    Funny, I got pulled over by a cop last Sunday at 4.30 pm. The copper gave me 6 points on my driving licence, with my bike being crashed. In the UK you can only do can only do 15 mph on a throttle only. i was doing 30 mph. Yeah, having an ebike sucks here in the UK.

      15mp on throttle only ? They hate e-bikes over there ? That is absurdly silly restricting to 15mph on throttle only . Can ride a regular pedal bike at that speed with no motor . They should be encouraging ebike use reducing the amount of cars on the road not trying to keep them out of the UK . They sound very backwards

      @@jimjr9143 Heh, in Poland max is 25kmh (~15.5mph) 250W motor and no throttle, only cadence/torque sensor like PAS for an ebike to be legal.

      While the limit for an unlicensed enike is 15 mph it’s much easier to register an ebike and get a plate go fast as the speed limit

    I got pulled over on Saturday on the Empire State trail in NY. They just said Escooters and e-bikes aren’t allowed on the trail but they didn’t kick me off the trail or give a ticket.

    I got pulled over this Sat for the first time by St. Pete, FL cop who was extremely unprofessional and irate. While in parking lot pulled over I tried respectfully circling my ebike around to approach officers window to see what the issue was bc I couldn’t hear what he was saying and he went absolutely ape💩on me telling me to stop where I am at and to not approach him. He claims I ran stop sign to which I informed him I was on ebike and there was no traffic in neighborhood and wasn’t aware it was a law. I just remained calm and respectful and followed his commands moving forward. He said he didn’t know if I had a gun in my back pack which is why he didn’t want me approaching his vehicle. I informed him I get it as I know it’s no longer safe out there for Leo’s thus acknowledging how many police stops can go south real quick after seeing so much being played out on YT. I just wasn’t expecting to be pulled over thus apologized and advised him I will be sure to stop at all stop signs going forward. He asked for my ID and asked if I was a veteran to which I said yes and he said he was just going to give me a warning to which I was appreciative. Seems these Leo’s are on edge; sadly many for good reason given all the unhinged psychos roaming the streets now-a-days making it bad for everyone. The officer said they were given special orders to monitor and ticket ebike riders for infractions bc they think they own the road and are causing many accidents and grief for other cyclists to which I fully understand. Regardless, if u get pulled over on ebike by Police Officer treat it as though a regular vehicle stop and wait for officers commands. Do not try circling around to officers window to see what issue is; just bc your on an ebike. LOL. Tip of the Day: Be respectful and polite to Leo’s following all their safety commands and 95% of the time they will return the same respect to u; thus increasing your chances in escaping a costly fine. I also don’t blame the Leo; rather myself for not knowing my current ebike laws.

    After riding gas scooters from 50 to 150 cc's for 25 years, I agree with you that it's much safer to keep up with and blend with traffic. Interested in getting a Ebike or Emoped since I recently bought a Bat Safe XL battery box to more safely store the batteries in my house.

  • @dylanpierce_

    The faster your bike, the more regulation you should be subjected to.
    People casually make 35mph bikes & call them e-bikes. That's legally a moped across all 50 states & would be subjected to registration, insurance, etc. Why are people afraid of paying more for doing more?
    I think this issues revolves around riders coming to terms with "e-bike" & "pedal-motorcycle". Treat it like a motorcycle/dirt bike & this solves 99% of an individuals concerns.
    I'd much rather have a no limit motor, pedals, & be treated like a vehicle, instead of being banned from everything because I act like a motorcycle & don't pay for it.

    Sounds like an illegal stop. I'm not sure of your local laws but almost everywhere requires a reasonable cause. Not that I'm arguing with the cops but I wish they would follow the law for stopping people.

    • @aabcd782
      @aabcd782 3 місяці тому

      An “illegal stop”? There can’t be many places in the US that would allow a bike that powerful (gas or electric) on the roads without licence/registration/insurance. The speed and lack of a plate are reasonable cause.

    I've got a Land District. Pretty much an eMoto. I figured max power of 17 kW is around 23hp. So if I get pulled over, I'd tell cop it's around a 250cc motorcycle. So I did go through all the Motorcycle registration paperwork, and NJ plate on it. Got my Motorcycle endorsement too. I'll obey all traffic rules, but if I do get pulled over by a cop with a "just because" reason, then I'll be ready with all the paperwork on hand. And you're right, be patient and respectful as much as possible

    A moped legal limit is 4hp equal to a 4000w motor. That's why sparks bikes all have a 4000w motor to stay legal for mopeds. Anything over 4hp is considered a motorcycle

    • @FightFilms
      @FightFilms 3 місяці тому

      4000w is 5.25 hp

      I just went buy the specs on the sparks javelin they said they couldn't go over 4000w because to get a title for them to give you it has to be under 4hp worth of electric. I know there bikes are capable of 10k watts but they said to get them to give u a title there motors are 3 to 4k to stay legal.

