Hey Chaps! Would you switch to a projector??
(Use Code TECHCHAP100 for $100 Off)
Correction: It only has 1 speaker, not 2.
Not this projector. I’ve learned over the years that luminance is everything. 500 lumens (which is probably a lot less when measured) is nothing. These pico ‘lifestyle’ projectors are a rip off. If you really want a portable, ditch the gimmicky stuff and buy yourself a road warrior from Epson or Benq. Aka a business class portable projector. It will cost you a fraction of the price and give you usable light output and real functionality. Focusing and squaring a projector is not hard… those features are cute but add unnecessary cost to what is already a really compromised design.
Is there a projector worth switching to?
@@sage11x I have the BenQ x500i and love it. It only weighs 8 pounds, 4K, 1080P 240Hz 4ms lag, Around 2000 actual ANSI Lumens, 100" inch projection from only 5 Feet away, Lots of audio and video outputs, Perfect for movies and gaming. Only cons are a bit noisy in 4K mode and some rainbow effect if your sensitive to that. It's expensive but you get what you pay for.
About as big as you can get and still be considered portable.
You don't 'switch' to a projector unless you are going to spend A LOT of money and go with an ultra short throw projector AND invest in a spendy ALR screen.
You use projectors like this specifically for dark areas or night time use. TVs are for bright rooms.
I switched to projector in 2017. Not interested in this LG though. 120 inches is far too small.
Oh technology. Progress a little more slowly. Whatever I buy, a new thing will come tomorrow. I don't have any money anymore, my money is gone.
exactly, decided to pause for some years and i will buy something if it's broken and no fixable , improvements are very slow but at a higher cost

You can use the handle for controlling the angle of the view instead of the book you used. 😂
😂😂😂
It’s so cute! 🥹
This looks awesome!!!
How was your gaming experience regarding the input lag? Specially that GOW ragnarok on 120" looked amazing.
I'm still use LG projie PW600G, 600 ANSI since 2015. Although still 720p but coming with 1:100.000 contrast ratio still look okay.
excited for mobile projector tech!
Hello, does it have automatic obstacle avoidance?
What about Anker Nebula Capsule 3? How would you say that compares to this one?
that holder can also be used as astand, so you don’t need that book 😂😂
I think it’s unique being so small, 4k and laser. I think it looks great, cost aside. The battery issue can be half tackled by using a PD battery bank via the usb C port.
Really like the 120hz 1080p mode, didn’t know it could do that.
apparently not
according to the specs, it requires 65w power - which doesnt rule out your comment
but digging further down, the usb-c port is for input / charging out only at 5w / 1a - so to trickle charge a set of headphones or bluetooth speaker
no where in the spec does it say this unit supports power delivery through the usb-c port
@@Elkatook666 It's on the LG product page.
"External battery compatibility
You can use it outdoors by connecting an external battery to the USB Type-C port. "
This thing on the ceiling would be insane
I wonder what is the power usage comparison for something like this versus a 65 inch flat panel TV.
looks classic industrial design looks the part only thing as you mentioned if the lumens were better like 1500 to 2000 and had a external battery arrangement along with hdmi ports and better sound this would have rocked.......nice to see👍
Your reviews are always interesting, well paced and presented. Ever thought of doing it for a living? 😂
Nah, too stressful! Thanks though!
that looks like a neat projector... hope you enjoyed clarkson and the boys😂😂
I love top gear/grand tour.. but i got bored half way through!
One downside of the Halo+ is that you can't correct the keystone in gaming mode, so you have to position/range it pefectly - I wonder if this projector allows for that?
I love your videos but can you please include some disclaimer in them to state whether the devices have been sent by the manufacturer and whether or not there has been any sponsorship etc. I think it's very important that you are as transparent as possible. Your channel has awesome quality content so doing the right thing as far as transparency goes will earn you life long subscribers.
Yep - this was provided as a review sample. The video is NOT sponsored, and LG don't get to preview any of the content before it goes live. Hope that helps :)
It's a DC Power port yes? So I could just get a 12V - DC power cable and plug into a 12V kings portable battery?
Any recommendations for a 4K for half the price? This is too expensive.
