I am an alumni of Univ of Ceylon Colombo campus but there was no politics in that era - 1962-1965. In 1994 my son got admission to Univ of Colombo Science Faculty and was selected to read for a special degree in Physics. He got Studentship Award after 1st year exam and did very good work till finals and had excellent results but was denied a First class for which he had enough good grades. At a Board Meeting quickly called up three lecturers objected to his first - What Tharindu says is 100% correct and so true - I filed a court case and exposed these corrupt lecturers and their wrong doings. Fortunately, among these rogues thee was a strightforward lecturer in Maths who directed him and a few bright students to apply for US Univs in his 3rd year with 3rd year transcripts & got full schol and has completed his PhD and Post Doc and is a Associate Professor in Experimental Physics at a prestigious US Univ. As a doctoral student he was a Teaching assistant & was awarded Excellence in Teaching Award every consecutive year - so Sri Lanka lost a very good teacher. He was victimized. As Tharindu says the kelam karayas won the day and they were cheats who copied practical records from senior students whereas my son was not into such roguish activities. So he was victimized through and through. Great Tharindu for the exposure ..would like to make contact to show how much I managed to expose this crooked system. They gave a First Class to a girl who was mediocre and where her grade B at 3rd year was changed to an A by a Physics guy known for astrophysics clips taken off the internet and posing as his own work. He was/maybe still is an ace kelam ahanna and had a band of kelam karayas and gotta allanas around him - his marriage was broken and he was a frustrated guy. @@ravindundhananjaya4822 Pl see my articles to The Island in recent years about the underlying reasons etc., for rag. It was after a male student in SJP Univ was seriously injured by ragsters rolling a huge tractor tire over his head. The SJP big wigs, VC and former VC and lecturers are all past alumni of the same Univ. There is just one professor - Prof Dr. Sujeewa who is fearless and dealt with force and stopped ragging at U of Ruhuna - fortunately he had the support of few lecturers and officers to raid an area banned by the raggers and which no VC dared to go in till then. Cheers Tharindu, and your two friends on panel and compere Ravindu for this super exposure - especially the 'academics' based rag. They are the worst offenders.
