But what about someordinarygamers? :(
Ever heard of Digital Foundry? :-)
Digital Foundry's "lens" example with the light coming through a little hole blew my mind
Well he understands how difficult it is and how well made this is.
It's more of a real world demonstration, if you can call it that.

I totally agree. I had no interest in RTX until now. Because I know Phil gives it to us straight and I really trust his considered opinions.

wow. just wow. I've watched all the big 5 mil minecraft youtubers, and they are always like, oh, looks pretty, lets build a house! But 2klicks never dissapoints, even though he's not a minecraft youtuber, he's made a work of art of a video. With his classic analytic style, with time laps, benchmarks, and info we didn't know, and his funny and creative spin on everything. Your house may not be a work of art, but you seem like you genuinely enjoyed making it, and I found it fun to tour the wacky house and see what was inside. Honestly one of my favorite minecraft videos ever.
That's because this is a ray tracing video that's using Minecraft, not a Minecraft video.

Now if this game had some more impressive sound design this would be such an immersive experience. Can you also imagine this in VR?
Ray tracing can also be applied to sound sources, give every block a sound absortion value and you will get some immersive cave-like sounds for example.
I've seen a video of a mod for realistic sound physics. That was brilliant, hands down.
Try dynamic surroundings with sound filters. Also replacing the openAL in mc with a newer one that allows HRTF. It's magical.
It also really needs a mod that let's you illuminate your surroundings with an off-hand tool. Placing torches in a pitch black cave to guide your way is actually a horrible experience. Also it would look really cool watching your torch illuminate a dark cave as you're passing through it
@@andrewgodly5739 You can carry a torch in your off hand already.

@illogicalrelish but my pc cant even run minecraft without shaders on 30fps
With the next-gen consoles having raytracing hardware support, then it’s going to get alot more common :)
Shouldn’t take more than one console generation before it should become a normal feature on atleast midrange and above Graphics cards.
Unless, ofcourse, it stays expensive.
Or developers just for some reason choose to completely ignore it
you know whats funny im playing Quake 2 RTX on my potatoe pc thanks to geforce now, i just wish this minecraft was on there then i dont think id ever buy a new PC again hehe, sure its not as good as a real PC for fast response shooters but good enough for what im playing (which is a shoooter by the way) and I think it would be even more suited to game like minecraft, id check that out if you cant wait to get a PC, its only $5 a month well if you want the RTX option, otherwise its basically free with a time limit and no RTX, thing is you cant have potatoe internet.
The train ride showcase reminds me so much of Half Life 1's Tram ride. Just going through and experiencing something completely new.
Funny thing is that's exactly what the tram ride in HL1 was. It was just valve showing off their new assets and models and such.
The tram ride in a nutshell:
"Weird flex but OK"

im not, they dont get to see the progression that minecraft has gone through which imo is truely more amazing to experience
They are not lucky I played Minecraft in real life while these kids play it with blocks on pc. Kids these days will never know how it feels to be a child worker in mines.
@@iiRoot_ I would actually argue something different. The game feels kind of messy right now. Progression has been screwed up with time, and really they should rebalance the game. The biomes feel cheap and clunky, very samey and boring. I think the game has generally gone in the right direction, but has made many faults that stop the average player from diving as deep into the game as I did back in 2011. And that is a fact. Most of my friends who I am positive would have spent hundreds of hours messing around with mechanics, and enjoy doing it in other games, have gotten bored, because currently they have patched all the fun glitches out or removed functions and instead added more dungeons and structures, which means your initial reaction is that it's awesome, but it quickly wears off and all you're left with is an empty world, with repeating structures and boredom.
@@thennoth2860 I agree. After 1.8 I think less effort was put into making this game fun. Whenever my friends tell me to hop on their vanilla server on the latest version I always refuse. Anything below 1.8 was basic but fun and mods and plugins were really creative and enjoyable.
@@thennoth2860 I would agree. The main issue is they are focusing on style over substance. New building blocks are great, but building a house or tower over and over can't compare to finding new ways of playing with a new mechanic. I think they are adding decent things recently, but still kinda meh.

bruh minecraft has been very poorly optimized for years
what do you mean? plenty of modpacks now require 12gb ram as a minimum. i upgraded my last pc from 4gb to 8gb just to play minecraft. do you only play vanilla?
@@joshuapaul1715 I don't think it's poorly optimised, just very underestimated with how hard it can be to run. If it was poorly optimised for years then I have a feeling that it wouldn't really be popular. Nobody likes getting fps drops all the time even on a beast PC, and in this case, if you have a good PC (obviously subjective to what stands for as "good") you can play without any issues. Poor optimisation also means that it would suck on any PC, or, most PCs. I didn't write this out to argue, just wanted to help you understand the differences with poor optimisation, and something being difficult to run because of how beefy the game is.

PTGI doesn't use RT cores so that's why it's slower - but it could run on MUCH more types of videocards.
Pros and cons.
@@igorthelight If only the creator of SEUS PTGI (and the creator of Continuum RT for that matter) would actually try to make it run properly on AMD cards, then maybe it'd be better. But as it is, they either run like garbage on non-Nvidia hardware or don't work at all. Not to mention that they don't look nearly as good as the DXR implementation in the Bedrock edition, so overall I'd say they are worse. A shame that the developer of SEUS PTGI doesn't really care about AMD much, took him a year into the development of PTGI to get an AMD card to test on, even though by that time he was already making loads of cash from the development of it (he makes about $66.000 PER MONTH as of this comment).
Hey! Just a question. Is this being added into normal Minecraft?
my favorite minecraft raytrace video so far :) great work on that one
You are the first person I've seen that actually showcased the strengths of RTX. I've seen a lot of videos where people were showing off stuff that could be done with GLSL shader mods 5 years ago, like god-rays and water reflections. While those are cool, shadows and reflections on objects is where RTX really shines. GLSL shaders always had issues with placing shadows incorrectly (you can stand in a closed-off cave 100m underground and have sunlight hit you suddenly), and anything more complex than water reflections is out of the question with them. RTX actually simulates the shadows, so the experience is much more consistent. Reflections are probably my favorite, though. They add a lot of depth to the world, without being too jarring. And working mirrors are a nice addition too.
Obviously, there are still issues, but those are more of an artistic concern, rather than a programming one. Water could be improved, that from Sildur's Shader mod is much nicer than what they made for the beta. In general some tweaks will be required to make the look of the game more consistent. The underground/indoors sections are really nice, and then when you walk outside everything turns into a Lego set light with a 10000W light bulb, and everything looks flat. Shadows should be emphasized some more, so that there is greater contrast when the sun is lower down. Also it would be useful to have those features in Java Edition, but we will see if such conversion will be possible.
"Also it would be useful to have those features in Java Edition, but we will see if such conversion will be possible."
