Okay, I’m going to have to argue for Shrieker being Good:
1. Extra baubles allows you to buy many more Trinkets, so as long as you have the space, it’s a really useful economic tool
2. The extra crit is very passive but still solid. If you can get just 2 items, that’s +4% crit, which is practically what the Graverobber revolves around with offensive build.
3. ITS SO DAMN CUTE
Also if you are wearing scout gear for the crit chance that synergizes with finding the hoarder to use the baubles. I think this pet is cool.
Ever since 1.0 I've been overflowing with Baubles. Don't remember if that's because of shreiker though. So you might be onto something.
crit increase should go up to 4% imo
the baubles are also good for buying stagecoach gear, like griddle or giant pot
flapjacks and invigorating stew are both really good
I would be okay with Larval Carrion Eater's heal proccing upon any Corpse Removal method (whether it be Killing Blow, Corpse Destruction, Combat Items, whatever) in return for less heal. I don't know if the heal nerf would even be necessary, but if a nerf to the heal was needed, then that's how I would do it.
I can see the carrion feeder only being really good in scenarios where you kill the front liner and then use a multi hit attack to destroy the corpse and damage a 2nd/3rd position.
Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of those in DD2
@@LycanDreams9159 yeah, we need more enemy types
carrion is trash
you don't even worry about the corpses for the most part
the only corpse removal thingy i use is fester just because scourge doesn't have 4 really good moves and seems like i forgot about sepsis
Would love to see the pets in 3D and animated - and a new Character (The Game Keeper) who is sort of like the DD1 Hound master but uses whichever pet you have equipped...
I think that would be too much work to implement. Cool idea though
Shambler is S tier for being the cutest
I'm sorry, but baby Shrieker
also, you can run 2 busted as fuk cultist trinkets on 1 character
i will built an absolute unit: wanderer flagellant with locked jaw and spoken sharply
Going from no pet to wolf pup was an absolute game changer!
he's actually my favorite as of now (no baby shambler yet)
I’ve only done a run so far with rabbit and pup, the pets are fun little side things to have and I’m enjoying them so far. Having tons of speed and hp with the rabbit was far nicer than I had initially expected
Edit: stewpot is nice as it gives a single food item that feeds everyone, so you can efficiently still feed your party without hurting your food stacks
they'll add crusader, but only as baby reynauld
klepto pet
Crusader Cub: +% chance of random stress heal +% of gold disappearing
they should troll playerbase and make him bad. Best char in dd1 = worst in dd2
they added him in and he's quite balanced, he does make the runaway more usable due to a skill that boosts damage against enemies with burn
i wish pets could be more visual on the stagecoach when equipped instead of a tiny cage
Wolf pup is an S tier pet when you get really bad RNG with the crossroads. There are times you might run a troll team with 0 synergy because those 4 specific characters all had GREAT quirks and individually they work . . . just not as a whole. Wolf pup enables you to develop respected or similar positive relationship connections which can unlock combos that only become usable when they have high enough relationship scores.
All of a sudden stage coach items are high commodity. I usually default to buying trinkets at the altar instead of stage coach items so I definitely don’t have all of the different stage coach that has synergy with some of the pets.
Shrieker Chick properties making me sad, I will play it anyway because it's cute.
It's very strong. 8% crit is like a third trinket on everybody
He really undersells it. 2 looted baubles applies to both fights and road pick ups, so it adds up FAST.
Hatchling croc gives a 20% to have -1 spd at start of battle only. The dmg% bonus is the only thing that is stacking when moving.
i think part of the thought process of making the blood so rare is that if it's common enough to where you could use it in normal battles, you wouldn't have the drawback of the stress since the horror would go away when the fight ends. If they could make the horror carry over somehow i'd love to see it be more common
I think that the eyre should also be more run defining pets and maybe some that have something to do with each region
I think you can resist the speed debuff from the Croc pet. I took one for my MAA, highway man, GR and runway team and it was amazing.
Can you do an updated video on this? I love your videos! There aren't enough people doing videos on this game tbh. This is an amazing game and it needs more awareness. Thank you for your time and effort in making these videos!
Thank you! I was waiting to see if pets changed more since release before I update this. They're almost the same besides some small buffs.
