- This video was created by generating still images in AI to simulate oil paintings based on specific shots chosen by the director (me) that were then animated using a variety of other AI tools to attempt to create a narrative that matched the lyrics of the song.
The goal was to create a video that would honor Grace VanderWaal's deeply moving song about battling depression without attempting to simulate Grace VanderWaal's actual image over time, but to use slightly abstracted interpretations of her image. In other words this video isn't a deepfake, or an attempt to simulate reality, but rather to create a complementary piece art to enhance Ms. VanderWaal's song.
It should be noted that this song was written and recorded in 2016-207 when Ms. VanderWaal was either 12 or 13 years old for her debut LP through Columbia Records.
She has since composed hundreds of songs, the vast majority of which have never been released due to various artistic decisions on her part or the complex machinations of the music industry via her label's control.
I highly recommend exploring her song catalog, especially her unreleased material that can be discovered mostly through fan channel like this one and Vandals HQ.

Evocative. Great job. As an old man of 56, technology which I once had a grasp on is now evolving so quickly that I simply cannot keep up and find it bewildering. BTW, I would have loved for the visuals to have a fade to complete black at 3:35 with a noticeably slow fade back in at 3:40. You hint at this with 3:36 to 3:38, but I, personally, like the idea of a couple seconds more to intentionally break the flow.
This is beautiful, and it reminds me that she sang this amazing song live a total of 5 times, and none since. I'm still salty about that, lol.
