  • Justin Giboney joins the Perrys for a conversation on politics. Justin is the co-founder of the AND Campaign, a Christian civic organization for raising civic literacy among Christians so that we can engage in a better way. He talks with the Perrys about the idea that our public witness doesn’t belong to either political party, and that parties are just tools, not identities.

The beauty about all this is that no matter who ends up winning, we as Christians should all have the same response;pray for the new president and know for sure that God is still in control. This world will indeed get worse no matter who’s in office. That’s a fact.

This was so encouraging to me as a follower of Christ who is young and a college student right now! I've been wrestling with my decision to even vote in this election because both sides have forms of Godliness but are not Godly. So, I was extremely turned off, but after hearing this, I'm more open-minded, taking the right position that honors the Lord and engaging in prayer throughout this process. God bless, y'all!

I never comment. I listen often. Abstaining from sex should be discussed with abortion. It was mentioned that issues that cause women to have abortion need to be addressed. It was said many woman have abortions because they can not afford a child. Why not mention God provides. Why not mention trusting God. I had an abortion for the reason mentioned. Shame on me. We should never depend on the government for provision. What the government chooses will never affect God's provisions for his people. When we do not vote against sinful practices we vote against God. The old testiment shows the consequences of wanting the government to provide.

I think this brother is very sober minded and genuinely cares about trying to serve the Lord. With that being said, I honestly cannot see how Christians can examine both parties and not see a clear distinction between one party that is clearly anti Christian, and the other party that is very flawed but still at least attempts to hold to Christian values.

Well, how can that be when both parties have antichrist values and one way or another? Keep trying to make this a Christian election and it’s not choosing one or the other is not going to send you to Heaven or hell. Both have positives and both have negatives. Stop trying to make it. Something is not and call it what it is. Neither candidate is a Christian. We’re not voting for a bishop or a pastor. We’re voting for a carnal president.

Handled the topic with caution for sure. I don’t think trump is accurately representing the republican party in its connectivity to Christ and the Word of God, which is what makes this difficult for those who seek to keep Christ centered during this election season. Don’t agree with everything Harris stands for, but I believe within the context of this day and age, understanding the weight of free will and it’s link to biblical concequences can be emphasized with her a president. • @jbanne001
    @jbanne001 9 годин тому +11

What Preston said was really good. Sometimes we fail to see PEOPLE. We're so stuck on what our stance is that we fail to realise that certain people may have different concerns on why they may vote a certain way. He gave a good example of the old church lady in the black church who votes blue because she's concerned about her grandson's future. Not everyone is going to have your concerns and policies in mind. Does that mean she supports abortion or the gay lifestyle... absolutely not. She just fears for her grandson's future...and that's valid.
Just like the person that votes red because their school is pushing an ideology that is harmful to their adolescent kid. I understand both sides of the argument. It boils down to what things are important to the individual person.
When I hear ignorant statements like "you cant vote Democrat and be a Christian", I laugh. So basically what that tells me is everyone in church including lil old ladies in church hats in predominantly African American communities are all unsaved and going to hell because a large number vote blue? That's utter nonsense. Different people have different priorities that they find important to them.
Theres Democrats that don't support abortion or the LGBT lifestyle, just like theres Republicans that aren't blatantly racist, misogynistic, America idolizing zealots either.
The whole us or them thing is erasing any room for nuance and that's just not realistic.

I understand the stance of being against abortion; however, if your belief is that the ends (ie. abortion bans causing statistically more infant & women deaths, criminalizing miscarriages, & putting women’s health further at risk) justifies the means, then I encourage a heart check.
Also, many people are voting Trump for his stance on abortion but neglecting the remaining of his policies on the demolition of affordable health care, social security, & the department of education. As well as his painful rhetoric & policies gear towards immigrants & minorities. To the many that say one policy reflects Christ while ignoring the others, I ask you what does it mean to advocate for & love others.

Really great podcast! As a believer I do not support abortion. I had a thought recently around this that God gives us the freedom of choice and maybe if we try to 'tell' someone how to live through enforcing certain policies we are in a way removing that choice from them. I am not saying that we shouldn't try to have policies around it but maybe we should also continue to educate women about their options and continue to share the Gospel as disciples, of God's love for humans before the formation in the womb. I am not knowledgeable on the statistics of Christian abortions but I am thinking that maybe the majority of abortions may be among non-believers please correct me if I am wrong. But if that's the case we cannot expect non-believers to do the right thing. I don't know if I'm making sense, but the idea is that there is that freedom of choice available and God is looking to see the choice we will choose to make obeying His Word.