The blood is OP, it's designed to be a boss killer. Being able to use it on your whole party if you have enough in a single turn that will destroy the enemy and your stress level won't be a problem since the fight is already over. The blood is best used with heavy hitters like, leper, helion, bounty hunter and occultist. if you can land a 2x weaken before using the blood then you are almost guaranteed to finish most boss fights in 1~2 turns.
Exactly. He's bugging about the tick pet. So many of these pets are situational, and you may or may not find the gear required to make them decent. The tick is strong out the gate, and you can expect to get several stacks of the blood in a long run. As a tool for bosses, nothing really compares. Tick is S tier if you have any clue how to play this game.
@TeeIeh just tried it with dmg jester build, it's insane. Landing anywhere from 60 to over 90 is so fun vs bosses.
The pot and still counts as a food gear as well iirc, even though the whiskey items it makes do not count as food.
Some of the newer thumbnails looks dope bro. Loving the channel development. ❤
I love the wolf cub!
I regret ever unlocking a 4th pet because of the chance of not seeing it on the inn...
good news: now every pet will always appear in the valley inn
I love how most of the Pets are cute and terrifying at the same time. Can't decide if I want to cuddle or stomp the baby Crocodilian.
If they will get the SB back I would be really upset if they won't add -1% resolute chance for her if you have Pliskin on you
Nah more like +1 stress a turn.
@@smokeweebs8700 It would be reasonable, but to strong. Imagine take 1 stress every turn in every battle...
@@smokeweebs8700 that's over kill, make it 50% chance for stress every turn, like the phobia quirks
Wow, I hadn't even realized that the pet update came out
Just made it to the 4th confession, your vids have been a big help. Keep it up.
5th confession too hard, halp
Hatchling Crocodilian and the Crimson Tick are the best because I like Crimson Court
What sort of psychopath are you?
If you equip shambly, can you equip scouting gear to offset the debuff? Or is it literally 100% no scouting at all?
Because of how high the -% is, the scouting gear for locations can only get you back to base scout chance for them. Usually, I get more stagecoach items anyway since I'll be hitting up EVERY ingress anyway, so I'm not buying trinkets anyway. The scout gear that's less than +100% is probably not gonna get you back above 0% so it's probably not worth though.
@@josh___something there's now atleast quirks that give you a +100% chance to find specific path types, such as rough patches or hazards
I wish these things were easier to find. I had no idea what tinker gear was for awhile. same when they say contraptions and stuff
look at item, under name it shows the specific type of item (food, contraption, woven, road gear, restorative, tinker gear, luxury gear, etc.)
22:36 What does he mean by the wine I haven’t seen it yet?
It's a rare inn item that references the first game. Heals stress and gives affinity points
Imo, the crocodilian should go above or the same level a bug that gives you 1 blood in the entire run. The Croc can at least reward you for the right party or adapting to it with potentially really powerful attack bonuses. The tick will only ever give you 1 blood and maybe a 2nd no matter what you do. You might as well just buy a warhorn or stimulants if you want the tokens without the horror.
18:17 Pliskin
Can you offset the Shambler by using Librarian trophy?
Yes, also region specific traits and stagecoach items
Ngl croc can carry with a really heavy dance team in long fights, GR, Hellion, Jester, Occultist.
You should definitely be able to pick your pet when you choose your characters
You forgot the OWL in your time codes
I think it was the automatic youtube time stamps
how do i unlock pets? is in the altar?
Yes
they got their own tab in the intrepid coast section
I think this game needs a Hamlet,u cannot go wrong with Hamlet tho.
altar of hope is the closest we got, and it's just a skill tree
Interesting, but for me only the Larval Carrion Eater and the Wolf Cub are useful... the others may be cute, but feel "meh" at best...
Sadly the best pets are the ones that you need to do the least to get benefits from but that has always been the meta route. Snake, wolf, slime, owl and shambler are active the moment you slot them. Tick just has too low of a proc. Carrion and Crocodilian require too much effort from you and don't give enough for what you have to do. Rabbit is a stars align pet and you could see zero benefit from it your whole run. I'd like to see a rework of Rabbit and Carrion because those are cool ideas that don't work particularly well. My favorite is the slime and his name is Borb.
