I’d love to do more like this but this video took FOURTEEN HOURS to make hahaha. It’s a huge commitment for me to get these made when I’m also uploading daily content + working my real life job
Never tried revita. I know it's good shit, just never got the itch to go and get it. Maybe learning it has a fishing minigame is what finally draws me to it O.O
Personally the aesthetic/atmosphere of a roguelike is a key factor to whether I would consider, I find it hard to play a game that has great gameplay but a bland artstyle.
An alternative to Issac or Vampire Survivors is NIMRODS, with Issac style upgrades, and a horde survival reminicent of Vampire Survivors. It is not your average Vampire Survivors clone.
I also recommend Dead Estate for fans of Gungeon or Binding of Isaac. It’s the only game that actually scratches the same itch as either one for me. Also, it’s perfect for Halloween >:) Also also, boobs
The story of Brutal Orchestra is also legitimately incredible, even if you only put like 10 hours in to get both endings, its legitimately incredible as just a standalone story game but with the depth to have that replayability.
This was such a smart idea. I love roguelikes, but have been stuck on Isaac for a while cause I cant seem to shake it and bother learning something new from scratch. When I play I just wanna "plug and play" since its how I relax after work. So thanks for giving me some options that are similar enough byt new and fresh.
Fab, picks and reasoning, this should be a series! Not every roguelite has to be presented as Slay the spire but..., but examples help illustrating mechanics. Dice Tower f.e. does these for boardgames, beloved classics that (should have) outlived their renoun (Dominian vs. Thunderstorm. Underused genre is multifunctional cards (like in Glory to Rome) imo) Metaprogression makes imo for more engagement, delayed yet anticipated fun, wild combinations I haven't allready seen... keeps me hooked^^ Always took you for a more "the way is the goal" kinda gamer;o) Pirate outlaws for the StS itch? Spellrogue for a bagbuilder? Cavity busters for a grosser TBoI? And much love for the Revita recommendation (a while ago), after TBoI and Atomicrops my most hours in now roguey game. Cheers
Seconding this (thirding?), nova drift is incredibly great and has only gotten better and better over time. So many games I find hard to just jump back into sometimes, but nova drift always feels so easy to jump hop in and do some runs.
love the voccasional video essays, i was gonna ask you about your thoughts on nova drift but ya answered that, I would love to see ya check out the new updates on the game
Great video, as for another game for someone searching for that cruel deepmining rougulike type game that is speluky I would also suggest noita, it's really great
some mobile roguelikes i enjoy: one of my favorite roguelike games is an 8-bit styled turn based game called pixel dungeon. there are tons of variants, but myfave is YAPD (yet another pixel dungeon) . they all cost a few bucks on IOS but they are all free on android, at least last i checked. soda dungeon is another good one, similar in visual style, but with very different gameplay. 1 and 2 are free on IOS and android, but 1 can crash on low-memory devices. just realized how much this sounds like some sort of ad. i swear i'm a real person just recommending games i like.
Finally, someone suggests Space Gladiators - one of my favorite rogue-lites! A very underrated game in my opinion, I didn't want to try it but now I have all 100% achievements and this game is deservedly one of the top places on my best rogue-lites of all time list!
I don't really understand all that hype around hades. As you've said, the combat is very boring. Sure, everything else is cool, but you kill enemies like 70% of all playtime, if not more, and it's meh
This is my favorite video I have seen from you thus far! I am a big fan of piecing together brilliant videos like this using all of the years of accumulated indie game hours and knowledge. Helped me realize that I have still a ton of new games to find and play, and many that I have heard of that I have criminally not wishlisted/picked up. Added Brutal Orchestra, Plink Panic!, Spirits Abyss, and Nova Drift from this video alone. I hope you'll make more like this in the future. GREAT video!
Wow Olexa I had no idea we are nearly 1:1 for in taste/opinions! Subscribed, and excited to see more from ya. Also that Tiny Rogues suggestions just got A LOT more legs on it, love that game!
I'm terrible at isaac, but god revita is amazing. I got to shard 30 all golden guns, beat about every daily run I do plus do bounty runs when I'm bored sometimes. Game has SO much content it's one of the best games I've ever played hands down.
please play archvalle its a fun rouge like game if you have the time you can beat the game in 1 sitting my beast time is about 7h but its like a bullet hell and i think you would really in joy a play thru of the game a tip if you play the game don't skip any area there is a lot of secrets items that can help you a lot in the game like a gold ring gives you more gold and a lot more stuff thanks for listening to me ram bell about my favorite game if you play hope you in joy.
I wouldn’t fully consider cuphead a rougelike, but I think an alternative should be void rains upon her heart, similar type of games but vastly different
I'm a huge fan of Nova Drift, but it is sad that no one knows it! Love that you mention it! Great game and still in very active development too, so lots of new features. I have 110 hours in the game right now and I'm not done yet!
Incredible video. I already know about nearly all of these games (some of them i have) and i wasn't even planning on adding more to my library just ye but it was just fun to hear your opinions about the games hehe.
Yes, rated too highly. It’s overrated. There are many many games much better than it when it comes to gameplay. Dead cells has great art and theming and a lot of (bloated) content but the gameplay loop is repetitive and boring
If you enjoy the long campaigns and mood of darkest dungeon, but prefer the gameplay of tactics games like fire emblem, would definately recommend The Last Spell. Incredible OST, tons of combinations of perks and items to create monstrous builds and teams that synergize together, with combat that feels so fluid and smooth once you get a handle on it.
The watcher is still more balanced than any character in any other deckbuilding roguelike. Slay the Spire’s balance is on another level from other games. And dead cells is boring
I really like these kinds of videos! I understand how long they can take, and it’s always better not to rush these kinds of videos! Can’t wait to watch another like this
Well, I have to disagree with what is said in the video, there is one big reason. You recommended those other games highly based on the one aspect you liked about the first game. So for you they might share similarities, but it is not that great for a recommendation, as people like those games for different reasons. Dead Cells is one of my favourite roguelites and I never thought about it as a stat management game. Boons in Hades? I find it being one of the worst mechanics in the game, because it takes out the roguelite experience in a way, because you always seek certain synergies, making each run less diverse. Also, for me gameplay itself is rather the most important aspect. Game can have some genius systems, mechanics, ideas etc. but if it is not fun to play... meh. So even if both Isaac and Revita are great games, jumping from a top-down view game you can control just with your keyboard to a 2D game where it really matters where your reticle is, it is just totally different experience gameplay-wise. So yea, I talked a little about me, but then there will be another person, another and another person that has their main thing that makes them like the game. But I think many of those games are loved because of different things in them combined, not just because of one thing that stands out. So if you are seeking similar experience and will go from a recommendation based on one aspect, instead of the overall experience with the game, you will find yourself in a vastly different place. I still think it is nice video, because you point out those certain aspects, so if someone is looking at them in the same way as you, they can get something from that recommendations. But because there is so much people with different opinions and reasons to love certain games, for many following a recommendation will be a miss. They still might find a great game, but it won't be what they looked for.
@@OlexaYT From this list I played more than I haven't and the thing is those games play very differently. Not just Hades/Nova Drift. There is totally different feeling between Dead Cells and Space Gladiators. Darkest Dungeon and Brutal Orchestra are also like day and night, where the thing that connect both is that you have a party. I also already mentioned Isaac/Revita in the last comment, where just changing the camera perspective and adding a reticle changes a lot. I'd still stay on the side, that there are great games to recommend in this video, they are just not great recommendations based on the other game mentioned. Some similarities sure, as those games share at least one aspect that is always mentioned in the video(synergies for Isaac, path upgrades for Hades etc.), but saying "extremely similar" is overstatement. I love Brutal Orchestra, but I would not recommend anyone to play Darkest Dungeon based on that, they're just totally different. Dead Cells and Space Gladiators, if all you need is jump and attack then yea, go for it, but if you want to go deeper into what those titles provide, then it is extremely different experience. That's the problem of recommending things based on one aspect, just because those games are not only this one thing and there is more to what makes them.
Always love seeing tiny rogues mentioned! Small correction but it has a few more than 12 classes right now. Can't remember all of them but I at least didn't see the wizard or the doppelganger there. I can't wait for the update, we'll finally be able to go through those doors!
@@OlexaYT I will 100% I already got some not hating on the others cuz I haven’t played em yet but binding of Isaac and dead cells and hades are in my top 5 maybe it’ll be changed

