and it is quite enjoyable they also have a museum and a path around their yard. And a o gauge layout inside 2 old Swedish coaches.

    Good Video Will. Visited it in 2010. Just the same length. I think the intention is or was to carry on a very steep curve down to the closed coalmine but it might be too steep for passenger trains or H & S regulations.

    I think now the biggest loco or *thing* on the railway is a class 142 pacer number 142044, which was vandalised recently. If I'm honest my heart goes out to those who are restoring it but do we really NEED a preserved pacer?

      @7820 Dinmore Manor archive rubbish! Reliable yes but dreadfully uncomfortable. Don't passengers want to ride in comfort AND in style, not have some bus on a flatbed chassis. It looks ugly as well.

    Yeah it's true what we see coming out of the funnel if Water Vapor. Though I tend to call it steam since even if you can't see it it is technically the same water in a vaporized form. Still If a engine is being fired right that is mostly water coming out up there. You'd be surprised how clean they burned that coal.

    Interesting little line. I must try and visit it sometime when I am up in Staffordshire - although I will heed your warning and NOT wear white trainers!!! Apparently, the Bellerophon locomotive is one of the oldest working steam locomotives and has been on loan to the Foxfield Railway for some years so that it can be seen in its natural industrial environment.

    Signal was probably yellow because the train was approaching a buffer stop.

    • @motorheadmalc
      @motorheadmalc 6 років тому

      Correct, and if the buffer stop beam isn't red - although many are - it would have a red light on top, both of which act as stop signals permanently at danger. The stop signal preceding it can therefore only show a yellow or a red.

    This place reminds me of steamtown a mess of rails with a lot of unfinished projects and rail cars and engines needing bad restoration. And the is a rail speeder that small car. Sadly no steam trains ran since 2010 when the last still working engine flipped on its side and ran the rest of the day partly fixed and then at the closing of the event it was running they retired it from rail service after running none stop since 1984. It sits in the round house now due to it needs an entire boiler overhaul and they don't have the cranes to lift it from the wheels to do work plus it is a real cluttered mess everywhere and what you look.
