  • Today, I did a 16 hour DIY Build of my Shopsmith Shorty for operating my Shopsmith accessory tools! I converted a broken Free Total Shop and a Free treadmill and made a DC variable speed shorty. I did the build in 16 hours and didn't spend anything on the project, just picked my boneyard and a off the roadside Treadmill. Sorry it was so long, but it takes a lot to edit 16 hours of footage into something short, LOL Enjoy, ask questions if you have any!!
For My Next Adventure, I am Trying Sean @scarmyguitars method, not sure what he calls it. But I am calling mine a Dug Out Acoustic, like a Canoe in the wilderness!! Using a Broken Fender Acoustic neck for the build, if I can figure out how!! I am completely Self Taught, and sometimes the results show just that. But sometimes, I get lucky and make something real cool. Hang around and see which one this turns out to be, LOL
But I am going on a quest!!
I have been accused of being a HIGH TECH REDNECK! It Fits!!

I drove an hour to pick up a free Mark V. I got there and it had no attachments or tools. The motor had been taken out of it and there was most of the spindle parts missing too. I almost loaded it up to take it home just for the frame and caster wheels but I'm too limited on space to be bringing anymore junk home. I hated to leave it there for the scrappers. If I would have thought about chopping it down I would have talked myself into dragging it home. There's plenty more out there. Widows clean out garages every day so I get one down the road.

I have seen several complete Shopsmith machines lately, 200 to 3800. But 7f uou shop right, for Grandpa's pile, and find it all still together buy it.
Does not matter if it runs, if it's there, it can be fixed and saved. I have 2 to sell right now.

That front panel makes it look like a power pro headstock. Nice job!

I love it! The bandsaws live on it and ready to go. The dc reverse is very cool. Thanks for watching, more Shop Smith videos coming soon starting back on guitar builds for the winter

I just ran across your channel. Love it when people are actually innovating and repurposing older tools!
