Thanks for this video! I’ve spent hours looking for a good comprehensive comparison between these two bikes and this was very enjoyable to watch. You’re easy to listen to
Good stuff Gene! A fair comparison. For me, the Scout Bobber was a no brainer. The price point, aesthetics, power and especially the versatility of it. It’s probably the most wide ranged bike out there as far as what it can transform into. And I will add that it’s a bike for everybody. As you mentioned, someone shorter than you would be quite comfortable on it and myself, I’m 6’5”. I do have 10” apes and the extended reach forward controls which are 2” more forward than what you rode, and I have no complaints of fitment or comfort. Thanks for the plug! Be safe.
I’d love to try those 10” apes. I bet the bike is much more comfortable with them. Totally agree, the Scout is so versatile and practically anybody would be happy on it. Thanks for watching, Father!
My big questions: Is the shorter suspension travel of the Indian noticeable? Are the dual disk front brakes of the Bonneville substantially better? I feel like I would lean toward the Bonneville if it were better in those two areas.
I didn’t notice either. However, I’m just your regular rider and I didn’t push the scout to its limits. On Father Bobber’s Indian scout bobber I did notice the suspension being a lot stiffer and less forgiving, but that’s kind of the nature of that bike.
This the first of your videos I've seen. I like your style. Informative, honest, and funny. I'm an Indian rider and therefore the sportster comparison antics cracked me up.
The Indian looks good, but IMHO you made the right choice in getting the Bonneville T120...Fantastic bike, that's great to tour on with a windshield and bags.
Both are nice looking bikes, the Bonneville reminds me of the imports of the 70s, so think I have to go with the Scout with the more Classic American Motorcycle look although never riding either I have to take test ride to make final decision. So was the test ride up around Hoover Damn? I put a lot of miles down around that lake when I lived in Ohio. Have fun and be safe.
I have a 2016 Indian Scout and it's a great bike. I've had the opportunity to take my Scout across the United States for a trip total of 6,500 miles. I will say that the biggest problem is that the Scout becomes unbearably uncomfortable after two to three hours of riding. It also has a tiny tank and you will need to refuel every 100 - 120 miles depending on how you're riding. Another thing is that all of the side bag options are too small to fit anything substantial in them. Overall, it's a great bike for short trips and has a good amount of torque.
I loved my Octane and my Speed Twin. Both are almost what you are comparing. I had bad luck with both Triumphs I’ve had. The last warranty repair had my Speed Twin transmission stuck in 4th gear. After that I felt like it was time for a more reliable bike. I had sold my Octane before I got the Speed Twin. I sold it mainly because the suspension wasn’t that great.
as someone also with a bonnie 120, i was like if i ever had to get a cruiser i think the scout bobber would be my choice, and lo and behold the best of both worlds with this video, so shoutout to you for making a great vid. definitely subscribing.
I tested both the Scout and T120 before buying the T120. The only issue I had with the Scout was blandness. It's got the looks, but perhaps lacks the character. Of course, character is difficult to define and, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. That said, once you find it for you, I'd put it among the very top buying considerations along with comfort (I mean, does anyone really have fun on a bike while they're uncomfortable?).
Great comparison. T120 for me because I've had a chance to ride my dad's and I love it. I don't have any opportunity to ride a Scout, though I would love to. Seems like a great bike, too.
I would go with the Indian Scout. I like the look of it and being down low into the bike. The seat look pretty comfortable to me from here. Be good and be safe!!
I wouldn’t even have to ride either bike to make my choice. Triumph boneville all the way! I freaking love the old school cool of those bonevilles! I don’t like the scout. I’m sure it’s a fantastic bike. I know people love those scouts and for good reason, but it’s not for me. I just can’t get into the scout. If you ride one then that’s awesome! Ride what you love! I love those old school, classic, bikes. Don’t get me wrong, if you gave me a scout I would definitely ride it, but I could never buy one for myself.
If it were me I’d pick the Scout because at 4’10” I am way too short for a Bonneville! I ended up choosing a Rebel 1100 DCT as my first bike based partially on your review. Stay safe out there!!
Kind of funny. I just took delivery of same exact bike, ( March 8th ) and same color also. Coming up to 65, so I figured if I am getting another bike, I better do it soon. Only have 150 miles on it so far due to unpredictable WI weather, but absolutely love every mile so far. Came from 75 Sportster, and 81 Sturgis. Have not been on a bike in the last 15 yrs. or so, but it all came back in a few minutes. I agree with everything you touched on. Bike seems to have an ass-load of power, if you need it. I need to adjust shocks some, as @ 225# the shocks don't cut it at current setting. I may be a little out of touch, but Indian is not bashful about getting full $ for accessories / parts. Either way, I am very impressed so far with the bike. Mike
Great video Gene! I test drove the T100 Black at Iron Pony last weekend, and although not EXACTLY like the T120, I fell in love with that incredible bike! However, I ended up purchasing the Street Twin, because at $1400 less, I thought it was a better value (and had the same engine). I had them add the knee tank pads and also the bar end mirrors, of which you are showing both of those additions on your new bike. I love ALL the Triumph bikes. They just shout "quality" from head to toe! 👍🏍
I own a 2005 t100 but honestly, there's no comparison to a v engine verses an inline. The bike can be thinner. Less chance of engine burn. Sorry, but the V engine with carbs in between is definitely more looks appealing. I've had a 75, CB 750 four, a Kawasaki kx 550, both inline 4s. A VMAX V 4, and a Suzuki gt 500 2 sttoke, like the Triumph Bonneville, a side by side twin. All rode well looked good,in their way. But liked the VMAX side view more cause of the V engine. And come on. There's no touring comfort better than forward controls. The VMAX didn't have that. More dragster than tourer. Love the Indian. But also love the Bonneville and classic bike look.
