    Im only 21, but when Adge gets asked if the younger generations will listen to his songs I can proudly say yes. Long live the Wurzels and long live Adge. Although the young farmers can piss off

    Adge Cutler and the Wurzels, what a great group, the pride of Somerset and the whole of the West Country I am sure. My Dad was a big fan and after hearing 'Drink Up Thee Zider', he bought the album 'Live at the Royal Oak, Nailsea' and it was never off the turntable.
    I remember when they came to Bournemouth, our town, and Dad booked to see them at the Winter Gardens. A brilliant and very funny show, the audience containing many Adge look-alikes and travelling Somerset fans dressed up for the night in all the farm labourer gear. The highlight for me was a bloke in a smock coming on stage with a wheelbarrow full of odourless dried horse manure and a pitchfork, hurling it into the audience during 'Champion Dung Spreader!' It was super, harmless fun but long before Health and Safety of course.
    That would have been in 1967 when I was 19. We saw the band one more time after that, which would have been in 1971 or 1972 at the White Buck pub in Burley, New Forest, another great show and just a few feet from them that time. So sad when he passed away so suddenly, it was a great shock to all.
    The modern day band, although keeping the great Cutler songs alive, to my mind can never equal the golden days of Adge Cutler. He was a true poet of the West Country, a humourist of the finest calibre and a Somerset man through and through who put the County on the map and left us with a batch of great songs to remember him by. I inherited 'Live at Nailsea' when Dad passed and still put it on the turntable now and then, and recommend it to anyone who never saw him live. R,I.P. Adge Cutler.

    My Nan moved to Hinton St George in about 1970 me being a 'Lunun' lad was bored shitless spending a week of the summer holidays with her until a few of the local lads took me to Merriott or Crewkerne (memory) to see Adge Cutler & The Wurzels. 13/14 years old and introduced to 'Scrumpy' They had to carry me most of the 3 miles back down pitch black country lanes, what a night though :)

      Funny enough when searching for them, it also linked the Yorkshire folk group, The Weavers. Found one epic concert which was sadly taken of QQ music.

    I remember seeing Adge & the Wurzels at Downend Cricket Club, Bristol in 1969:- fantastic! I'd like to mention that the Wurzels "Combine Harvester" may have been inspired by Irishman Brendan Grace's hit, but was actually a parody of Melanie's, 1971 song "Brand new Key," which she wrote.

    • @WurzelsFan
      @WurzelsFan  3 роки тому +2

      Brendan Grace’s “Combine Harvester” was a parody of Melanie’s “Brand New Key. The Wurzels basically covered Brendan Grace’s parody, his 1975 release is on UA-cam.

    Combine harvester was one of my favourite songs as a kid growing up in the 90s. I had a "combination songs" cassette tape that had it on and I remember asking for it to be played at one of my birthday party discos when I was 7-8 years old. I'm now 30 years old and still love it. I've only just recently discovered other songs by the wurzels and love them too. Also only recently read online that Adge Cutler died so young, so sad! My Dad is also a (retired) musician and used to be in a rock band called Agnes Strange. He also has the nickname Adge (Alan). He thinks combine harvester is great! Such a catchy tune!

    • @Krzyszczynski
      @Krzyszczynski 10 місяців тому

      A catchy tune indeed, though I should point out that it was written by Melanie Safka; the Wurzels put their own words to it.

    I went into the Royal Oak in Nailsea in 2016 to pay homage to great man by having a pint of cider. Pictures of Adge and Wurzels all over the walls. Thinking to be clever I ordered "a pint of what Adge Cutler would have had please" - and the punk behind the bar said "Who?". Ah well.

    When Noel Edmonds was doing the chart rundown for that week, it was kind of obvious which record would be at No 1, as loud choruses of "OOH AR! OOH AR!" followed each announcement of the last few titles.

It sounds like you might be a brass player yourself. Hi. Looks like it came from a tape. Is there any possibility of improving the copy from the tape? In particular the Great Western Musical Thunderbox clips - I was at a number of recordings of that programme.

    • @WurzelsFan
      @WurzelsFan  6 років тому

      mikeuknz hi, thanks for your comment. Yes it was indeed converted from a VHS tape to DVD and then to this the digital copy. It is a true representation of the quality (inferior I know) of VHS recordings. Having spoken to another fan that recorded the same series back in 1991 and have compared recordings this is as good as it gets. To enhance the quality (if indeed it is possible) would cost a lot of money.