It's kind of funny how we get all nuanced with the conversation when it comes to politics but are straight forward with things like false prophets, adultery and idolatry. Stick to the script and all this would be much simpler. People will stay in the middle in politics in the church then wonder why many do the same things in other areas of their life. A lot of biblical illiteracy comes from all these nuanced conversations and gives the illusion that the bible isn't clear about a lot of things we want answers to.

I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend and a whooping $320k in savings already, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in debt then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Christina A. Tucker is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!

One take away is thinking about the topic and thinking about the other factors and laws that contribute to that topic. Like you all mentioned on abortion. Also, another is that we don’t have to choose a side and agree with everything on that side. We should be humble and honest enough to acknowledge that _____ is wrong or _____ is right no matter what side we’re on. Thank you all and God bless you!!

There are many who say they're for "all" but they really mean all except us, because they know we'll never say "all" ways lead to God. I worry that in attempting to join them on behalf of "all" may speed up our own persecution. It was from a Biblical perspective that freedom of religion was set up in the first place. I'm starting to lean to the side that sides with believers to protect that freedom for all. If any of that makes sense lol.

There has never been a candidate that I can say aligns with all issues that is important to me but I look for the candidate that has the issues that align with myself as well as my community needs. Policies and character matters to me. There are some policies I don’t agree with as a Christian but I also see how the candidate’s moral standards and character align with God’s character. Integrity matters to me and how I reconcile voting for MVP is that as a Christian I don’t have a right to force my beliefs onto anyone. I read the Bible and Jesus showed us how to go out and conduct ourselves and make disciples, we were given the free will to decide. God desires relationship with us, he wants us to choose him but nowhere in the Bible does it say God makes us be in covenant with him. I believe people who do make choices to go against God’s command to kill or operate in immorality his word is clear there will be consequences but we as Christians are not called to judge or to try to control other people which is what trump is running on and he is a convicted felon. Would you trust a man with sexual misconduct charges around your family and spews hate speech. He is not a Christian. He said so over a month ago at a Christian event. You can google it. He is selling the word of God with the Constitution in it. There are layers to the abortion ban that will role back reproductive healthcare for women. IVF funding was voted down in Congress in September by the Republican Party. How many women do you know where able to give birth because of IVF. It’s deeper than oh a woman had sex and now doesn’t want the baby no this also impacts Mom’s who want the baby but complications from the pregnancy require abortion procedures that impacts her health be necessary. People have already started dying from this ban. How can you have an abortion ban and want to cut funding for government programs to help parents to be able to afford to feed and support these children. We are talking about the same party Trump is running on. If we are voting for him to save the babies lives how about banning assault weapons and making background checks. I didn’t grow up having to do active shooter.

It’s funny how we as black folks have so many reservations when it comes to voting. Countless black men and women fought and died so that we can vote. During those times the main agenda was having the same rights of others. Being afforded the same opportunities. Well, their fight worked to a certain degree, we are better now than what we were then, even though we still have to deal with so much more. It is My opinion that those opportunities are being challenged. It is our generations job to insure that we do not loose them.
This is not about religion. Can we find something in the Bible to make it about religion or our faith? Of course we can.
I believe this is about our everyday lives and the lives of our children/grandchildren. Vote!

EVERY single person who is against abortion has never been raped by a man and forced to then carry that child, deliver that child, and care for that child for the rest of its life. There’s not a single woman or girl in the world who has experienced a rape or incest and carried the child, delivered the child and cared for the child for the entirety of its life and is against abortion. What makes you think you get an opinion on what a woman or girl who was violated by a man does with the seed that was planted inside of her against her will? I seriously want to know why a little girl should be forced to carry and deliver a baby when that would literally destroy her body? Why should a child be forced to carry and deliver a seed planted inside of her by her own father? Her own family member? Imagine that child’s life, its mother and father are daughter and father. Do you really believe that God wants that kind of family dynamic for his children? Please explain this.

