Absolutely beautiful coins, I have a half spade Guinea from the first year the spade design was used, it's not a high grade maybe a fair to good but I love it, the shield design before the spade is a beautiful design then to sovereigns, I love the George and the dragon design's. Danny P do you know where I could buy such coins please? I collect bullion gold and silver but in the last few years taken a huge interest in British gold. Have many Victorian and newer Sovs and half’s but would like to source some older gold. Any good online dealers please

I'm not sure if that will be of any use as I dont know your location there is also Stanely Gibbons up the road on the Strand. Let me wake up a little and I'll have a bit more of a think. The gold guinea is much more interesting then the sovereign, although both are nice. Both the guines you show, look as if they have been plugged. If so, not worth trying to get them slabbed.

Hi numi just purchased a full gold spade guinea 1798 iam pretty new to the guinea and the condition is vf to ef iam amazed on the condition how clean it is for its age iam thinking its a restrike or do they exists I have weight it and the diameter is correct 8.4 grams and 25mm noticed on the lettering and numbers we're shaved type affect on the 111 above the head and to the G bottom left I have no way of knowing if its real or ther made like this some info would be appreciated could be panicking the coin is as clean as the ones on the video beautiful coins I must say look forward to more videos ❤

Can you tell me whether sovereigns are a good idea for American collectors? I love the look and history of European gold coins, especially the sovereign, more than the mass produced recent American ones.
Fun fact: In Egypt (where I grew up) where the local currency is the Egyptian Pound, the Arabic word used for Pound is officially “Gunayh” but is colloquially pronounced “Guinea” or “Guineh”. You can guess where the word was borrowed from. 😉😎👍 Here’s another equally fun fact: You might be interested to know that after the currency reform in Egypt in the year-if I'm not mistaken-1834, the Egyptian 20 Piaster silver coin was struck to the same weight and purity standard as the Maria Theresa Thaler, namely, 28 grams of .833 fine (i.e. 20/24 or 20k) silver. This same specification remained in force until 1955, when the Egyptian silver coinage was reformed again, and the 20 Piaster coin was minted as a 14 gram piece of .720 fine silver between 1956-1966 (from 1967 onwards, all silver was removed from Egypt's circulated coinage). Incidentally, from at least 1834 to this day, 20 Piasters is still referred to in Egypt as a "Riyal", no doubt as a reference to the Spanish and Latin American 8 Reales coin (i.e. the Reales Columnaria), which was functionally equivalent to the Thaler and was inspired by it, both of these having been used as trade coinage in the Middle East. Thus, the old silver 20 Piasters=a silver Riyal=a silver MT Thaler=an 8 Reales=a silver Dollar. Pretty cool stuff!

Who would have ever thought during the time of their mintage that gold coins used for every day expenses would one day be worth as much as they are now or even how much they will be worth in the future? I guess the quantity made was relative to the population and expected usage. Somewhat similar to today’s expectations, perhaps, common circulation coins will be much more valuable, even with mintages in the billions, in the future for their rarity. So... Try to save a few brand new common coins for your relatives so they might have a small fortune in the future from your small contribution today.
Would love all of these but i dont see them often on my local forum or fb group i am a part of so would not be easy for me to price and also not super liquid to sell

I just learned from the metal detecting world that hr brits have a very similar coin to the Aussie sov, I've been into metal detecting for 2 years seen many channels even many British hunters and only now I'm hearing one talk about the guinea lol, yeah bit unusual considering I've been following 19 different British metal detecting UA-cam channels and not fuçking one talked of the guinea in ANY of their videos, so does that mean there's not as many guineas to be found? So they don't disgusts it? 🤔 From what I understand there is plenty of Aussie gold sovs out where waiting to be found and even now ppl still finding them

The great British guinea is a wonderful coin, much more interesting then the the boring sovereign.
And they are beautiful in design, and much more interesting then the boring sovereign. They cost a lot to buy, but well worth going for.
