Very good! This is the original film insert that was (I think) used in 'The Scrumpy and Western Show', a pilot presented and featuring Adge Cutler and the Wurzels, with guests The Blue Notes. The programme was shown on the network (BBC1) in 1967 but the videotape was wiped. In 1988, one of my fellow students at Newport Film School Ian Smith found a 16mm film recording positive of the entire show in the film cupboard. We used to cut up old films and use them as spacer. I knew it was an important film as soon as I saw it, so I sent it to the BBC. It is now in their archive! It was also in perfect condition. Perhaps it should be repeated?

Have to say I preferred this earlier, totally acoustic sound of theirs. It's not the same these days, with electric instruments and a full drum kit now featuring.

and around that time, Adge and his family booked a car ferry from Plymouth to Santander, Spain; I was the person who booked it in the travel agency I worked at in Penn St

Ah: virtute et industrial. (Yes I know it should be "industria" but in Brizzel-speak any word that ends in a vowel has an "l" tacked on the end: radiol, ideal (as in good idea), etceteral ------ )

Yes, there is a very good three-part documentary on youtube. Part 1 Adge starting the Wurzels, Part 2 Combine Harvester, Part 3 1990'S

This was the second line-up, with (besides Adge) Reg Chant (dropping the glass - sacrilege! - at 0.42) on accordion, Reg Quantrill (seen at 0.37) on banjo and John Macey ('im with the beard) on double bass. Tuba-player Brian Walker from the original band had left by this time and was not replaced.

Gotta luv the Brissie Brethren.. I’m Somerset born n bred, on the Somerset levels. Brissie was always more important than us cabbage cutters from Somerset, but history does not always tell the real truth or story…early 1700s over one million tonnes of coal dug by hand from Somerset coalfields…World first Caisson Lock invented and operated on the Somersetshire Coal Canal… The Worlds first Sprocket and Chain invented in Somerset at Frome by the Fussels . Roofing tiles and Bathbricks and normal house bricks invented and sent throughout the world…
