Small Boat Fishing - South Coast - Tope and Rays 1 - Warrior 165

  • In this video I motor my small fishing boat "molly-moo" over 20 miles to head south of the Isle of Wight and to a favourite fishing mark. Within minutes of setting my anchor I am joined by 2 charter boats and lined up shoulder to shoulder we all set about some interesting fishing.
    I have some issues of holding ground with such a strong tidal pull and a small cut that refuses to stop bleeding but the outcome was all worth the effort.
    The Warrior 165 is a perfect fishing boat for UK inshore waters and balances size, weight, capability and performance in a compact and manageable package. A fuel burn at cruising speed (18 knots) of 0.8litre/Nm solo with fishing kit. I generally calculate 1 litre/Nm to allow for weather conditions and tide.
    Easily launched solo from a sheltered slipway or with 2 from a more technical launch and very predictable characteristics out on the water. Trim is important and molly-moo has the factory additional 5 degree trim plate.
    Anchoring can be carried out through the forward hatch but I prefer in most cases to anchor from the Stbd aft corner using a lazy line connected fwd. An Alderney retrieval including ring, A2 buoy and triangle make for an easy evolution.

    Another great video. I always have used the lift and drop back method especially in the many species comps I've done and differently on certain marks. Mostly lifting from just a couple of inches to probably 12inches.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  2 роки тому

      The movement can quite often promote a take or even set the hook of a fussy fish. The tide was racing for most of this session and so the tales were quite aggressive.

    • @andycollings4302
      @andycollings4302 2 роки тому +1

      I've found that when the tide is pulling quite hard tope often give slight drop back bite, because they are going uptide. Ok they like to run across tide the charge off down tide.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  2 роки тому

      @@andycollings4302 it is the sideways run that played havoc with my lines on this session but I’ve had time to think about it and I made a simple mistake easily solved. The centre rods should have had heavier weights and pinned closer. The wing rods should have been lighter and sent further back. I think this would have reduced tangles and something I didn’t think through on the day. To be fair it was hard enough holding bottom.

    • @andycollings4302
      @andycollings4302 2 роки тому +1

      That's the way I do it. When I'm out on my own I only use 2 rods, and when out with my mate or son we only fish 1 rod each. Maybe put 1 in the middle just to get the scent trail going for 5 - 10 mins. I've an Antares 6 which is a fraction wider than a warrior so charging tope aren't quite as problematic.
