    The reason this kit is well-engineered is because it's a copy (high grade as well) of the original TTE supercharger kit that was sold (and mounted) by European Lexus dealers before the IS300 was released in 2002.
    Designed and built originally by the same people who made the Toyota World Rally cars.
    They also made a Supercharged Corolla.
    FYI.

    • @plamennicolov
      @plamennicolov 4 роки тому +3

      Actually the only part that's the same between the TTE kit (actually designed by Bemani in Switzerland) and this one is the supercharger. Which is a Mercedes-Benz unit made by Eaton in the US. The rest of the kit was developed independently without a single measurement taken from the TTE/Bemani kit. And the aim was to make it fit better (for example the pipework on this kit doesn't require cutting several fan supports and the engine undertray like the TTE/Bemani one does), to be compatible with aftermarket manifolds which don't have the heat shield extensions (something impossible on the TTE kit without heavy modifications), to be capable of more power (by using all 6 ribs on the supercharger pulley compared to only the front 5 used on the TTE kits), having reasonable servicable parts (the bypass cable can be replaced by a bike cable for 2 quid, not a custom Bemani one for 200) and so on. Basically all parts of this kit were developed over the years with serious support from the Facebook DIY community. So it was more or less a group effort and wouldn't be possible without the large IS200 community. After TTE was dissolved as an entity and Bemani stopped supporting these cars, the community had to act. And this is the result of that group effort ;)

    If you have any issues with the bypass valve cable try a vacuum bypass actuaror of a l67, you would be able to use your valve body and just open it with the commodore actuator

    • @BennysCustomWorks
      @BennysCustomWorks  4 роки тому +1

      Lucas Taylor thanks :)

    • @plamennicolov
      @plamennicolov 4 роки тому +1

      On this setup this doesn't really work, because the vacuum actuation requires actual vacuum buildup in the manifold, which isn't linearly related to the throttle position. So when you lift off, there's a delay until the bypass opens, which is enough to load up the charger A LOT, causing extreme wear on the belts and even worse - very often triggering limp mode of the ECU. This is because there's a very fine line to keep the vacuum bypass open and when trying to drive at part throttle you're usually beyond that line, so the bypass snaps closed while the throttle is only partly open, pressure builds up and squeezes more air in the intake, causing the ECU to detect less vacuum than it expects at only partly open throttle, triggering a serious limp mode (probably to avoid hitting the limiter in case of a large vacuum leak, broken manifold etc.). So while a vacuum bypass is perfect for supercharged applications where the supercharger is after the throttle body, in this case where it's before it a vacuum one doesn't work at all. Been there, done that ;) This is why the complex cable system was developed...

    • @plamennicolov
      @plamennicolov 4 роки тому +3

      @@boosted_l6787 the bypass valve on this specific kit is a modified Mini Cooper S one, which is a vacuum actuated one. So it's a straight swap to the standard Mini vacuum bypass. The reason it's not used in the kit is that a vacuum bypass makes the car extremely dangerous to drive, since vacuum bypass valves are designed to be used in a different way. Before the cable conversion existed, practically everyone doing DIY setups on the IS200 used vacuum bypass valves. With lots of trouble. People had to adapt their driving style to a very non-intuitive behaviour, borderline deadly on a slippery surface. Lots of supercharged setups were abandoned because of this. The day the cable conversion hit the market the first batch was sold out in less than 24h. Things surely aren't like this on other cars and supercharger setups, but specificly on the 1G-FE vacuum bypasses don't really work well. It would be much easier if they did... It's either the cable actuated mechanical system or possibly a complex electronicly controlled one.

    Refrigerant notes:
    R134a is actually a bigger "greenhouse " gas than R12. R12 is an "Ozone depleter" (though not nearly as bad as they claimed . . . the whole thing had more to do with DuPont not having patent rights on R12 any more) not a greenhouse agent. It does break down into PFOA and that can be an issue, but again, less than they imply. 134a is worse than they imply, and long term effects are still not known for exposure. I knew a guy who worked in the plant that made 134a and was not happy with what they were told v. what methods they were using. Been years since I have chatted him up though.
    R134a turns poisonous when in fire. Don't use the old leak test of a propane torch and a hose used by old school R12 techs.

    Ozone layer damaging and greenhouse gas are two different things. R12 was damaging to the ozone layer which is why it was replaced by R134a - it was later discovered this was huge greenhouse gas and now we are replacing he gas again.
    TLDR - r134a is NOT greenhouse friendly which is why it’s illegal to vent it.

    Hi Benny! Thanks for your videos. Since we saw this, we decided to buy the kit and install it in my IS200 but we are finding some troubles in our way. Could you please let me know how to solve the problem of the compressor's hose obstructing the servodirection hose? We have done what the manual says facing it downwards but it still doesn't fit and blocks the direction fluid hose. We also have problems with the airbag sensor that hits the intercooler pipe. How and where can we place it?

      Hey mate, the supercharger would, intercooler piping may need modifications. Rank One may offer a direct fit kit for your car however

    Awosome install. I have my IS200 supercharged for daily and it is a ton of fun. Benny, what size pulley did you choose? Mine is a stock 130mm, paired to the stock 1G-FE injectors.

    Benny, Would you go a kit like this for a 3VZ-FE or would you go and seek a factory TRD kit that does away with the top plenum chamber and becomes the intake manifold with all associated vacuum fittings etc?

    The worst part is now the new air con gas is explosive so if you don't know what you are doing it can be messy.

    Would love to see if there is any difference slapping a pod filter straight on the supercharger compared to an effective cold air intake I suspect with the intercooler in place it wouldn't make any measureable difference in track times 🙂

    • @NBSV1
      @NBSV1 4 роки тому

      Kurt Palmer Less heat sucked in still means less heat blown out. With the intercooler, and the supercharger generating so much heat, the difference may be small. But, it’d still be best to have it pulling cool air instead of hot air.

      @@NBSV1 in theory and on paper yes but in the real world will it actually make a power and or fuel economy diffence and if it does I'm assuming you can just turn up the boost pressure to make up the density difference of the hotter air would be an interesting test 🙂

    Please consider gutting the cats in the manifold. Being a track driven IS200 owner myself, I killed the one of the front cats and it completely stuffed/melted the second one. Had to hunt down another manifold with another secondary cat, which was pretty expensive.
