Hi Doc and Adam, that was a really good informative test, something john Ward would be proud of ;-), I've got several of those in referent tool bags including my plumbing bags, Kewtech was my favourite too, until I loaned it out and came back with no buzzer, another £50 down the drain when I bought it, I've also got the socket & see, with no trip loop test for quick check on the health of the sockets. Nicely done lad's. Peter.
Your future is definitely in teaching doc, well done mate. The ethos one was designed by dishonest sparks looking for extra work. After having numerous socket testers nicked out of my tool bag on site or losing one because it has no audible beep I bought a chicken dinner one about five years ago. I got so much stick from other sparks, because it was cheap and nasty, but it still works and no one has nicked it. I like the “katch it ere”one where did you get it from mate.
Thanks for the review guys, Kewtech also do a socket tester with RCD testing & "Earth Fault Loop Impedance test" it's a little pricey but it works great.
Hi EF and thanks for the comment. Yes I realised that hardly any tester would've picked up that fault, but apparently there is a tester on the market that can, it's mentioned in the comments. Thanks for watching 👍
If the earth is live the screws are the least problem as all the grounded cases will gt the voltage. It has two lights on as they represent line-neutral and line-earth. Neutral-earth is not on. 9:55 If you touch the pad the LCD will show if there is over 50 V on the earth.
@@TheAdamEdward my view is it works or it don't, not point in technical. Tell doc your worth £4000 a week because I said your the brains of the outfit 👍👍
Hi, Great to see the comparisons. Can the 3 pin plug be rotated 180 Deg on the HT107E Kacheer or any for that mater as in Australia all our wall sockets have the Earth pin at the bottom which would mean the display is upside down to read.
Have u guys ever fitted bg outside brushed steel sockets? My trusty socket and see and kew tech won’t fit into those sockets. I reckon the only one that would is the chicken dinner 👍
I've still got an older yellow socket n see the thing I like best about it you can hear it any whare in say a 3bed house while finding the socket circuit your looking for even from upstairs with your head stuck in a mb cupboard really loud 👍
I had a Kewtech 105 which is the next model up from the 103 shown in the video, the LED’s are bi-coloured and they all light up. I replaced it with the Socket and See and prefer it more than the Kewtech.
Labgear, Draper, chicken dinner did you give them 1 or 2 points for L missing, as I noticed on the zoom in, the stickers on those three did say no lights on "Live Fault" 😎
I’ve had my socket and see unit for over 10 years. Is a great socket tester. Personally I don’t see the point of these newer ones with added features buy I obviously carry a multifunction for other tests like loop and RCD
My Martindale has a buzzer. From what I remember it was only a few quid more than the basic one. You'll not find a plug-in tester that will identify n-e reverse on a PME as they are both at the same potential. The Ethos tester looks exactly like the Socket & See base model socket tester (just rebranded).
The Schneider does pick reverse bootleg ground. You touch the pad and it tells if there is voltage on the ground contact. Normal bootleg ground is very hard to tell. You should measure the resistance.
It''s really nice to test this socket testers. But the sound effect by the KKMoon is 1 or 2 time funny but not the whole video. Anyways nice to see the functions of all the testers
i don't understand why sound so important, i personally didn't like sound one, this is more personal preference. But if this is turn on/off options of sound it can be +points. first place not look cheap on video at least. Great review
If you had earth neutral revetsed on an RCD protected circuit it would trip immediately on any load. Teh only thing that would not trip it is the test button on the tester.
I bought the Schneider and it isn’t tripping my RCD when I press the “Test” button. Do all sockets on the same circuit need to have devices unplugged for it to work?
You don't need to remove other devices. The RCD has to work regardless how many devices are connected. If the RCD doesn't react, your RCD is broken or the tester is wrong. To check this try the tester in an other circuit with RCD.
If you have half-rectified leakage between L-E some RCD not work then or even with test button. Turn RCD OFF an ON and test with button when OK tester is bad (if L-N not reversed). When test with button failed unplug everything and try turn OFF and ON again test with button if still nothing RCD is BAD if it work with button not with tester - tester is BAD if Earth in socket is connected.
Great review but not entirely fair as you have some basic testers up against advance testers. All advance tester have things like RCD test, loop test etc, they tend to be more expensive as they have additional features. Kewtech have a basic tester, an advanced tester and a professional tester.

on the HT107E , the right LED is lit even though i haven't switched the socket on yet. And the other two on the left is faintly lit. WHen I switch the socket on, it shows normal wiring. Any Idea?
@@DoctorElectricUA-cam If there was a load on the circuit they could measure the voltage difference to the line. Neutral would have a volt or two less. This would not work if all the sockets were done reversed.

“If you leave off the covers then the rcd will trip because it’s live and people will touch it tripping the rcd and that protects people” is ridiculous and you know it. If the rcd works, it would work just as well when the customer touches the appliance that has then become live because of the fault as it does when the customer touches the screw. It’s not like the screws are connected via a protective resistor or anything like that. Also missing from your fault board is options where certain voltages are present on multiple pins - most usefully, live on two of the three pins due to weirdness. Admittedly it’s not “someone mixed up the wires somewhere” common but it could happen.
