Good ride.... One day on a ride last Summer, a guy(40ish) on a beater 10-speed that I had passed, started commenting on my ride. I heard him and assumed that he wanted to "chat". I slowed to let him catch me. We had a brief conversation, same standard questions about what it is, yada-yada. That aside, I gave it some throttle and around 10ft.out, I see this dude wanting to race me. He passes me on my left and he had the WIERDEST grin on his face, this guy was seriously trying to race me! Now, this guy was not in the best of shape. Probably hadn't seen his own "equipment" in a quite a while, so I slowed to give him a fighting chance. I think that he forgot how close he was to the road-divider/blocks-long island that ran down the length of the road we were on. As soon as I gave more throttle, he hit the concrete edge of the divider with his left pedal and very abruptly face-planted into the grass. Of course I went back to where he lay, totally face-buried. No movement at all. There were witnesses walking their dog, no probs' for me, but he wasn't moving at all! This road is always part of my ride, so I knew that a cop liked to park in the school-lot a few yards away from where this happened. He's always tucked behind the hedges to catch young, High School racers. I directed said officer to the scene. I Thought this guy was dead! Cop finally woke-up the Dude, So I wished him well and was on my way. I ran my route as usual which brings me back to this road again. Only takes about 15mins. I come to the "scene" again and they are still there, and the guy is still on the ground, surrounded by the dog-walkers and the officer. This guy still wants to talk about my ride. The cop is trying to help the dude on his feet...fail. He finally admits that he was drinking a little. He was piss-drunk... I'm pretty sure he got cited. Back to my ride... I felt bad for the guy. He kept insisting that he used to race bicycles years ago. I figured he was a little buzzed, but he was way past that point. You do meet lots of interesting characters on e-bikes, that's for shit-sure! Sorry if I went too long... It's not Bullshit, it happened and I still get a chuckle when I think about it. I guess that I just felt like telling you guys a little e-bike story today. Good riding to all!!

We have the same thing here in Sweden. They always talk about being greener and whatnot but have ridiculous laws for e-bikes. I get it, it's also for safety. Unfortunately, some bad apples always ruins it for the rest of us.

Maybe one of these days I'll drive out to LA from St. Pete with my RX in tow. There's so many cool places to ride there. We have some nice bike trails and such here, but it's all flat and swampy.
Looks to me like his box was slammed, making the front wheel take the impact and breaking the frame. Tire won't tear the box. BUT, most bikes would not have broken like that, and the Grinch's 73 broke in the same place. Tubing needs to be double walled so close to the support gussets.

Pedals are a great distraction to help people think that overpowered ebikes are street legal, but I am afraid the police and others will gain awareness of the specifications, and S73s may soon be very easy and obvious targets for enforcement of ebike laws.
2 things. I don't think the law cares and has more important things on there hands these days. All of these ebikes have a class 2 (20mph) setting that makes them completely legal.
No matter what others write your remarks are 100% correct. And the other commentator here obviously doesn't know much about police,or police work. They would much rather pull over and paperwork process an ebike crime than a more serious and dangerous contact

They don't give people tickets for jaywalking either even though it's against the law to do it. They will only crack down on ebikes if something major happens with one, like getting run over and dieing from it. Until then this will be the golden years of ebikes. Plus society is pushing the public to switch to more electric transportation instead of gas. Electric is the future and ebikes will be apart of that.
Ray it actually depends on where you live. In smaller towns like mine the police stop people all the time to write tickets for revenue for the city or just to make contact and fish for more serious crimes. Believe it or not unless it’s a big city most police have a lot of down time when they have nothing to do but stop people for traffic infractions.