I’d love to do more like this but this video took FOURTEEN HOURS to make hahaha. It’s a huge commitment for me to get these made when I’m also uploading daily content + working my real life job
I really liked it to and it was very helpful. Its hard to navigate through the jungle of new games even when you know what you like.
I hope this video blows up, not even just because it's a great video, but also because it would help so many people find great games
Never tried revita. I know it's good shit, just never got the itch to go and get it.
Maybe learning it has a fishing minigame is what finally draws me to it O.O

Those games you mentioned rock too
Bit sad about the Revita 2.0 release not happening. Poor old Ben worked really hard on that
I absolutely love what you're doing with this. Bringing attention to great games that need more attention.
i was waiting to see something about risk of rain
is the roguelike i most like
Tiny Rogues looks like Realm of The Mad God boss fights in every room, and I'm about that.
Revita is great, also ring of pain looks great, brutal orchestra as well,
nova drift is soooo good it still gets badass updates its core gameplay is unique and the upgrade system expands on it flawlessly

Roguebook is a fun deck builder, and it's excellent if you want slay the spire but with a more adventure storybook feel, and a little more chill.
I assume this is the mega-timeline edit you were teasing us with, sounds like a great thing to have exist in the world!
Yessirrrr. Bout a 14 hour production value here
Was on the lookout for this one. You hyped our curiosity.
maybe its just me but I actually think endgame of devil is better than luck be a landlord (even though I also do like LBAL)
You guys gotta play Ember Knights. its still being updated and its a really great roguelike for coop.
Thank you, finally someone who also dislikes Hades. I really couldn't get into the game, not a fan of the gameplay at all
i thought he was joking and then nova drift came up LMAO
Greatest game recommendation video ever this video shd have more views

Fun game but not a roguelike. I did play it a few years ago
Exciting recommendations! I'm must hype for Nova Drift

If people want a game that’s slay the spire but with Magic’s colored mana system, they should check out Touhou Lost Branch if Legend
I’m kind of mad that he said dead cells was overrated because it’s my second favorite rouge like
Check out Space Gladiators then :)
when i saw space gladiators i knew u know your shit that game is a hidden gem

huge huge vouch for spirits abyss, I started playing it recently and it really does scratch that spelunky itch

Great
I love hearing that ftl music in the beginning. My favorite game is all time
