Imagine all the true followers of Dungeon Synth Archives would live in a town together... With a castle for sure and this album would be played inside it
I've been thinking about such genre since the very first experience of playing rpgs 15 years back ago, but it never occured to me that I can simply look for it by using the most logical combination of words (dungeon synth)...Thanks youtube, now I'm indulging in it
I am a slave, working myself to death for a tyrant in a quarry in a distant medieval land. Each swing of my pickaxe is answered with a whip lash on my back by a vile and sadistic guard. The scorching sun is peeling the skin off my flesh, and not a single drop of water is allowed to quench my thirst. It is here I was born. It is here I will die. For nobody ever leaves this dark and cursed land alive. This is what Old Tower makes me feel as I listen to their music.
I ve been quite disappointed from many dungeon synth releases lately but this one is wonderful. Melodic, atmospheric and appropriately lo fi. Congrats!
It's not bad but more people need to find these... Popshit have easily over 100mill mark.. Maybe this is the best for this genre.. Less fans less worries..
At dawn, you find yourself at the farthest edge of the castle ruins, where centuries-old stone lay in a crumbled pile of what used to be the north tower. As the sun's rays penetrate the treeline in the distance, through that old pineforest you'd had to trek through for two weeks in order to get here, all alone on your journey, where it was said that no man had trespassed for more than eight hundred years, you hear footsteps. You turn to face your master, the great troll himself, the only such being to humor the presence of humans -- and even then, only a select, lucky few at that. You shiver against the crisp autumn air, but he does not, seemingly unaffected by the elements. What the troll carries in his hands, then promptly sets down onto the old, weathered stone of the tower's remnants, is not the tome from yesterday -- no, this time, it's a synthesizer. You look up from the electronic device at your master, puzzled. He utters only two words in response to your expression: "Let's begin."
If you want to create a mysterious reveal or plot twist to your dialogues, you need to hear from 8:20 and up. Good luck, may the world's ground shake to the true meaning.
Мое знакомство с данным проектом произошло с альбома "the last eidolon" и я сразу же влюбился в этот чарующий звук. Этот альбом ничуть не сдает позиции и продолжает радовать. С удовольствием буду слушать остальные релизы :)
Really enjoying this. Maybe it's just me but I hear a little bit of Summoning in there (for the majestic horns) and some Midnight Odyssey (for that ethereal melancholy vibe).
This one sounds better than Født til å Herske, but it's normal considering that album was made 23 years before. So Old Tower invents nothing new, but this album is well crafted.
I got the cassette of this album, and on the inside of the little booklet/cover foldout it says: "All sorcery conducted in total solitude at the Lone Enclave by The Specter. All drawings and artwork designed by The Specter. Sorceries mastered by comrade Baron ?rch Malachi. Death to all traitors who fell prey to the False Heresy. These spells are dedicated to their inevitable destruction. For the coming Dark Age..." Edgy stuff. But a good album nonetheless.
you're using "literally" pretty liberally there. "All sorcery conducted in total solitude at the Lone Enclave", "Death to all traitors who fell prey to the false heresy. These spells are dedicated to their inevitable destruction. For the coming of the dark age..." this is all pretty damn edgy for a music album. If you don't think that's edgy, then that tells something about you, either that or our definitions differ from one another.
I can't be the only one who just discovered this genre and is now binge-ing the ever living fuck out of it.
Nope!! I’m brand new and loving every fuckin minute of it!

"Depressive Silence" and "Secret Stairways" remains the two best-ever ones, specially for newcomers :)

An exceptionally beautiful and haunting release--there's a reason why Old Tower is revered among Dungeon Synth fans.

Off the bat sounds like an isolated castle and village no contact with any other peopke. Though they are lonely, they are happy.
This is what dungeon synth is all about.
Fantasizing
A feeling of lonesomeness that cannot be purged.
Agreed. Dark ambient can be away of making peace with the abyss without going evil. It is forbidden because it is not happy and stupid.
I listen this music when I write my fantasy stories 🖤🖤
Sounds a lot like Født til å Herske, which is of course a good thing.
