I’ve been critical of this team and coaching over quite a few years now, I’m rapt that they learnt something about themselves particularly over these last two weeks, I can’t now see a shaft of light into the future. Well done to all involved today.👏👍

Still, we saw another example of Sam's 'defensive too early' with eight minutes to go until the half time break. He sent Hardwick and Day back and kept a spare off the back of the centre square for around six-seven minutes. Brisbane scored three goals despite this plan. The late goal for us, the Hawks, right on half time was a gift and lucky against the coaching moves. Begin the third quarter and the plan was almost the same....no tight tag on Lachie Neale and extras on the ball to try to 'shut down' the Lions fast ball movement and their ability to kick scores quickly. For our part we should thank Brisbane for their shoddy kicking at goal. 3.7 in the third quarter was telling. Had they kicked straight we'd have lost, I'm sure of this. The final four minutes of the third quarter the senior players lead by James Sicily threw off that defensive plan and we took the game on and scored against the run of play. At the three quarter time break I can guarantee the leaders said "f√ck this defending shite! Let's play our game to our best abilities....back your mates in." Look at the result. 5 goals 2 to 2 goals 3 in the final QTR and we sing the song all happy and smiling. Dildo was huge today. His bloodied face reminded me of Leigh Matthews circa 1980 with that classic photo of blood and mud. Moore throws everything at his footy and he deserves the captaincy in my eyes. Sicily is a great defender and leader but isn't captain material. Just my opinion. I liked what he said in his interview after the game, not verbatim, but to the effect of "we just said in the huddle that we didn't want to play anymore defensive style footy and we wanted to run, gun and let our skills, talent and teamwork do the talking" or words to that effect. Look at the difference as opposed to that insipid 'follow the coaches orders regardless of failure to score' in the last four minutes of the third QTR and the entire final QTR against Port. Poor coaching cost us the four points last week. Not lack of experience. It's day and night. Chalk and cheese. Hawks members, supporters and fans want to see higher scoring, gut busting running and exciting play where we take on the opposition and, if we lose, we lose playing our 'brand' not 'guarding grass playing bruise free' defensively minded footy.
      CARN the MIGHTY HAWKS!!

Why have you been critical since Clarkson left? Blind Freddy could see that Sammy was leading us where we want to go.

We'll give the Crows a bath if we play our brand and not any defensive, slow down tactics. Play to win...we win. Play to defend a lead...we lose. It's not that difficult really.

Fagan is tipped to take the head coaching role in Tassie during the early squad development and list construction phase. He was superb when at our club at identifying young and middle aged talent to bring to the club. I cannot say enough positives about Chris Fagan. People underestimate his lifting of Brisbane from a losing and damaged position. He brought Luke Hodge out of retirement, for two seasons averaging 18+ disposals per game, to help develop leaders in the locker room and Fagan gave Grant Birchall an extra two years in which he really helped teach the young running backmen a lot of top level skills while averaging 20+ disposals a game at the end of his stellar career for the Hawks. To play 287 games and win four premierships Birchall was super important to the Lions. Hodge...well he needs no pump up as he's one of the all time greats of not only Hawthorn but the AFL. Not many players, play 346 games, win four flags, three as club captain and two Norm Smith Medals. I'd argue he was robbed of a third Norm Smith in 2015 when Cyril was given a 'first half' Norm Smith. I will never begrudge Cyril his Normie but Hodge was easily better across the entire 2015 Grand Final. Fagan and Brendan Gale will build a solid team and attract good quality mainland players south as Fagan is a proven successful coach at Hawthorn and Brisbane and Gale has been a stalwart at the Tigers for nearly thirty years as a player and administrator. Fagan would most likely hand over the developed list in 2028-9 to a younger coach and move into a coaching panel role or list management before he retires as a happy and very wealthy man.
