Your tips are the real deal, can't believe the difference it makes in my singing. I LOVE YOUR ENERGY and EXCITEMENT, it brings energy to my practice, thank you so much
Thanks so much for all your videos! I've taken paid courses and didn't get nearly as much out of them as I've already gotten from your videos. You have become my favorite vocal teacher!
Omg I love your videos! You were born to do this! You’ve helped me soooo much with my voice! It’s night and day!!!!! I will be scheduling a vocal lesson with you
You are just wonderful! In just an evening, I have a better understanding of how I produce quality of sound with my voice, and I know it will make a difference in my singing as I learn to apply it using your exercises. I will be sharing your channel with my singing friends!
Hi, I had previously talked to you about resonance on reddit!! Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you could touch on how to handle mucus and how it affects resonance/cord closure?
Yes, I remember our conversation. I just want to repeat for the sake of others that if you develop more mucus when you sing, that is usually a sign of irritation at the vocal folds, meaning you might be squeezing, pressing or pushing. I have lots of videos about that too. The better one's technique is, the better one can sing through minor difficulties. Resonance, particularly upper resonance, gives the voice more "cut". Of course, do not sing if you are sick, hoarse or have a sore throat. As far as the mucus itself, nasal irrigation helps, as well as over the counter mucus thinners. If it is really a problem, though, you should consult with a doctor.
Hello Victoria, another fantastic video. I wanted to ask you specifically about phonation-- how do you eliminate breathiness in the voice? I noticed that breathiness tends to creep into my voice, especially as I ascend the scale. I have also noticed that at times, my voice will break into a sort of vocal fry when I'm sustaining a note, which leads me to think that my issues may have something to do with the cords not approximating/adducting cleanly (but of course I can't be sure (: ). Do you have any suggestions for how to address these kinds of issues? Thanks so much in advance.
Hi, Yllek! First, make sure your vocal folds are healthy. As far as technique, without seeing or hearing you, it sounds like an imbalance in coordination at the vocal folds and possibly insufficient support. I recommend that you watch my video on The Beginner's Lesson (whether or not you are a beginner). ua-cam.com/video/WH_OV7yEDf4/v-deo.html I cover speaking and singing with a clear tone and do exercises like sirens and humming into a vowel. Those would probably be good exercises for you. If you have not watched my video on breath support, I would be sure to watch that too. ua-cam.com/video/WR2772TGrgo/v-deo.html. I will make a video on breathy singing. It is on my list. :)
Hii, I have a signing performance in two weeks and whenever I practise, I notice that when trying to reach high notes or belting I can hear and feel mucus in the back of my mouth, making my voice sound really sick and unpleasant. Please help me! -I Love your videos too haha
Mucus that gets worse with singing is generally a sign of irritation. See my playlist on Throat, Tongue and Jaw tension. Also, see my playlist on Better High Notes.
Hi could you do a video on how to deal with polyps vocal nodules and acid reflux how to fix it and how it affects vocal chords i have that and i don't know what to do :( love your videos btw
I can only comment on healthy singing because the rest is a medical issue. I hope you have seen an ENT and have gotten good medical advice. When you are cleared by your doctor to resume singing, I would start back slowly, making sure that you practice and maintain good technique. If you can work privately with a teacher, that would be best. I have lots of videos that can help you. Thank you for commenting.
My vocal chords are shot away, as if frayed, crackly and weak. Is there anything that can help smoothing my singing voice apart from eating chalk (joking). Many thanks. Gaby