God doesn’t force anyone to do anything. No one should be forced to do anything. Being a believer in God through Christ is voluntary. Rape and incest are very traumatic experiences and God knows how traumatic it is for a woman to go through something like that. God knows what we feel and what we go through because he felt our infirmities enduring the cross but without sin. He knows what it’s like to be human through Christ Jesus. It’s a blessing he gives us free will and the ability to obtain wisdom on what is best in those situations through his word. God knows each human being personally, even those individuals who are a result of rape or incest. He loves them like he loves any other child born out of a sinful experience. Ultimately I think it is best for a woman who has experienced that to consult and seek what God wants and ask Him to guide her in that situation on what decision she should make and it be between her and God. I know that God knows every person he allows to be born into this earth ,regardless of how they’re born, he knows them before they’re ever conceived in the womb and he has a specific purpose for every one he allows to enter this earth through the womb of a woman. It’s a good purpose too. Pain is a part of life because of sin but God uses the pain we experience for good and our well being. God’s intentions are always pure and always good. Being a Christian means believing that God is good no matter what suffering we go through and trusting that he is good and will work things out for his good pleasure as there is no sin in Him. Being a Christian is a suffering way ( trusting God when thing’s don’t make sense to us or is painful to endure) but the suffering we experience on this earth is nothing compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us in eternity. God knows best and God will sustain and guide any woman through something so traumatic because he loves women. Women are God’s idea not man’s.

False. Brave women have and do carry these children to term. Some raise them. Some adopt. Abortion is trauma.

Why do you think that an abortion is a harmless operation?!! They come with lifelong side effects for so many women such as not ever being able to get pregnant again! Abortions are painful and traumatic on so many levels. Does that baby need to pay with it's life for the sin of it's father?! How about those who have had abortions and regret that choice the rest of their life? How about placing the baby into adoption? I have so many family members that are adopted that are wonderful people. Two of my friends had appointments to be aborted as babies and their moms changed their minds at the last moment. One of those friends started and organization that has helped tens of thousands of people. Shame on you for trying to justify abortion, it only brings death and destruction.

After truly thinking about this, I come to this conclusion. I believe that God wants every human to have autonomy, to have the right to choose to be in relationship with him. The side of Republican tends to of course, highlight the beauty that is within Christ, however it can be deemed as forcing others to believe. The one thing that I can respect about the Democratic side is that despite their efforts towards pushing certain agendas, it does highlight the right to choose. God has never been a forceful God, he has never tried to force his way into people’s lives. He is all about choosing to open the door, God is always there, but you must choose to let him in. You have to choose to let him be your ruler and to be in a relationship with him. The only side that actually allows you to choose and not have a dictatorship is the Democratic side. If we claim to be Christians and we claim to respect the way the Lord has created us. How can we allow for our friends our neighbors to not have choice. We are supposed to represent freedom, happiness the ability to choose what path we want. It is not our role to judge our neighbor. It is for God to judge. God has allowed all of us to be able to choose him, and I think he wants us to continue to have that right. We cannot oppose our views on other people and judge and condemn others that is un-Christian. We focus so much on what someone else’s sin looks like, are we actually looking in the mirror? Are you truly living as a Christian, or just playing one? Cherry picking issues is part of the problem. This is why so many people don’t take Christian’s serious. You claim to know Christ but are racist, prejudice, support not taking care of the poor, dismissive to the value of life, believe that “illegals” are coming here wrong when this country is full of illegals if you are not full blown Native Americans. Look at you and stop pointing fingers. You’ll be more like Christ when you actually think that way.

I'm not so sure that's Christlike. Christ came to save us from sin & *ourselves*. He was able to do that because he fulfilled the law, not abolished it. The God we serve is the same one who made the 10 commandments- for our good. He doesn't force us to follow Him, but the other option is very clear- our own destruction & demise under our own misguided rule. It's an act of love and protection to establish rule and order. Our sinful, rebellious hearts may resist it or even walk away. That's where grace comes in- to forgive us, welcome us back with a soft place to land, when weary and broken. That's where the church steps in too- to look after the poor, the widows and the orphans etc.
There's a necessary duality to our role. 1- to use our vote to stand with the Lord for what's Bibilically in alignment with Him and 2- to extend grace & help to those in need, including those who have chosen to go their own way to their own peril & now need help.
Choice comes second. Truth comes first. Freedom only exists with boundaries, otherwise it's pure anarchy.

When abortion is talked about in Christian communities aren’t being genuine either. It is as if you’re only talking about women who abort their babies because of inconvenience. Of course that is wrong. But remember because the abortion laws are not making exceptions for babies that die in the womb that not viable and put the mother’s life in danger.

This only applies to ectopic pregnancy and usually then the baby has died by the time you rupture.

God has a plan for that child and there are many families that would love to adopt the child. God can redeem the situation, but a child doesn't have to die.