Nebula Capsule 3 is reasonably price, if 1080p and 300 lumen is enough. For evening movie and tv serie, not an issue, with battery build-in.
I've owned one for over a year and love it.
Hello! I'm about to decide if I buy this nice tiny piece of technology as it fits with what I need (projections from a bed/couch in a dark / dimmed environment). Portability, Auto-Keystone, Resolution and Contrast (0.47'' chip compared to the 0.23'' chip most portable projectors have) are the key decision drivers compared to other portable projectors on the market with better brightness (Halo+, Mars III Air, PicoPix Max TV).
No battery is a shame but not a no-go (external bank will do it), more Lumens would have been great but I guess this will be for the next version(s) of this new series. Thankfully I've got a good sound system at home so the small speaker of this projector shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The only question mark is about the video game input lag: was it OK when you played? Any measurement? I couldn't find the info regarding this aspect on LG's website or anywhere else.
Cheers!
And ur room is suitable ? I mean u need around 12 feet to get 120 inch ! Don’t go smaller than 120 if it’s projector
I would have been interested in the size of the power supply as it can affect portability…
What about upcoming Xgimi Horizon Max vs BenQ W5800 ?
It seems good value to me, reasonable price.
Hey do you know what projection tech that this projector use? If it's dlp, then what size of chip it's using?
I'm disappointed on its brightness, only 500 ansi although it uses 3 laser channels as the light source, which is one of the best tech for enhancing brightness.
Anyway, its design is awesome but the quality will be down a bit because of its brightness, also I wonder how good is its sound as with small size comes with less bass.
Yeah, 500 ANS Lumens eventhough it's triple laser light source is still dim compared to the standard. I almost bought this but that brightness output put me off.
What racing game was shown? it looked like a NASCAR race?
We have a roof deck. Been considering a halfway decent portable projector for movie nights. This might be too expensive.
One thing that was not included in the video which I think should be included in every projector review is what kind of image technology it uses. Yes, it’s laser, but that’s only the light source. As for the imaging device, I suppose it uses a DLP chip? In that case, is it a single laser light source with a color wheel, or is it a triple laser light source without color wheel? How does the projector actually achieve 4K? Does it use a 1920x1080 0.47” DMD chip combined with XPR pixel shifting to achieve a 3840x2160 resolution? (I suppose it does, since true 4K imaging chips is impossible to manufacture at this price point.) Can it do 120 Hz in 4K mode as well, or is that only in 1080p mode?
Most DLP projectors in this price range only do 60 Hz at pixel shifted 4K, and can only achieve refresh rates higher than 60 Hz if they are being fed with a 1080p signal (which disables the XPR).
It would have been nice to see some more detailed info regarding these things. Great video otherwise, and thanks for the review.
Can you make a video of competitor projectors of this form?
I'll have a think about it!
if they
-would limit it to 1080p/full hd (if possible while retaining the HDR support for downscaled 4K HDR sources)
-make it a little bit bigger (form factor) and hopefully therefore brighter (lumen) at the same time
-make it drastically cheaper 600-700€
… i wouldn‘t think about it and buy it as a secondary/portable projector.
Imo I dont see the necessity for 4k/HDR for such a small portable projector (at least not in the next five years), e.g. for watching a movie at friends house who dont have a projector or playing something like mario kart
do you know you can use the handle to tilt it up instead of that book?
came here to say the same thing... USE THE FRIGGIN' HANDLE to tilt it
500 lumens.. ouch
Yes, but it's mobile. I don't know a battery projector that would have a bigger ANSI
@@kaffkak5852 anker nebula mars 3 is 1000 lumen
@@kaffkak5852this particular projector does not have an internal battery. It needs to be plugged in.
I would assume that you would save some money on your electricity bill, because people like me with a 75 inch TV. The monthly bill is crazy.
Will the handle not flip around and prop it up instead of the book?
The first though that i had when i saw the release video. And im pretty sure that it was made for that and the manual would say it.
Hah.. yes. I never even thought of that 🙃
@@Thetechchap how did you review this product for 10 minutes and not think of that?
good for camping
Is there anything more affordable for 4k? I feel like native 4k projectors are always $1500 or more.