Eeeeh, I wouldn't pick up the rabbit if there isn't food gear, but even +1 speed for the party for the whole run is pretty good. The second ability is pretty dead for me though. Not worth storing food that gives you 4x 6 health per hero(+buffs) for 1 health in 3 regions, plus taking up slots in the inventory.
@@josh___something Plus speed is only worth it to me if can be +2 or more I'd rather be able to easily lower speed for trinket benefits especially if the tangle lair is on your hitlist.
@@thorinhannahs4614 you're already guaranteeing +1 if you only take the rabbit when there's a food item on the shop, and lowering speed is kinda counterintuitive to the gameplan there. You obviously *don't* plan on using those trinkets, (unless you're bringing a tempest leper I suppose) and there's also trinkets that like high speed characters.
@@josh___something The game is great on not planning on anything which is why I don't take the rabbit ever. Slime and Cub are my favorites and I throw in tick every now and then for some blood for lairs and confessions. I know why everyone is great when given speed but MaA and Flage always generate value beyond one action so I don't mind them going last.
I don't like Rabbitt. Seems you have to get the +4 speed for it to be worth it. Otherwise hoarding food is a pain in the ass. It's better to just eat the food. Unless you popoff with flapjacks or get 4 food stagecoach items, it's pretty trash IMO. Agree with you on the rest.
Speed is great, a free book of rousing tunes for the whole run is pretty nice. I just wouldn't pick rabbit if there isn't food gear in the first inn though.
@@josh___something yeah i mainly pick pets based on stagecoach stuff available (mostly cub or pliskin, i don't have the later ones)
I have 5 of the 6 top pets unlocked already. Thank god for this video, I would've been pretty pissed off if I spent 3+ hours of candles to unlock 1 good pet. This game has too many design flaws for it to be out of EA.
you can't buy the candles with real money, 0% EA
@@kamilslup7743He meant early access...
Every pet is S tier. They're good boys/girls/creatures.
These timestamps are really inaccurate. Not to mention there are 10 pets but only 8 are in the time stamp bar thing.
YT set the time stamps automatically I think. I don't remember doing them for this video lol
I really like the flavor of the tick, but I feel like rather than making the blood production more consistent they should double down a little more on flavor, like adding something like this:
- Each hero on CRIT: heal 2
- Each hero on CRIT: +1 stress
This would give the tick an interesting tradeoff where it gives you a source of predictable crits and a nice restorative bonus for landing them (making crits almost feel like “the thirst”), but at the cost of increasing stress from the blood and reducing the stress restoration from landing crits. This kind of design also isn’t totally out of the question when it comes to how DD2 handles its design, since one of the Foetor trinkets shares this crit heal passive and Carcass has the inverse of the stress effect (restoring stress when crit in order to counteract the stress damage taken from being crit).
Idk though maybe I’m out of my mind and this would turn tick into a monstrously broken pet.
I have to disagree on the Shambler. A lot of the cultist trinkets are very path dependent or straight out bad and then you are not even guaranteed to get the ones you want. A lot of combinations can also be substituted with normal trinkets so there isn't much added value. If that wasn't bad enough you will have pretty much 0 scouting.
Shrieker at the bottom is also odd. He's providing an incredible 6-8% crit across the board. That's literally the most desirable stat out there since it stress heals, increases chance to apply debuffs and dots. Not to mention scouting gear is not too bad this patch. Hospital + loot hoarder scouting (+ the extra baubles) guarantees finding them and their offer improves. The argument that it doesn't help on the mountain isn't fitting since you only have 2 stops there anyways so your chances of producing anything you still need for the final fight are incredible low.
I think a nice way to think about the shambler spawn is that you don't need to spend baubles for trinkets at the hoarder, it's "downside" of no scouting can be offset by scouting gear(and quirks) that you can buy more of because of said not buying at the hoarder, and it gives you more positive relations since heros CAN'T disagree on ingress encounters.
That, and just don't throw away the cultist trinkets so you don't get the res piercing one 5 times in a row. Also, out of the 12 or so cultist trinkets, half of them are great for most comps and a few of them I'd almost consider run winning(*temptation*). With each region ending with a guaranteed rampart, it's almost guaranteed that you'll get a few of the good ones. Plus, if you REALLY want to hit up a certain location, just get a region goal to avoid it, and it'll guarantee that it's shown (as well as any region modifier that gives you extra scout chance).