Hey Peter, definitely some thoughtful considerations there; thanks for watching and engaging! I agree people are going to love one or the other based on what they like about motorcycling!
Great video gene! I have GOT to test ride an Indian now lol. Without riding either, I think the bonneville is such a unique looking bike! I do think the sportster looks better than the scout but you can’t beat the power Indian puts in their bikes. To me it’s like a Jeep Wrangler vs 4 Runner. I love the roughness of my Jeep lol. Solid comparison :)
Thank you! You definitely do need to take one out. They’re a ton of fun! Especially when they’ve been retuned and have the loudest exhaust ever on them (@Father Bobber) hahaha
Great video, girl - I haven’t seen many videos comparing these two. Would have loved to see some drag races and roll-on races, although I’ve myself been comparing the Scout & the Speedmaster - I’m short and the T120’s too high for me, I think - especially with a pillion. I’m a big fan of the Scout - fantastic power delivery and a brilliant belt drive. But then, I prefer mid controls to cruiser styled forward controls (foot controls, that is) - and the Speedmaster wins here because you can get a factory mid control set up from Triumph but have to rely on after-market kits for the Indian 😢 I ride a Yamaha XJR1300, but am moving to the US where Yamaha never released that model …so I’ll have to make a switch soon - greetings from Oz 🇦🇺
Indian Scout $12,900. Triumph Speed Twin $12,700. Triumph T120 $11,000. Triumph T100 $10,500. Triumph Street Twin $9,500. Royal Enfield INT 650 $5,800. I'm old now and no longer need to go fast. The RE Interceptor's 47 horsepower is enough for me. If I win the lottery, I'll pick up a T120 with chrome peashooters. But until then, the INT 650 is my bike.
Price does matter. And 6 to 7 grand do make a big difference. Never seen an RE, up close. But kinda wonder if you get what you pay for. Wait a year or so, and we'll be able to pick up a beautifully taken care of used 120 or anything else, for less than the 55 hundred for new RE. Bikes, like cars, lose value right off the lot. A few years you can get most bikes for half the new price.
I just bought a new Bonneville T120, I did not like the Indian scout because it sat so low, and it did not have much rear suspension travel for two up riding, also Indian over prices there accessories terribly.
Best video of yours to date that I have seen 😉... Terminology was spot on and pretty damn good comparison/review!! Touring Rules: 1. Ergonomics 2. Wind Protection 3. Luggage Capabilities Stay vigilant Sister...👊
Finished my yard work and watching this is such a great reward! My pick is the Indian Scout! Every bike I have owned has always had forward controls. That is why I chose the Scout. Having that is comfort to me. Laid back and cruising is how I love to ride. When I get cleared to ride again, my next bike is going to be the Scout Sixty, metallic ruby red! My old (totaled) Sportster was a fine ride, but for the money I don't think you can go wrong with the Scout! The Scout, Bonnie, or Sporty, bring their own thing to the game, but it just comes down to how you like to play! Great video, One Down Gene Up!
Who all noticed the guy in the red truck at 10:52 trying to check out the bike and pulled forward after multiple glances?! 😂 Great review! I’m currently vetting out which bike to get after my Rebel 500. Love the classic T120 Bonnie, but have very much enjoyed the cruiser style. What’s gotten me torn is most of the people I ride with are on ADVs and Sport Bikes and much more confident riders than I am so I usually get left in the dust during right turns and my lower back aches after a while riding around. I’m 5’2” and have to lean forward on my tank to give my arms slack and my knees don’t even touch the tank😅 looking for a bike I can really be one with that isn’t too hard to flick in the mountains
I did not notice that guy! Haha. I’ll have to go back and re watch that part 😂 How exciting that you’re on your way to a new bike, Alysia! Ride your own ride and do what you think is best! Let me know what you end up getting if you think of it ☺️
Recently, I sat on the T100 and cried when I realized that I was too short. I’m 5’1” and was on my tippy toes. So know that the 120 is too tall. Even the Street Twin was a tad too tall but the Speedmaster was just right. Sounds like Goldilocks 🤦🏼♀️ As a result, I would go with the Indian Scout due to the low seat height. Final answer: Indian Scout 😢🤣
@@OneDownGeneUp It’s the front runner for me as I’m sure you picked up that I’m shopping for a bike since relocating to Florida and selling my Yamaha 650 to upgrade.

I do like my feet flat on the ground and yes also like the self cancelling turn signals and forward controls. Yep agree I would rather the Scout than the Sportster for the money. Looks like a beautiful day for riding there 🏍️👍
Wait, there was no wheelie comparison test? How can I buy a bike without knowing it's ability to rip dank nooners!?!😂😄
*see photo of Papa Yams for further information*
The scout has no problem turning to Jesus with the right amount of persuasion 🙃
The t120 has to be one of the best looking bikes ever made, absolute classic styling.

What about the low speed on off throttle with the Bonneville? Do you have it..does it bother you?
I find that the on/off throttle and low speeds on the Bonnie are very easy. Not too jerky and it’s easy to maneuver.
I have a 2016 Indian Scout and it's a great bike. I've had the opportunity to take my Scout across the United States for a trip total of 6,500 miles. Thanks for checking it out, Lee!
Scouts feels super light with a modern engine. Sporty's feel top heavy and vibrate if a person isn't into that.
Whatever you like best is best for you. Untill I got self cancelling turn signals I just didn't bother to use them.
