  • Today’s video looks at rehab exercises for quadratus lumborum or QL muscle pain. The quadratus lumborum muscle is a low back muscle that runs from the iliac crest (top side of pelvis) to the 12th rib and the transverse processes (lateral projections) of the lumbar vertebrae.
    The quadratus lumborum acts to move the spinal column through extension and ipsilateral (same side) sidebend and is considered a major postural muscle as it also acts to stabilize the low back and pelvis in the frontal plane of motion.Discomfort in the quadratus lumborum region is associated with many cases of low back pain and is typically reproduced with palpation of the muscle between the 12th rib and pelvic crest.

    Love the way you compartmentalize the approach to rehab the QL - first relax it using the foam roller/ followed by gentle stretches under self body weight/ concluded by combined strengthening and stretching with dumbbells!!! Very impressive - thank you/ I'll be trying out your approach! Plus I'll check into your book as well! Thank you🌺

    Man a bed frame fell on my lower back and has stopped my life. Its been 2 years and im still dealing with these low back pain and side pain. Sleep is killer. I hope this help . God bless

      Ask your doc for ambien, it's been a game changer for me. Shoulder pain (and sometimes low back strain) kept me from falling/staying asleep for years.

    Can I do this exercises after a back operation. L5-S1 disk fusion. My QL's get really sore.

    I pulled a muscle on my right side months ago. I thought it was my oblique, but it's my QL that I have problems with. It affects my hip as well. Should I start with lower lb weights when strengthening to build the muscle to avoid another injury?

    After one year of seaching, i found this vedio related my pain. Same like this i have pain right side of back while sitting poor posture. It does not rediates down my legs, but front of abdomen rediates.
    I have MRI report and x-ray report but all are normal.And i have vedio x-ray also normal.
    No one doctors could not understanding my pain. Doctors just says sciatica. Can you say about it what type of pain i have?

    What is the muscle just medial to the QL that runs parallel to the pelvis. That is where my pain is and it comes on when I have to bend over to lift something, break down gear, etc. Just on the right side.