Is it good with 3d
When you say metallic finish, you mean plastics - right? I got an offer 200 € less and leather case preordering this but I have not found a reason that justifies the expense. Playing games and watching soccer would been, but those are either behind a paywall or streaming limitations … so … guess not for that plastic chassis.
It’d be great to see you review the BenQ HT2060, as it’s widely considered the best bang for your buck projector by experts in the AV field, and it’d provide a benchmark in measuring other projectors like LG’s cinebeam
They’re not directly competing, this is a portable projector.
@@jaffaman99 I know, but I still think it’d be cool to see. They’re both at a similar price point, so comparing them still has some merit in my book. What if this is the portable projector that finally competes with home cinema projectors at its same price point? Well, consumers will never know unless there’s an actual comparison. Better to have that sort of information than not imo
@@marcellofrisina6460 yeah fair enough. I’d have liked to see more info on the HDR / contrast performance in this review. I think it’s clear though that this projector sacrifices lumens for its design. Agree with the author that it’s an obvious mk2 improvement.
This thing not having an included battery or not being able to be powered by an external battery (I assume since you didn't mention it), is quite an oversight considering the whole design of this thing.
Except I think the whole marketing of this projector is to be the world's smallest 4K laser projector. In order to have a decent battery it would make it around the size and weight of a XGIMI Mogo Pro.
But yeah I'd have preferred a battery option that's a little bigger, since it doesn't get that bright anyway.
@@overnightdelivery fair point
I'm not sure if i like how it looks like🧐🤔
Functionality seems great. But 500ansi lumens by a 4k projector? This device confuses me😅
I want something about 10x this size with 10x the performance
Love the look and size .price bit much for avrage user
Yep fair
Does the handle not double as a kickstand alternative? Seems like a missed opportunity
Videos have shown it being used as both
I'm still not sure about this, there aren't a lot of people who are reviewing this, websites, blogs or other sources. That kind of unnerves me, surely with a product push with a price tag like this they should be giving this to loads of tech channels and get the hype up?
Not for $2k AUD here in Australia! Perhaps the steep premium is for the 4K, but I would rather spend half the money on either the XGIMI Elfin or Halo+ (or a chinese market Z7X). Only 1080p but I would take the extra brightness over the 4K anyday of the week (Z7X for example is 1200 ANSI lumens vs the Cinebeam 500 ANSI lumens)
yeah and no $200 cash back and case included. - just a 20% discount that would probably be available when it goes on sale.
No 3.5mm audio out?
Since it’s only 1080p @ 120hz, I don’t really get why HDMI 2.1 is part of the marketing. What is it doing to need more than 18 GB bandwidth through HDMI
Looks like the HAL unit had a baby
متابعك من العراق 🌍📸👏
It would have been great if it had an extra HDMI port.
in home demo is going to sell more of these. i know i would be afraid of making a bad financial decision.
for a beautiful sleak design, the remote is hiddeous....
I think for the price you're better off buying 2 Samsung freestyle Gen 2 projectors and using its feature where you can have them overlapping in ultrawide that way it will be brighter and high res. Would work out the same price or cheaper depending where you get it from...
samsung ones arent bright enough.. they are actually pretty terrible
@@joseserrano7052 that’s why I say have 2 in the mode where you can use them together it means you can have them closer to the wall which means it will be brighter. It’s just an option that makes sense
@OzzySafa that gives you a very long picture, and its still a projector with less than 300 ansi lumen, chech "the hook up" channel they have reviewed this and its terrible and overpriced. Theres better options out there
Interesting
The most good image you can get with 500ls is 65 inch screen..
How close it can focus? 15 - 26 cm?
about 50cm
Looks so sleek, but 1300$?? At that price at least include a decent looking remote.
No audio out? No threaded mounting hole underneath? Major oversight. This has very limited use
Exactly! Big omissions by LG and the reviewer!
Paint it green and hold in in front of your head and scream "in the brightest day, in the darkest night.........!!" 😅
Hey Tom, how do you feel about basically doing TV shopping?
I love TV shopping! :D
@@Thetechchap Whatever works, man. Take care and good luck!
Nice bit of kit, £1,030 I'm not sure 🤔.