@@josh___something Some of the best trinkets come from shops. That aside, if not spend on trinkets and repair there's not much to do with baubles. You get a resource you want to spend for sure. Yes, you can counteract the Shambler's blindness but that requires the librarian scouting trophy which means you are not using the +50% hp or the burn on crit trophy so you are paying a VERY high premium to get scouting back. I wouldn't consider quirks into this equation due to low chance to get them, keep them and the region being exactly what you wanna do
And then there are the trinkets themselves and you already made the point that only 50% of them can even be used for a given comp. Out of the 12 there are 3 really good ones: Temptation, Snap Judgement, Silent Treatment. Everything else can easily be substituted or even outclassed by other trinkets. Not to mention that there are also dog shit trinkets you will have to keep just to increase the chance. 25% chance to make the pet beneficial while 100% chance of tremendous downsides.
@@0rcd0c Stagecoach items my dude, you spend baubles on stagecoach items. Also, sometimes you *get* the librarian's other trophy, that's just rng... But I wasn't suggesting going for it.
Also, 3/12 (sickening silence pretty good, but sure 3/12) on something you get at each region end OR oblivion ingresses is bad? It's almost guaranteed by region 3 that you get one of them, not to mention that the other 9/12 are still serviceable when you get them. That aside, shops are also rng, and nothing is stopping you from also getting them at the hoarder, you're 1 "avoid the hoarder" away from guaranteeing a shop visit too, it's not like you'll be hurting for candles.
The shambler spawn is a fun way to guarantee some amount of good trinkets, and freeing up some resources to use for good stagecoach items and maybe hitting up a hoarder by chance, or choice. It's not without peril, sure, but that's not an indictment on the pet.
Plus, it makes it faster to go through each region cause I don't have to agonize over every road choice. ;)
@@josh___something Yes, you can counteract the -100% scouting but it will require A LOT to do so. You are spending stagecoach item slots (baubles)/trophy just to get back to the standard scouting. Other pets would offer a guaranteed scouting with it. The lack of shop scouting is also very detrimental as some regional/path trinkets are extremely good. Even some distant trinkets are very powerful.
25% out of 3 guaranteed encounters (drops are not guaranteed) is abysmally low. It's not rare that you end up not using any cultist trinkets anyways or didn't get the desired drops. So you ride around with negatives and 0 benefits. The pet offers barely any strength increase compared to beating 3x lair boss + hoarders while penalizing the whole run with -100% scouting. No other pet is this bad. I can take any other stagecoach pet and easily get 2-3 (sometimes 4) out of the desired stagecoach items and get a 3rd trinket slot on top. Shambler is unfortunately abysmally bad and really needs a fix.
@@0rcd0c You really need to reevaluate what is "Abysmally bad" when several folks outright RECOMMEND the shambler pet. You're honestly massively over valuing scouting, and 3x lair bosses + hoarder is, really... Yeah, okay sure I'll concede that forcing a hat trick while visiting hoarders is gonna give you the best of the best trinkets in exchange for having essentially a locked path anyways, and having to face 3 lair bosses. That _is_ a way of playing the game.
(I'll skip over the fact that you can also do this with the shambler trinket with next to no issue), but if you're locking yourself in to beating ALL 3 region bosses and hitting the hoarder as well, then why the hell do you care that the shambler pet doesn't work with that playstyle. My brother in christ not everyone wants to, or CAN rawdog all 3 lair bosses consistently, and if you have the skill to do so, then why does it matter if this pet can achieve a slightly lower power ceiling for a whole lot less difficulty (you can NOT convince me that ingresses are the same difficulty as lairs).
Fuckin go nuts if you're playing like that, but cruising through regions not being able to see shit but the lair, and ingresses is a fun and rewarding way to play. It's still a very good option, just a different masochistic way to play the game.
Where cat?!!!??!??
wolf cub is S tier
lul pets lmao
Simple test for working out if your pet is the best:
Does it awoo?
If yes congratulations, you have the best pet.
If else try again.
cub is pretty good, it's basically a free leaf suspension + tea service
and you get stress resist from some stagecoach items
