Reverence was my first PWD album and I loved every single minute of it. But as I went down the PWD rabbit hole and explored more of their earlier work, I started to understand why ppl weren't so positive about Ire and Reverence and even I began to wish their next album would sound more like the older stuff, with some fresh sprikles of Ire/Reverence. So now we're here, 2 songs in, basically a Reverence 2.0 and although this one song is kinda a jammer on its own, I'm not hyped whatsoever for the full length... as you said: "11 songs of this and I'll be sleeping at the end" pretty much sums it perfectly

Other than the fact that any intermediate guitar player could play all of their new riffs, I get why they wanted to evolve as a band. Only thing I don't get is why limit yourself with basic instrumentals.. It' no where near the same type of sound, but take Thrice for exemple. They expanded their experimentation and even tho I don't enjoy some of their newer stuff as much as their older material, I respect the shit out of these guys. I'm sorry, but to me, offering a watered version of your old sound with weird spoken vocals is not an "evolution". If people found ways to enjoy this, I'm happy for them, but as a fan of music in general, I'm having a hard time accepting a band I enjoyed so much, decide to play some lame rock riffage and odd vocal style. But yet again, as long as they love what they do, it's all that matters.

    • @Sykokinetic
      @Sykokinetic 2 роки тому +3

This is what I’m saying. Evolution for a band - there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Nothing. But why make the conscious choice to evolve your sound and just go with the most basic and generic thing you can? I don’t get it.

Thing that pisses me off about thrice and AFI. Both bands got worse at guitar. Jade use to be awesome and have his own style. Now he’s like every other alternative rock guitarist. Teppei use to be a shredder, now he plays stuff that is so simplistic

@@centralia83 Yeah I get what you mean. I guess they really outgrowned the post-hardcore riffage sound. Teppei mentioned it many times that he's not motivated to play this type of music anymore. He's clearly more into alternative rock indie type of stuff. But, I still think the way he plays and the time signature he uses is a lot more intricate and experimental compared to those lame ass rock riffs from Parkway haha.

We're not asking for more Horizon, we just miss the sound that was present in Killing with a Smile, Horizons, Deep Blue, and Atlas. Winstons unclean vocals were primal and vicious. The guitar tones were flexible when switching between brutal and beautiful riffs. Since Ire, they have had this weird metallic guitar tone that weakens riffs and Winstons whispery attempts at clean vocals are cheesey and forced. It just feels like they have neutered and diluted their sound rather than evolve it. Us old fans are just disappointed that Parkway Drive is capable of making amazing music and have chosen to play simple arena bland stuff instead.

My personal opinion is the older I get, I gravitate toward this style of parkway drive more than their earlier work. They tried to tour in the States but cancelled all shows for personal reasons. The personal reason to me was hardly no ticket sales because there is zero radio play for them. I discovered parkway drive from a girl guitar player covering Wild Eyes. I explored their music and became a fan instantly. They are getting older so if dialing down their tone to get radio play is what they have to do, then do it. I was totally bummed when they cancelled twice around my area. More people need to discover these guys because they are pretty awesome.

respect to you for ya honest opinion and not ripping shreds off the song just because you personally don't enjoy it and its parkway

Very Amon Amarth/sabaton kind of sound. Really liked glitch and this is not bad, I will definitely enjoy this album and I'm sure will sound big live but not going to top Ire and Reverence I'm pretty sure of that.

Gatekeeping is when someone tries to prevent others from considering themselves a fan of something just because they haven’t met some arbitrary requirement. You are not guilty of this whatsoever.

I think those comments are from him saying he has liked them for a long time and he is not a fan of the new stuff. I think those comments are coming from the mentality of "I've been here longer so I know better and this is not better" it's really specific but I get it. And you can gatekeep in a lot of ways, not saying he did, but I think those comments are from the POV that he knows what "good PWD" is because he's liked them for a long time. Idk. Only way I can understand those types of comments. Perhaps they are also implying that he is trying to gatekeep people from liking new PWD just because he doesn't which IS a form of gatekeeping, and can be a form of social pressure as well, but he normally is open minded about stuff even if he doesn't like it so the comments are still a bit off regardless.

I completely with your opinion with you on this. I've been listening to them since 05, and this is hard to digest for me, both Glitch and this song doesn't really appeal to me, I'm am still interested in listening to the album when it comes out though

I kind of liked this album. I didn't get into metal through metalcore, and I never got into parkway drive before. The key for me was that I don't think of this as metalcore. It seems like slower standard heavy metal and I'm just as much a fan of that.

I have enjoyed everything from Killing With a Smile and up to Reverence, I wouldnt call either of the new singles bad, but it just aint it for me. When you know what they can do and you get this, its disappointing. You said it nicely, "happy they are not slaves to their genre". Happy they are pumping out the music they want to. Id be lying if I said I was fired up for the album, but will give it a fair shake because Parkway is the fkn goat.

Also you seem to have the best take usually. Nik would’ve been banging his head and raging the whole time like it changed his life. Only reaction I didn’t care for was for the newest wage war album, since the album was actually well done and one of their better works, but once my seven year old daughter said “is this the same band?” Yes it is. “I thought so, every song sounds exactly the same” I realized that regardless of how good it actually was, it was just more of the same old recipe and it was a few years too late to be fully appreciated. Anyways, cheers, I’m done rambling.

I’m so confused as to why people think ire is an arena rock album. Ok so maybe songs like writings on the wall, and vice grip are kinda arena rock for them. But the rest of the songs are fairly heavy. Yeah they have been heavier in the past. But I thought ire was a great album. And this is coming from someone who has been with parkway drive since the beginning. Songs like dying to believe and dedicated are bangers and are pretty heavy.

I don't mind their new style, But the soft instruments mixed with Winstons heavy vocals just dont work for me, Winston is one of the best modern screamers, But his soft vocals are not good enough for this style, I feel this will be their crossroad, They want to transition as find a new sound, but its one they don't suit.
Defo see the Hail to the king/Another brick in the wall vibe to it.
Not a bad song but not good either

A bit more grit on the guitar and bass tones and I think it would be way better. It feels like if this was a debut album for a band I'd be keeping an eye on to see how their sound matures. But with it being a band that have done so much good music it feels like a let down.