Love the design, but not tempted. Now, if it had the UST capability in that box .... That would be a different story.
My prediction is meaningless - but it would be these will not be flying off the shelves. They'll sell a few but likely not enough to recoup their entire cost to bring it to market.
Costs very little. Parts are mostly off the shelf. Add some plastic moulding. Not a complicated product by any means. The lens structure, panel and light engine are all from ti, the rest is lg parts bin
Samsung didn't sell. Anker didn't sell. Why tf would lg lol
does somebody know if its compatible with sonos wifi speakers?
That's my question too! what speakers can you use since you only have one HDMI
Should be at least 1.500 ansi lumens.
Good for school teachers on expenses.
Want
No! Don’t put a battery in it next time. It loses its portability when it gets bigger and heavier. If you’re going camping just use a power bank which is just a sensible piece of kit these days anyways.
LG doesn't even come clean about which DLP chip they used.
Pre order discount code
brightness, only 500 ansi. :(
What are the rivals to this?
Nothing in same size/design terms. Plenty of larger, more traditional looking 4K projectors for a little less than this.
How is the compare to nebula capsule laser?
Cost 2-3 times more than it should.
Nice bit of kit, but too dim and too expensive to be a viable option.
An external battery option would be useful, but there's no getting away from that poor light level.
Anyone hear, "Hey guys! I'm TomaTechChap"? Never found out what he's really saying lol
Slowed it down to half speed" "Hey guys, i'm tomthetech chap..." Totally agree with you though; ought to work on it cause first impressions you know 🙂
I'm Tom, the tech chap :)
This projector needs a built in lens cover.
It‘s not native 4K hough… but for the price it‘s still nice.
i believe it is
Omg ! It is laser technology but I could see a lot of rainbow effect here ! Too bad LG :(
its not native 4K!! its Resolution (native) is only Full HD (1920x1080)!
Looks like it's one for parties and not a home setup.
4k or fake 4k with pixel shift ?
It's DLP, so most probably only pixel shift at that price.
if this had android i would have considered it but i hate their webOS!
WebOS is ok - but if you've tried something with Google TV it's little hard going back. Wouldn't let it put you off though.
LOL I got a Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 few years ago for 350 euro. It's just as small and good looking and yeah 4k is nice but how better it is for 4 times what I paid for
1 HDMI isn't enough if you have a Sonos sound bar and need to connect a gaming console!
agreed
Hi, can you use a splitter for this thing?
Not having a battery is an issue, should at least have enough battery for two hours to watch a movie
Does it have 3d support and does it have optical zoom?
Without it… Dealbreaker, sorry.
the price auch..
BATTERY possible! - The HU710PB can be powered with battery - just connect vie USB-C a power bank and you're done - power consumption is some 47 W in full power - LR writes 65 W but that's the power budget that's requested not the real power demand. I own the LG PF50KA - an ultra portable 1080P projector and that costed $ 500 when I bought it with built in battery but honestly that's a very bad idea other than having something glued to the device.
I like this approach much more and the possibility to add basically every power bank with USB-C PD makes it much more versatile because you can choose the battery you like on the go.
I'll buy the HU710PB when the world soccer championship is over and the hype around 4 k projectors is gone and the price is reasonable. $ 700 should be a rock bottom market price IMHO and for that price it's a bargain - add for $ 100 a power bank with 200 Wh and you'll have 4 .. 5 h of cinematic enjoyment on the go.
So yes - the HU710PB is a fully portable mobile power cut device - very neat idea. The only thing I dislike is the missing ⅜" screw in tripod mount which the PF50KA offers.
( just for the record - it would have taken a few seconds to read USB-C power supply on the LG wen page )
Nice design but not for that price
Insane that it is that small. Incredible.
Edit: Its only 1200 bucks!? That's honestly cheap for what you're getting.
This year come cheap mini LED TVs
for the price and the 500ansi - don't think it's worth it.
It's the size/portability, 4K and that design you're buying. For a static setup - you'd want more lumens.
Walle??? More like Hal from the movie 2001
Wait it's not an Apple product 😮
Most of my videos aren't about apple products
Definitely not a giveaway 😢
Not that one not enough lumens
I'm sorry Dave....i cant projcect to 130...