    I've been a cyclist for more than four decades, I grew up in parts of the world where 2-wheel vehicles outnumber cars and bicycles are far more common than big 18-wheelers.
    In America, most cities, urban planning is conducted with motorized vehicles in mind, bicycles & motorcycles are mostly considered as toys, they are not ideal for getting around, some even may consider them not worthy to be on public roads.
    The bottom line is depended on how you ride on the road, to make yourself known to other motorists and get hated for taking up a whole lane by motorists or filter through traffic for safety and get hated for cutting in front of other motorists in cars?
    Until the public accept that bikes & motorcycles are meant to be on public roads just as much as cars & trucks; likely cyclists & motorcyclists are going to be hated by motorists stuck in traffic.

    1:47 He's riding what looks like a Jetson/Ancheer scooter. At least it has pedals, but it's a slow scoot that's best for the sidewalk. I would know because I currently daily of these sad lil' scoots (thankfully a real eBike is on the way!), but mine has pegs so I can't pedal when the battery dies, which it does a lot, so you can say I'm getting my steps in when I'm doing as I call it: The walk of shame!

    most cops dont know about ebikes and the laws but things are now changing. we were on a grouo ride in jersey city with around 40+’riders and my friend’s bike who rides respectfully and in his 60s was the one who got caught and bike impounded.and everybody broke out and ran away. Some riders are doing wheelies and crazy stunts on incoming traffic. He was riding a Talaria XXX. This happened end of July 2024. Jersey has started to form a task force cracking down on illegal bikes and even carries a form on their cop cars on what to look for on an ebike. Cop pulled up lunacycle website on his vehicle to check the spec of the bike and saw that its an off road bike so he has reason to
    impound it. In jersey, the law states that if the bike goes over 28mph, it needs to be licensed and registered. He got 3 summons, one is riding without registration, one is no license and the 3rd is unsafe operation on public roads. He went to court and prosecutors cut him a deal to plead guilty on unsafe operation, in exchange on dropping the first 2. The judge finally said that he’s guilty on unsafe operation which constitutes riding an off road bike on public street. He took the deal to avoid going to trial and if found guilty, will cost him 5k in fines and 6 points on his license. Lesson….dont ride in jersey if your bike’s spec is off road use and goes over 28mph unless registered and insured or run the risk of getting your bike impounded and go to court.

    Was out riding my Solar E-Clipse and got stopped by a motor office in SoCal over the weekend. Zero issues. Produced my permit, insurance, registration and my plate and officer could not have been cooler. I am a CCW holder and I was carrying my firearm and disclosed it immediately after being stopped and the officer didn't need to see it. Only asked if it was current and said he was good with it. First time I've spoken to law enforcement who was knowledgeable at least about Surrons and I've talked to many.
    He had just finished writing up tickets to two motorcyclists when he saw me cross the intersection. He was clearly appreciative that one I stopped (many of these kids on Surrons and the like according to him try to run), disclosed that I was lawfully carrying and that I was legal compliant to ride. My bike out of the box is street legal as long as you possess a permit or license, registration and wearing a DOT approved helmet. Until Surrons come equipped with a VIN, turn signals, horn and front and rear lights they will never be legal to ride on the road.

    3 years ago I was riding my Schwinn Bike in Indianapolis Indiana (60yrs. old @ the time) I stopped @ a red light looked both ways and then proceeded to cross a 1 way street I got about a half block before a cop flew passed me then crossed in front of me blocking my way with his lights on like I had just robbed a bank and jumped out of the car . He comenced to giving me a hard time about , quote " running a red light" . I stated to him that there was no running of any red lights when I stopped and looked both ways in a respectful tone . He still wanted to hammer home how wrong I was and so I replied that I have been riding bikes for over 55 yrs. and I had never had an officer literally pull me over for anything . Well then he had to finalize his point by saying if he ever seen me do that again he would write me a ticket , I thought to myself , really I guess you just haven't been seeing enough action lately . I have been riding my Wired Freedom for 3 years exactly like I have ridden my bikes all these years and haven't had any more run ins with the law 🙏

    Depends on the level of knowledge of the cop and jurisdiction, and whether you were exceeding the speed limit.
    Motorcycle 'cc' does not correlate to gas powered bike horsepower and has no relevancy to ebikes whereby motor size is rated based upon watts and not 'cylinder displacement' aka cc's..
    In most jurisdictions, a class III ebike is allowed to have 750 watts which is just under 1 hp.
    That is the maximum power output of an ebike you can purchase at a local bike shop.
    The carbon Solar Eclipse ebike you were riding has a top speed of 60 mph and max motor output of 10K watts. It has well over 10 x's the motor power of a legal class III ebike which doesn't require a license.
    What we have is largely is an uniformed police officer that doesn't know a gas bike from an electric bike or even what power level is legal.
    For those wondering what the power conversion is between watts and horsepower, the Solar Eclipse Ebike which is effectively an E-motorcycle and not an E-bike is 13.4 horsepower. Some jurisdictions if they knew what they are doing would require a motorcycle license and registration for that bike and even require a motorcycle license to ride it.
